Topic: Initial Purchase: Which Accessories?

Dear Friends

I have it on good authority that the Easter Bunny may bring my 5.5-year-old son a Wii U Mario and Luigi Deluxe set plus the new Mario Kart. I plan to play with my son. Which additional accessories will we need? For instance, will we need a couple of the regular controllers?

Thank you very much for helping us.

If you have a Wii, you can use its Wii Remotes and Nunchuck, classic controller pro. Or if you want, you can buy Wii U Pro controller.

Dear Azooooz

To play Super Mario and Mario Kart, what would be best? Two Wii U Pro controllers?

Thanks very much for responding to my query.

Hey Jaddie,

I believe it's up to you to try it out by yourself, but if you want my opinion, then you may use the Wii U gamepad and the Wii U Pro controller.

Mario Kart also works well with Wii Remotes where you can steer the Kart by turning the Wii Remote.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Jaddie, I suggest having at least one Pro controller lying around, but Wii-motes will be far more useful, in the long run. Most games will use Wiimotes, and a lot of the 3rd party titles will have use for the Pro controller. For NSMBU, I personally feel the Pro controller is redundant, but that's just me. For Mario Kart, this may not be the case, at all, though I feel I should warn you: Mario Kart 8 doesn't come out until the tail end of May, so the Easter Bunny may have to leave an IOU on that one... unless there's something I don't know about. If that's the case, then by no means should you tell me. This is all for the sake of you knowing, and nothing more.

Back to accessories, Wii Wheels are a fun thing to have, but do very little, beyond look like an actual steering wheel. Don't get sucked into that one.

Dear Friends

So the Easter Bunny should consider augmenting the Wii U Deluxe set with one Pro controller and two of the older style "Wii-motes"?

For Valentine's Day 2013 the little fellow received a 128GB iPad, which currently has about 650 games on it. He plays it a lot, but for the past couple of months we've enjoyed playing the grandparents' old Wii together because of the multiplayer aspect.

I wish my parents could of got me that stuff when i was five, but they couldn't even afford dinner most of the time. Now i'm 15 and have 3 jobs just so we can pay the bills. But, i suggest you focus less on the treats and more on family time together. If he doesn't already, get him a 2ds and maybe a wiiu for christmas when games increase

Dear willobee

We're broke after spoiling Max. This is his second iPad. he got his first one when the original iPad was introduced. He was about a year old. He broke his first one by dropping it on the driveway. It still works well but won't run iOS 7 and games that require it.

We're older parents. I was thirty-nine when Max was born. He's our only child.

As a father of a 7 and 6 year old, I would say they struggle with a wiimote ,let alone numchuk. Buy a pro control and let your little one have the gpad. Not only is everything easier to track gamepad, but it's easier to control.3dworld is easier to get them started on..Lego marvelsuper heroes too

Dear justlink

We enjoy a lot of family time. I'm a stay-at-home dad, Mama is a second grade teacher, wife's parents live five driveways away, my mother lives five miles away, Max still sleeps with us every night, I pick him up from pre-K every day, play games with him almost every day, and spend a lot of time with him. My wife and I have written about 500,000 words about our little buddy on our blog since he was born.

I'm so sorry you're working three jobs, but I hope they're very rewarding for you.

@jaddie
Well, i'm the youngest at my house, with one sister, so i want you to know something. I've always wanted a brother since i was 8, but i was said it never happened. A little brother for Max would probably be the best for a little kid. But i shouldn't be talking like that, i'm only 15

Here is a list of standart "Must Have" Accessories to be able to fully enjoy your Wii U.

-All of the accessories.

I'm not kidding. You basically need all the controllers to enjoy different games.

For example, you need Wii Mote + Nunchuck to fully enjoy Nintendo Land and Pikmin 3.

To play games like Mario and Donkey Kong, you definitely need a wii u pro controller if you plan on playing multiplayer. The Wii Mote works too, but the Pro Controller just functions way better and much more intuitive.

The acceesories you can skip are Balance Board (If you do not plan on getting Wii fit U), microphone and the Wii Mote attachments.

I got chocolate, like $10-20, and a dentist appointment, so there are variances.
