I was originally going to post this when the redesign was announced, but my Internet was down at the time.
..........
Anyway, is it ruined? Miiverse was once a place where you can chat about stuff or about anything. Everything seems fine and dandy till one day, a moderator called Erika (Or Miiverse users call her, the Hitler of Miiverse) decided to post about the redesign. The redesign purpose was to prevent people from talking about off topic stuff in a community. However.........
It caused most users to leave and now if one NNID gets banned, all NNID tied to that console get banned. Considering that Miiverse now turned into something like Neogaf, let ask you. Is Miiverse ruined?

Toriel left for a while, so Freaky Fred took over her place!

The update probably made it better, for the most part, in my opinion. I've never reached the 30 post limit (And thanks to the limit, we don't have to wait two minutes between posts anymore!), having drawings and play journal entries separated is nice, the only thing I don't get is why discussions exist, or why you can only have one open at a time. It would be one thing to only be able to have one open per community, but only one in all of Miiverse is a little too strict.
That said, Miiverse was already horrible before the update (The userbase, not the platform itself), so there really wasn't any room for more damage. Thankfully there are a few communities that are pretty good to look through, usually the smaller ones for games with great fans!
I didn't use miiverse all that much anyway, but I certainly use it far less now since the last couple of updates.
Shutting down the Youtube community was rather an unnecessary move too.
It was already ruined when it came to the 3DS. All the kids made it worse by chatting personal stuff and little 10 year old's looking for bfs and gfs. Blame the kids for the strict stuff on Miiverse. The update looks fine, but I only use it for screenshots.
I say the update made miiverse better but the people who use it the wrong way (most times knowingly) is the one who ruins it. For example even if I use the hint tag and post useful advice on a game, it will get buried in random talk, questions, and comments that's using the same hint tag. Even when I search tags to see if anybody have questions that need to be answered, they are sometimes statements or questions that been answered by people who is not even a valid owner (box with checkmark) or don't even address the question with a related answer.
Also I notice the people who have issues with the 30 post limit normally doesn't post stuff worth reading like spams, whining, chicken scratch, etc. If those people reached the point where they get a console ban, you know they're Trouble. Would be similar to someone getting a IP ban from posting here, which I doubt are humble.

Yeah, Miiverse was ruined long before the update. The console-wide ban thing should have been there in the beginning. As Shy_Guy said, it was way better before they added the 3DS to the mix.
i stopped using it before the update because none of my mates had a Wii U (some have them now though after they played mine ^_^) so i have no idea what it's like now

Honesty this miivserse was awesome at the start when it was just Wii U users not saying it was perfect just less crowded and better discussion.

I agree, but I also hate the redesign. I used to check in to Miiverse often, now I don't bother. All I wanted was a filter to get past all the drawings.
Meh. I don't really care for Miiverse. I've only posted 3 things this year, and 2 of them were drawings from Art Academy(not for contests). Even if YouTube stuff was more relevant, outside of Mario Kart, I still wouldn't really care. I don't even care about it on Xbox One.

I've been using less and less since all of those terrible updates that started around March. After the redesign, I didn't use it anymore except to check for news from the Verified guys. Still the same way today.
