i have huge input lag on my TV, which is somewhat reduced in game mode and by turning all other options off, super smash is still unplay able. does wii U or super smash offer a way to compansate for this lag?

Your only option at this point would be to buy a better TV for gaming. Plasma would be one of the best (affordable?) kinds of HDTV for gaming, and are known for having very low input lag. People in general seem to dislike Plasma, but most of the "issues" marketers threw at them (higher energy consumption, screen burn-in, runs very hot) were vastly overblown in order to sell newer LED TVs.
OLED TVs are the bomb-diggity, and have basically all the benefits of Plasma and LCD with next to none of the drawbacks. The picture quality is phenomenal, and the blacks are extremely deep. Unfortunately, as of this post, you'll need to give up your arm and a leg to pay for one.

But for sticking with LED/LCD, you want a TV with a high refresh rate (>60Hz) that has the ability to disable any "Smoothing/TruMotion" setting.

Plasma's are not good for the Wii U I have one that is 30ms over HDMI that is still not good enough for the Wii U due to adding the extra 16ms from the Gamepad (3 frames). It can be used over component which has 16ms but that has its own issues.

The only ones I would be happy with (2 frames latency max) are some Sony ones / Digital Signage Monitors or Monitors.

Sucks my PC is totally fine on my Plasma ironically.

30fps on Plasma's is also terrible because of the frame doubling.

The same thing happens when I play Wii Fit U.

Most people have this issue. I tried everything to reduce it but there is still a lag/delay. I eventually just learned to embrace it and work with it.

I remember changing a setting on my LCD to fix lag, but I forgot what it was...

I am by no means an expert and couldn't give you figures to back it up but I have used WiiU on a whole variety of makes of tv and have found that Panasonic plasmas have always been the best for input lag reduction and still offer great quality images even on older models. There also some.of the most reliable TVs on the market so buying one is a good investment that will give you years of quality use.

Well because they did have a higher energy consumption, ran hot and some of the earlier ones in particular had burn-in issues. Their main advantage early on was price and contrast ratio. Input lag was more of a scaler issue than an issue with the screen-type which over time has improved. Which is why older HD panels of any type, including Plasmas, had pretty horrible input-lag. The same thing happened with contrast ratio and price over time to the point where Plasma didn't really have any big advantage over LCD at all.

Infact towards the end Plasma became so clearly the less attractive option that they stopped selling them. Looking at a few retailers now I can't see a single Plasma TV available. A quick google search and the first things that come up when I look for Plasmas are some articles dated early 2014 about the death of Plasma. You might be able to still find one but they've all been discontinued so I wouldn't take the gamble.
