Topic: Indie Games, is it ruining the consoles rep?

I absolutely love my Wii U and I have many games for it, both by big developers and indie teams. I love all games and I believe it is great that the Wii U is getting so many indie games.
The Wii U has been slated quite a bit recently for many reasons such as the hardware not being on par with the other next gen consoles so the Wii U doesn't really have a good reputation anyway. Now that many indie games are on the Wii U is it giving it an even worse reputation? Are people starting to believe that the console can handle nothing better than 2D platformers? Obviously anyone who has actually played on the Wii U will not think that at all but from the view of someone who plays xbox one for example and hasn't touched a Nintendo product since the Wii they may think this and it is people who haven't played the Wii U enough that is putting it down.

The problem is Nintendo's communication with its audience. Nintendo isn't able to tell consumers why to buy a Wii U. I think after this holiday season that will change. Nintendo likes to let games do the talking over fearures and marketing and 2D games and generally faster to make. If people would give it time before saying Nintendo is DOOOMED! Then they might see the consoles strengths... to bad that isn't going to happen

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Indie's are a great thing, just look how big of a deal it is that the Playstation 4 has so many indies! Because after all, PS hearts indies.

The PS4 has a ton ofindie games announced and it hasn't been hurt.

A big problem is that compare the indies on the PS4 to the Wii U one. They have a lot if the same games but the PS4 also has more than a lot of 2D platformers.

Getting a 2D platformer was smart since those games appeal to the Nintendo community, but now with so many 2D platformers on the system it must be hard to stand out.

No, it's not a problem. Anyone who would think that isn't getting a Wii U anyway.

I seriously doubt it, especially since Sony is also embracing indies like crazy and Microsoft is uh...trying to embrace them?

But how long must we wait. Its been over a year and the Wii U is still facing the we.problems it did this time last year. Meanwhile the Xbox one and PS4 have had strong launches follow up with big games in a six month period.

That is right but the people that are on the fence can have their decision easily influenced by people like that.

The thing is though there are many other games other than indie games coming out for the PS4 so it isn't being labelled as an indie console whereas I feel the Wii U is.

But the thing is there is much more other games on the PS4 and Xbox One so they aren't being labelled as indie consoles and the Wii U is because even though Nintendo are working really hard to make games there is next to no 3rd party games being made for the system.

But there are a lot of Devs praising the Wii U concept so the Wii U does have some appeal.

Seriously though, I don't think Indies are doing much for consoles since these devs are desperate for money and will do whatever suits them to get that money.

What I can say is how creative these devs can really be. I'm looking at you Daisuke Amaya! (A.K.A Pixel)

@CDBz

Eh the PS4 seems to have more indies and higher profile indie devs throwing support for it every day. Look at an indie game like Bound by flame which is pretty much a B tier console game.

@Unca_Lz

Eh they have to start somewhere and in some ways the Xbox I e indie program is much better than Sony and Nintendo's.

There's a difference between porting your game for various platforms to get more money and milk the same thing over and over again to make quick money.

This holiday season... I thought I said that. Also I am not sure how strong the other consoles are on games, I follow them as close as I can but still haven't seen anything that defines what "next-gen" is as much as ZombiU defined what the GamePad was good for. PS4 has had good sales but I have no idea why

i dont really care too much for the indie market right now, i think its a case of been there done that for me with the type of games and graphical style that most adapt these days, sure games like super meat boy, Fez where kinda groundbreaking at the time, but now it seems like every indie game is taking that blocky retro look, which wastnt bad at first, but now its become too much.

If it wasn't for indie games wii u's release schedule would be virtually non-existent and that's taking into consideration the VC service as well as retail.
