So i recently purchased my first 3DSXL its been about a month me and my GF both use it. I also own a PS4 and was thinking about either buying an X1 or a Nintendo Wii u. Since X1 and PS4 will have most of the same games i am leaning a bit more towards Wii u.

Im 22 im not sure how many other older folks enjoy nintendo i look at game screenshots and it brings me back to the old days in a good way .. even the name "nintendo" haha love it. I never owned the wii so i would want to catch up on good games i have missed could you list any? i seen Xenoblade don't know much about it but it looked interesting i wonder if it has any online mode.

& does nintendo have any type of achievement system? or something that shows games you've completed?

wait a second ! i control robots in Xenoblade?!? kinda like Zoids? if so i am 10x more interested .. been looking for a game like that for a while. & yes never owned a wii so makes the gaming library even bigger for me. The no achievement system really is a bummer.. no signs of it ever being implemented?

Also few questions
1. I remember seeing a classic controller on the wii .. can i get a classic controller for wii u?
2. Was never a fan of the wii u remote and wii u nunchuck what is your opinion on those? (im not looking to do much physical movement gaming)
3. I seen two controllers aside from the gamepad available for wii u http://www.gamestop.com/wii-u/accessories/wii-u-pro-controlle... and this one http://www.gamestop.com/wii-u/accessories/wii-u-pro-commander... anyone here own any of em?

thanks !

No, you will be able to in the sequel (That's what's in the video).

1. There's the Pro controller, which is pretty similar. You can use the original classic controller though for some games.

2. Depends on game, really. Sometimes really cool, sometimes really... not.

3. Not me, but I do recommend sticking to 1st party controllers for the most part.

My wife and I play our Wii U together every chance we get. There is really no better system to play with a significant other. In the rare instance she'd rather watch TV, we just snuggle up next to each other while I tear it up in something like Tekken TT2 or Most Wanted.

Wind Waker HD, Pikmin 3, and Super Mario 3D World will be milestone games in your relationship if you are together for the long haul. She will never forget spending days off waking up to play those two games in her underwear, next to you with a blanket on the couch. Trust me.

After Glow is a good brand for controllers. I've never had a problem with that brand and its also cheaper. Sturdy and built well. An After Glow Wii U Pro controller goes for 39.99. Its about a 10 dollar savings. May not seem like much but when your looking for a bit more money for a video game 10 dollars helps a bit lol. Plus you get a controller that has little LEDs.

So far it's definitely looking to be my favourite, although it's hard to say since it's just the beginning of the cycle. But I haven't been as excited for a Mario kart since Double Dash, I mean, look at that mario kart 8, so awesome. Super smash bros, a no brainer, rayman legends is awesome (best version). Pikmin 3 is also great, so yeah, it's really looking to be a sort of a 'gamecube', which in my book is a great thing.

I haven't played monster hunter for a while now, but I will get back to it.

@Nez Yeah, less people then before but still plenty to start from the bottom and work your way up in online. MH is very much a play with your buddies kind of game then your significant other.

I am primarily a PC gamer so when it came to getting a console it's always Nintendo for the exclusives. Many other people have mentioned is it's such a great console to play with friends (especially when having a few drinks) and great to play with your significant other. The only downside I had was initially was lack of proper controllers, I only had one Wii Motion Plus controller which preventing playing some of the Wii Sports Club titles, I suggest buying them directly from Nintendo as they have refurbished ones on sale for $20 a pop + a Nunchuck so your good to go.

My wife and I play lots of MH3 together. Me on the Wii U, her on her 3DS XL. It's a blast, but the initial learning curve is a bit of a grind, so not all gals will have the patience or tolerance. It's worth trying if she liked Diablo 3, except it is a game about cruelly hunting monsters... So make sure she's OK with the brutality.

Otherwise, the Wii U pro controller is ace. You will want one of those (watch Amazon and Best Buy.com or price match at Target--you should be able to find one around $35). Classic controllers are also worthwhile. Keep in mind they require a Wiimote as they have no batteries (compared to the Pros 70+ hour charge). CCs are good, cheap controllers that work with most Wii U games as well as many Wii games. Another bonus is that it gives you a cheaper controller to for your friends to play with (or gal because we all know women are like kryptonite to analog sticks).

As for the Wiimote+Nunchuk, it's a great alternative option. For some games, it's dispensable. For others, a typical controller serves better. It's worth attempting to become comfortable with because it offers unrivaled precision and accuracy in aiming. And some games have really nailed the motion controls, so I wouldn't completely dismiss them. It's also really comfortable and great for chilling back--just rest your arms on your legs, apart from each other (I always chuckle when I see people holding the Wiimote + Nunchuk elevated in front of them, sometimes even with their hands squished together like a traditional controller).

Besides, without it you can't play Sin & Punishment: Star Successor, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, House of the Dead: Overkill, RE4: Wii Edition, Darkside Chronicles, Red Steel 2, LOZ: Skyward Sword, Dead Space Extraction, Mario Galaxy 1/2, Excite Truck, World of Goo, or many of the numerous Wii classics. Learn to like the Wiimote and it will be worth the effort.

Well if your gf likes your 3ds games then get a Wii U, PS4 and X1 are going to be horrid for local play, i can't count the good times i've had playing local-multi on my Wii U. My PS4 is pretty much a Killzone machine until march when second son hits (love the infamous series). That said...

My actual advice though is to wait a while then make a choice once you have played through a bunch of games on your current system, then ask yourself "do i really need a new console?". You said you just got a PS4 and a 3DSXll in the last month, well the 3DS has a massive back catalog of great games and great ones on the horizon. The PS4 has some highly anticipated titles dropping in the next 6 months and the launch games are decent enough to own a few. If you pick up an x1 or Wii U are you really going to spend time with each console and dedicate sufficient time to each game? If the answer is yes then ask yourself which console will ring something new to what you already have.

I'd say get a Wii U. I'm 27 and grew up with a NES and SNES, never owned a wii either. My mom got me a Wii U for christmas along with Super Mario #d world. It's amazing!!! And it'll only get better with the sick list of games coming out in 2014 like Yarn Yoshi, Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Tropical freeze, Hyrule Warriors, ect. I grew up playing Nintendo and damn it feels good to be back with a new Nintendo console.

I have a few questions

Do i need a classic controller to play the classic games like Contra and Mega Man X?
meaning i can just use the gamepad for everything else when im playing single player? Im going to need that Classic Controller for all Wii games i imagine
