I use my Wii U for lots of stuff, and I generally end up using it every day.
The browser is good for when I'm running actual work or art related applications on my computer and want to watch videos and stuff to occupy my ADD brain lol.
Mostly I play retail games, check in on Mii Verse, mess around with virtual console games while watching TV, do a quick check of the e-shop for sales and new vids...
It's a really nice system to compliment a PC or entertainment center. I think Nintendo has released some of their best games ever in this past year or two. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is quickly becoming my all time favorite platformer, I keep going back to it.
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
Don't see it as a problem. I don't have a ton of money, so I can't afford anything more expensive than VC/DL titles right now.
Also, my friends that have PS4s and Xbones are watching more Netflix on them than playing games right about now.
Can't blame your friends. On PS4 at least, it looks like it's going to stay that way until 2016, and that's coming from a big PS guy. I bought the PS4 knowing it would be a slow burn like every new console but this first year outside of inFamous (which was shorter than I expected) is just not good. There's some games on my to-buy list but it is very up in the air what the quality of some of these will be. Only one I'm fairly confident in saying it will be good is Batman: Arkham Knight and, of course, it's not an exclusive. At least on Xbox One it's safe to assume Sunset Overdrive and Quantum Break will be good. I just bought a Wii U though because frankly it has the best lineup for the rest of 2014. I'm also looking forward to seeing what the GBA VC lineup is like going forward. One of my favorite systems ever.
I mostly play games on mine. Retail generally, but have put some time into Advance Wars. I am reasonably comfortable with the released games and am hoping for a few more suprises along with the known upcoming releases.
Well, if 2014 winds up like I originally thought it would, this is going to be an absolutely amazing year for Nintendo, but seeing Smash take up a slot in the Winter, I think Zelda U will be next year, instead. Even so, maybe E3 will be super hype, and the titles filling in the gaps will keep me occupied, with the help of Smash 3DS.
I've spent about the same amount of time using the internet browser, as I have played games.
I have 13 retail games, a handful of download games, and a ton of VC games. I already beat most of them, so I'm basically waiting for MK. Also, I have the ambassador GBA games, ans stuff on my 3DS, as well, so I don't really feel like buying anything, for a while(especially since I'm kinda broke from buying an Xbox One).

Gamer83 - I don't think it's safe to say Quantum outbreak will be good. I've been very disappointed in most of the recent games that extol the virtues of graphics and new graphics technology. The demos look great, provided the final game will deliver that level of detail.
Sunset Overdrive seems to have some style and perhaps some innovative gameplay to go with the nice graphics and fast action. I have higher hopes for that one.

I'm a fan of Remedy's games so for me anyway, I think Quantum Break is going to be good, but I understand their games are love or hate. There's also no release date attached to either that or Sunset Overdrive so neither PS4 or Xbox One are looking too hot for the rest of this year aside from Arkham Knight.
Mainly because I 1) don't have the games I want yet. And 2) Some of the games I own haven't grabbed me.
Been playing Ghosts quite a bit recently though. I thought to myself "maybe I just don't like games any more". But then got Sleeping Dogs on PC and didn't put it down. I just need games that grab me.
I'd rather use my PC than use the Wii U's inferior browser.
But yeah, I agree on what it seems like you're trying to say. Even after two years, the Wii U doesn't have any eye-catching games. There's your regular Mario and Zelda, but those games won't really keep me coming back for long. Which leads the Wii U to be reduced to "that-console-I-use-for-Netflix-sometimes", or in your case, browser.
@JoeBruko
It depends on what you're using the browser for, All of the home consoles(Wii U, Xbox One, PS4) don't support flash, because they're trying to get people to upgrade the internet interface with HTML5.

I don't have a laptop or PC or tablet (except for my phone) so I use the Wii U browser quite a lot! It's pretty slick and fast and does what I need it to do.
I have one retail download game, TLOZ TWW HD. After I had beaten that game, I bought a ton of Wii U exclusive eShop games. I played them for a day then forgot about them. Checking the activity log, the only things I do on my Wii U is play VC games I got from Club Nintendo and use the browser. Is anyone else feeling the same way?

What retail games are you waiting for exactly?
Even if there were games I really wanted (which there are), it's not like the games are free. I got no money, and even if I did, they dont sell Wii U games here.
