Topic: Is Mario Golf: World Tour coming to the Wii-U instead?

Well before this past E3, it was announced the game would be out in Q2 or Q3 2013 on the 3DS, but then it was delayed, and now it has seemingly disappeared with no more mention of it. The game was first revealed last February, and from the screenshots and video, it looked like it was nearly complete at the time. The developer Camelot has years of experience making Mario Golf and Hot Shots Golf games, so they have it down to a science and shouldn't be having any development issues either.

Due to those facts, I have a feeling the 3DS release has been scrapped, and instead the game is silently being reworked to come out on the Wii-U instead. The 3DS has a ton of games already, with more coming soon, while the Wii-U could be lacking big first party games in 2014. I think this game would be perfect on the Wii-U as the system is lacking sports games, and until Nintendo releases Mario Kart 8, there aren't any first party Nintendo games that have online competitive multiplayer either. The big selling point for this game was the "World Tour" online aspect, and thats something that the Wii-U really needs at this time.

Plus, from what images and video we have seen, the game looks like it is much more suited to be played on a large screen and not on a handheld.

Anyone else here getting this vibe or am I all alone? This is one of my most anticipated games, and I would much rather have it on my Wii-U instead!

I'd be pretty surprised.
If they did decide to move towards making a Wii U game, I'd expect a release on both systems.
But until I hear elsewise, I still expect this to just be a 3DS release whenever it's done and ready.

I was wondering if they were going to show this game, too. I thought it looked kind of decent when I saw it in the direct however many months ago. Strange for me because I'm never really interested in Golf games. Now I didn't suspect they'd be changing it over to the Wii U until you mentioned it, but it does seem like it could be possible. I wouldn't be against the idea. In fact, I'd probably be more willing to buy it for Wii U than I would for 3DS.

I still wondered what happened to this game. When it was announced, they assured us it would release in time for summer. But then out of nowhere, BAM! Delayed aaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the way to sometime next year!

With the motion controls working quite well for the Wii Sports golf, I was SHOCKED Nintendo didn't take advantage of it and create a new Mario Golf. We haven't had a console Mario Golf game since Toadstool Tour on the Gamecube, which was an amazing game. NO CLUE what they are/were thinking....they shoot themselves in the foot over and over with wasting potential money making games and ideas.

And then they made the wii-motion plus, and STILL didn't make a new mario golf.

Makes sense. Love the series and I'd be thrilled if it made the jump. Mario Golf is the kind of game you want to play local multi and that's just so much more feasible on the TV.

If they wait awhile and infuse some inspiration from 3D World, they could come up with some special courses and ideas. The dissappearance is curious though...

I posted something similar about this in a thread a few weeks back. I'm thinking that although far along in development it was pulled for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it's better off filling a spot in the schedule next year. 3DS is going along nicely at the moment, so best off pushing it out till there is a spot next year. Secondly, I think we will see a Wii U Mario golf cross over. It would be fantastic on the Wii U, and the ability for some cross play might help pursuade 3DS owners to buy a Wii U. Maybe not that game on its own, but I think we'll see a few next year. With EA not bringing Toger woods over any time soon/never, the market is ripe for a Mario Golf title with no competition. I don't think they will ditch the 3ds version and upgrade it. I think they'll enhance it with some cross play and create a Wii U version.

I think they're just aware that I can't afford it right now and are waiting till I have more funds at my disposal before releasing it.
How considerate.

Y'know, I've never been too thrilled about Mario Golf World Tour, it always felt "meh" to me, but the possibilities of having it on Wii U actually makes me want it! Although it would probably compete with Wii Sports Club Golf. Anyway, if it's anything like Mario Party, it will fall off the radar until one month before release, then bam, trailers, marketing and a 2 month European delay.

I doubt it. Seems like it'd be a lot more effort than it's worth to retool it.

But the last time we saw the game was nearly a year ago, and even then it looked like it might be nearly finished. I think something odd is going on with it, as we should have been hearing more news about it but instead it's treated like it doesn't even exist.

Tbh I think it only got delayed for quality reasons and to fill up 2014.

I'm not sure if Mario Golf will end up on the Wii U, but I'm guessing it will at some point. Either way, the Wii U needs a good golf game whether it's the Mario crew or not. The system sets up very well for a golf game, and I know I'd be all over it. The Tiger Woods games did very well on the Wii, so there is definitely an audience for golf games on Nintendo systems. I doubt EA Sports will do a golf game for the Wii U anytime soon, but someone should take advantage of the system and make a great one. I'd prefer more of a golf sim, but I'll take any kind of golf game at this point!
