What do you think?

Don't forget that the Gamepads are region locked so buying from Japan does not work as NA/EU replacements.

Hoping to see if they planned to have that in NA/EU (never thought Nintendo would do this.) that's pretty cool!

It's great. Now your system won't be useless anymore if your Gamepad was to break, forcing you to rebuy a Wii U if you wanted to keep on playing Wii U games.

Did I read that right ..... 12,800 yen for a spare gamepad.

That's more than I paid for my second hand Wii U console.

It costs 12800 Yen, almost 100 €, so if you were guessing why the Wii U is still so "costly", now you have the answer!

@SuperWiiU: Or you can send your Gamepad to Nintendo for repairs, that's still WAY cheaper than buying a new Wii U.

It makes me wonder if the NX will be backwards compatible with Wii U and use the Wii U Game Pad for the NX's BC.

If they're smart, they won't drop it. They might release an updated version of it with better resolution and possibly more buttons/triggers or even release a radically different controller as base controller for the NX while still supporting the Wii U GamePad, in a similar way as the Wii Remote and its peripherals are supported in the Wii U games.

I imagine in the west it would be more like $99. Still, though, you'd think after so long on the market, that the gamepad would be so much cheaper. If they're making profit on the Wii U and the gamepad costs around $80-90 to make (I'm assuming they'd make a hefty profit on these standalone sales), that means just the console would probably be around $150 without it.

Yeah, I'm starting to think the gamepad really is a big source of their struggles this generation, as much as I enjoy it.

As much as I like the Gamepad personally, I'm positive it would have been much more successful launching at $250 with a Pro controller instead.

everything's good and it'll be that way forever!
