Topic: Is it wierd that I like kids games?

Don't know or care about defining what constitutes "kids" games. All I can say is that if you enjoy it, play it. I myself have gone more casual in the recent years, and all the games I play the most are short affairs via the e-shop. My "gamer" street cred is probably gone, but I enjoy my game time nonetheless.

Gotta catch them... eh, nevermind.

Yeah the rating is there for a reason. Mario games aren't rated EC. (early childhood, I believe)

Well if you like playing games that come from Nintendo then according to the internet for some reason you're a kid.And if you want to be an adult play on the playstation 4,cause that's were all the mature people are right guys?

The rating is a waste of time. (It is used as an excuse by people who don't want to have to think for themselves or make a decision themselves about whether something is suitable or not).

The games I prefer playing are non-realistic cartoony games, like Mario and Sonic. I can branch out a bit into games like the Wonderful 101 and Zelda, and something over the top and arcadey like Bayonetta, but I can't get into complex, gritty realistic games. They just don't appeal to me, and the drab colors/complex learning curve mean I can never get into them. Is this wierd for a 19 year old guy? Am I just too simple-minded to enjoy complex games, or does it take the same amount of gaming knowledge/skill to master a game with simple and or forgiving mechanics?

I'll say this. I play all types of games on all systems, and I can testify that there are great games that fall into the category of realistic and gritty. With that being said, it's one of those situations where you learn to play one and you've learned to play them all. You might be surprised to hear this, but most of those realistic western AAA games are less challenging than the games you play. They just LOOK more intimidating to play, but as far as substance is concerned, most of them are rather simple. To me, the good one are the ones that require skill. And just like any other type of game, there's good ones and bad ones, you just have to know how to separate the two.

To answer your question, no, there's nothing weird about playing Nintendo games. The world wants you to THINK it's weird, that it's perfectly normal to play realistic games and not Nintendo, but it's weird to play Nintendo and not realistic games. But that's a lie, and we all know it. I do think you should consider branching out, because there are great games you're missing and they are a lot more simple to play than you probably think. Same thing I tell people who only play realistic games- try branching out to Nintendo because that's where the real hard-core challenges dwell. But that's a personal choice, and if you decide to only play Nintendo exclusives for the rest of your life, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I saw the age demographics for Wii U gamers, and I believe less than 3% were female and a similar percentage for gamers under the age of 12. So basically the vast majority of Wii U gamers are between the ages of 18 to 34. Remember that the next time some kid tells you you're weird for not conforming to the world's view. You're not weird, you've just outgrown the need to conform. Happens to everybody at some point in time. And again, that's not to say that you aren't missing out on some great games, because you are, and most of them are less complicated and easier to learn than the games you're already playing, but there's nothing wrong with only playing Nintendo.

And if someone tells you you're not a real gamer, you tell them they are right. You're just a guy that happens to enjoy playing video games.

In other words, ratings are a useful tool in determining whether or not the product is appropriate for the user. Because instead of doing an hour of internet research every time they buy a game, most people would prefer to just glance at the back of the box to see what it's rated and why.

I don't see why it should bother you to be honest, I'm 18, I watch Disney films and play Nintendo games. I don't see myself as being any less mature.

Spoiler Alert: Cartoony games like Mario and Sonic are made for EVERYONE to enjoy no matter what age. Just because they're appropriate for kids doesn't mean they're made only for kids!

Just because a game is seen as more realistic and 'mature' doesn't necessarily mean it's more complex. A chimp could make its way through Gears of War quite easily, I reckon. On the flip side, something regarded as considerably more 'child-like' such as Mario, can contain levels so difficult it would test even the most hardcore of gamers.

I guess that with time you begin to appreciate fun and not care about the "cool" factor that media/society attributes to the game. I remember playing Carmageddon, Mortal Kombat and a bunch of shooters with friends from the school when I got my first computer, but so far my recent buys are: Mario Kart 7, Paper Mario SS and Mario & Luigi DT.
I still like mature titles, but I prefer games that are fun and most Nintendo releases give me that. I played a bit of GTAV, but after 2 hours I just couldn't do it anymore. Call of Duty also had the same effect on me - I played one level through and I didn't feel like I'm doing anything fun. There is pretty much no surprise factor for me in these games anymore. Whenever I saw a new kind of enemy or advanced to the next level, it all felt like it was there just so that things didn't repeat themselves. Even stupid Wiggler's parts (people who played Sticer Star will know what I'm talking about) made me laugh and realise that this absurd stuff gives me more fun than getting a new gun and blowing up a helicopter in CoD.

@Ralizah Agreed. I also really want a Kameo sequel because I think it's cool and nostalgia too, but it has some problems that could be fixed with a sequel.
If you're talking about the minigames on Viva Piñata, I didn't play them either. If they're another set of exclusive games, I haven't heard of them, though.
