I'm having networking issues with my Wii U. I'm trying to work out if anybody else is having the same issues. So far I can find nothing to indicate anybody else is. Basically my Wii U all of a sudden just stops loading images, as well as other elements of web pages. It is causing MiiVerse not to load correctly mainly. I would have thought it was just Nintendo's servers but it is also not loading correctly when using the web browser. It happens on any site I try. I've been trying to work out whether my issue is a compatibility problem between the Wii U and my Wireless Modem. I've tried various things to get it to work but nothing has made a difference. Restarting the modem does seem to fix it for awhile but then the issue comes back again. I have noticed the Wii U is going through the whole DHCP process each time I change the Application in use (for example go from Wii U Menu to MiiVerse. I thought this behaviour was strange myself. I changed the Wii U over to a static address but the issue still persisted. I can't try another modem as I need to use that modem as my phone system runs through it.
I'm not having any issues with the other wired/ wireless devices in the house, some of them include the original Wii, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Some of things I have tried are:
Changing IP Range to 192.168.1.0/24 (by default its 10.1.1.0/24)
Using Static IP
Changing Wireless channel (currently on 13)
Changing wireless bandwidth to 20MHz only (by default is 20/40MHz, but don't think the Wii U is using 40MHz band anyway)

These images show what happens when it starts playing up.

I have those problems sometimes as well. I'm thinking its the Wii U.

Have you tried different WEP, WPA, WPA2 TKIP settings as I have had some people change to these connection types to get it functioning properly... give it a whirl mate

I haven't tried that yet, Its on AES currently but I'll try TKIP. I'm going to wait until it does it again since I've restarted the modem since the last time. I'll try that first when it plays up, but I have my old Modem hooked up running as a switch/wireless ap, I was going to switch the Wii U over to that. Normally the problem won't go away for me until I restart the modem, It depends on where the problem is though, I'm betting switching the AP won't fix the problem though. But if its the Wii U doing it anyway then theres probably nothing I can do until Nintendo fix the problem in a future firmware update.

if you are running two wifi networks that could be a reason for your problems.

To be honest, I don't think the Wii U internet browser is that great. I know one website that I visit regularly that the Wii U regularly fails to display. That wouldn't explain your Miiverse issues though.

I've only just setup the second one today, and its on channel 6, my main wifi is channel 13 so its not overlapping. The Wii U hasn't been connected to the second network yet anyway.

In reply to corinishlee, its not just MiiVerse and the Web browser anyway. Its really the whole internet side of the Wii U, it brings up error messages when its playing up on the eshop, and the online side of NintendoLand doesn't work either. Youtube just stops working as well, it streams the HD videos fine when it working fine so I know its not a connection issue. The Modem is a distance from the Wii U, probably be getting near 10m perhaps. I get around 7MBps with a laptop at that distance, which is more than fast enough for the likes of the Wii U. The Wii U has 2/3 bars.
But as I said its only the Wii U I'm having issues with in the house. The PS3 is wireless and I've never had any issues with it like the Wii U. The 360 is wired but its been fine since my sisters had it as well.

Started doing it again, I've switched it over to TKIP on original modem and so far so good. I should have tried this first really.

Yeah sorry bro all you can do is try those different settings and if that doesn't work it's best to contact Ninty (according to their online tech support) as they might have had plenty of calls regarding all kinds of internet setups... I'm glad my WiiU has been working like a dream with no freezing or internet/Miiverse issues. I use it instead of the lappy now so I can pause a game then checkout youtube or other crap and do stuff like this post here

Well that didn't work, was worth a try. I'll try connecting it to the other modem now, but I don't think its going to fix it as its still going through the main modem for the Internet.

Thats a log from my modem. Notice how each time I change apps on the Wii U it requests a new address. Its like its not accepting the lease time. Unfortunately I don't think thats the issue though as changing over to a static IP still caused the images not to load as well after a period of time.
.8 is the Wii U, .2 is the Wii. I can see the Wii exhibits the same behavior though. None of the other devices in my house ask for the address more than once, other than when the lease time has expired. I can sorter understand the Wii behaving like that as it didn't really have an operating system as such, but the Wii U does, perhaps that explains why the Wii U is slow at loading if it has to load everything each time something is opened.

Well for a start isolate all possible causes of problems. Have just the Wii U and your router and nothing else connected and see how well that works. Take the second AP out of the equation and if that solves the problem you've gone some ways to working out what your problem is.

My first guess when I heard two modem/routers with the second being used as an AP was "well he's probably got them both running as DHCP servers". The fact that the problem is with finding an IP makes it even more likely the problem I'd guess. Not sure why only the Wii U is having that problem or why it's still a problem when you set a static IP but it's worth checking anyway. It might also be something strange like having the two APs at the same signal strength and not knowing which one to connect to, bouncing between the two. The solution then would be to make sure your APs are further apart and/or the Wii U isn't the same distance from both.

.............. but hard to solve the problem in a forum setting, you need to get your hands dirty, isolate the possible cause of the problem and troubleshoot yourself a bit

I apologise if I haven't been that clear. Since I've had the Wii U which is since launch I have only had the one modem/wireless ap connected. The Wii U has been running over wireless to that device. Yesterday night I decided to plug up my old modem which I'm using as an wireless access point/ switch, the ADSL side of it isn't connected. The Linksys modem (the one i've just connected) is located in my sisters bedroom and has the 360 connected to port 2 with the Wii U running on Wireless to it. Port 1 is a connection back to my Orcon Modem (this is the one I've been having all the issues with on the Wii U). I have only just setup like this to test whether the Wii U plays up. That way I can isolate whether its a wireless connectivity issue.

DHCP was disabled on the Linksys before I connected it to the Orcon modem as I am aware of the issues that occur when 2 DHCP servers are running, especially on the same subnet.

I will ring Nintendo at some stage, as well as my ISP which provides and maintains the Orcon modem. I mainly just wanted to know if I wasn't alone with this issue, and what model / brand of gear people are using that are experiencing the issues I'm having.

Delete your cookies and save data in the Wii U internet browser. I was having the same issue, and doing this fixed it for me. You'll have to resave your bookmarks in the browser after doing this, so just a heads up.

Thought I'd post an update to my situation.
I've had the Wii U running on my Linksys WAG200G modem for around 4 days now and haven't had any issues.
Decided to change the Wii U back to the Orcon Modem and sure enough the problems started again.
So I'm thinking its some sort of compatibility issue, which hopefully either Nintendo or Belkin (thats who makes the Orcon modem) can fix. I would never buy a belkin router/modem myself normally since I know lots of people have various issues with them but don't have much choice when the ISP provides the device.

I've tried clearing the cookies / wiping the internet channel save data now, If that doesn't fix it I'll revert back to the other AP.

I notice after about 2 weeks after clearing memory is when it starts to slow down again. I recommend clearing all data and cookies every 2 weeks. When you first go back to pages that used cookies you cleared, it will be worse than before you deleted data, BUT, once you visit a page twice, it will reregister the data and run better again.
My internet runs at optimum settings, and it still has this problem. Clearing data and resaving bookmarks will solve it for you from my experience. HTML 5 probably has alot to do with it, since alot of webpages are designed to use more memory or plugins to run.

Hey ETLN, I really hope you read this post...because I'm having the EXACT same issues. Internet images stop loading after maybe a day (even after power cycling, restarting, changing wifi channels). Not just that, but MiiVerse and the eShop show errors saying something along the lines of 'cannot load..' or 'unexpected software error' all because of the wifi. Now, my behemoth of a PC connects just fine to the router (which is on channel 13) and I play online games perfectly. Changing channels doesn't help (in the long run) so if you've actually found a solution, I'd greatly appreciate it! I'm using a Netcomm Wireless router fyi.

EDIT: I'm worried because I want to be able to play Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate online and I'm afraid that this is going to be an issue . Also, my Wii U and PC are in the same room, so if my crappy wifi card on my PC can handle it, my Wii U should be just fine.

Cheers

I've been meaning to update this post. I've actually fixed my problem, from what I can tell my modem is playing up because its too far away. Its around 15 metres from the Wii U, in reality it should really work since they are designed to work up to 100m but I've found since I got the Orcon modem its had pretty terrible wireless range. The Linksys is only around 5 metres from the Wii U, and that seems to have fixed it. Its also fixed streaming issues to my TV and Blu-Ray player. Only downside I have now is the Linksys is Wireless G not N like the Orcon.

I moved my Wii U into the second lounge in this place which is only 2 - 3 metres in the cabinet when it was running on the Orcon and that fixed it. I'm thinking the Wii U must have a poor antenna in it, I can get 7MBps from a laptop in the main lounge, so I know the modem is capable of good speeds at 15m. Maybe its a firmware fault though, if so I'm hoping Nintendo can fix it if thats a case. I haven't tried it since the latest update a few days ago.

I don't think it's that complicated honestly. I probably have slower internet and don't mess with settings at all and it works completely fine. My Wii U is about 3 feet away from my router and get 7mb/s about. I still have the question marks show up about every 2 weeks, but everything goes back to normal when I reset the data. Did you guys even try that?
It's like cleaning your computer, except there's no files to search for and recognize.
Same thing with slow load times. Delete the data and start fresh again. Deleting data counts as history, cache, and bookmarks. You can still keep your cookies for sites you go to often.

EDIT: BTW, my Wii U used to connect to my router through 35 ft. of open space, and maybe 15 ft. through walls.

SCAR392, the issue is NOT solely the Internet browser...that is the least of my worries. The real issue is opening apps that require Internet (Miiverse, eShop, etc...) and my problem is hampering their usage. I sometimes cannot even open up the app regardless of a fully functioning Internet browser . As I said, I'm FREAKING out because if I cannot play Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate online, I might as well just end it all....and buy a range extender lol.

ETLN, thnx for the post and I'm glad you fixed your problem. I'm frustrated in Nintendo's cost-cutting crap with the WiFi card in the Wii U. Even when I get a stable connection, I only get like 1.35 Mbps download speed...as compared to my PC (14.5 Mbps) <--- yes, I live in Australia...Internet infrastructure is poor.

Cheers
