THIS IS NOT SOME COMMENTARY ON SOME SIPPOSED FALL OF NINTENDO. This is completely theoretical. Please don't make this some sort of 'Nintendo is stupid and doomed' thread, you know who you are. So if Nintendo became a large third party and stopped making systems and made games for all its former competitors, what would your reaction be as a fan and gamer? I would still be playing games but severely disappointed. Nintendo always seems to be the most innovate in my opinion out of the big 3. They would still make games so that's good.

This.

though on the plus side, I'd have money to finally get a Sony console and play the many games I missed. Assuming new Nintendo games would be on it though.

Nintendo games have always gone hand and hand with their hardware. If Nintendo was third party, they'd lose their edge and probably carry on no better than SEGA.

I'd argue against that. Nintendo has too many IPs that people still buy. Mario and Pokemon alone have made them more money than most small nations. Most of Sega's IPs are games that at best, haven't mattered in the slightest in the past decade.

I don't know, I can't imagine doing this, it seems like Nintendo would never do third party, that they'd stick first party until they go under, but okay, trying to picture if they did... I just don't know. ><; it's a future I'd rather not live in, I grew up with Nintendo. Obviously I'd still get their games, but who would innovate hardware? I can't imagine that evolving much with just Sony and Microsoft...

I wouldn't certainly mind it. Playing a Super Mario 64 remake on my Vita would be awesome.

Eh, as long as the games were still available I wouldn't be terribly upset. We all got used to Sega being a 3rd party publisher, right?

Yeah but those IPs alone would probably keep them afloat anyways with their hardware.

You may call me a coward, but at the end of the day who's still living, hm?

Sometimes I wonder if people bother doing any research before commenting.

It makes me sad imagining picking out a Kirby game with a big glowing green 'X' above him:(

That's not his point. His point was that Nintendo's hardware compliments the software. Something its competition's hardware probably won't do.

Get over it.

I would love a Mario themed endless runner on iOS.

I wouldn't mind. It may be rocky for a while, but I could see them coming out with great games that lots of people can play, a lot like Sega- oh...

Or maybe we'd just get a bunch of Mario games all at once- oh...

This is something I'd need to see happen to judge. One possibility is they'd crash like SEGA, and everything goes downhill from there. But another, more optimistic idea is they'd carry on, be revered for their quality amongst third-parties and make more money.

I refuse to believe one doesn't already exist. Even if it's unofficial.

I think games like Pikmin and Mario Kart would play great on my iPad. I don't know that I'd buy another console just to play their games, but certainly I'd regard a Nintendo title as more of a system-seller than oh, say one from...Ubisoft, for example?

I have to admit that Nintendo seems less prone to the Sega route if this were to happen. Even saying that, I have learned anything is possible these days. The more I think about the more strange the idea of Nintendo being a third party seems.

It would be surreal to say the least. Though granted, non-Nintendo people would have a lot of fun with it if we use Sega as an example. Their console failures meant that 3rd party Sega gave us: Adventure 1 remake, Adventure 2 remake, Sonic Mega Collection, First 2 Super Monkey Ball games, Jet Set Radio Future Phantasy Star Online 1 and 2, 2 Sonic Advance games, Phantasy Star Collection, Shenmue 2 etc within less than 2 years.

You nailed it, Trainer_DJ. I would be saddened for a time, but it wouldn't stop me from playing games.
