Topic: Idea Suggestions for Wii U

Like the title says, I would like to hear some idea of yours about what you want to see on Wii U. For me, the possibilities are endless, but I would like to see gamecube games rendered in 1080p( I'm not talking about Dolphin emu) which can be available for purchase, or if you already have a retail one, you could enter the product code so you won't have trouble purchasing another copy.

Tell me other ideas that you would like to share.

I'll start the ball rolling... I would love to see Wii games upgraded in hd. Also, I would love something like an app store (not like the eshop, like the apple app store) and an e-reader app. I also think it would be cool to have cross-platform play with the 3ds, not just the 3ds as a controller.

An slot to insert and play DS carts

Upgradeable hardware(graphics, ram, etc.) and a wireless gamecube controller with dual analog sticks.

That would be horrible. The other thing has to happen if they want gamecube on the Vf.

Please put in a blu-ray movie drive!!!

I do not think that it is a good idea, you don't want wii u to be $400, do you?

Besides, isn't Blu-Ray a Sony's thing?

I personally wouldn't mind having a Blu-Ray Driver in it for a little extra, because I don't have one anyway...I can't of feel without one, they are a little behind the competitors...or at least a DVD player.

They should make a media player channel where you play movies or music from extrenal hard drive at any format, problem solved.

My TV can already play videos off a USB drive so the last think I'd want is for my Wii U to rise in price due to having useless features for me such as a SBS/Bluray player.
As @Azooooz said, if they want it to be able to play media then being able to play stuff off a USB drive or SD card would be a much better option.
Still, personally, as my TV can already play videos off a USB, I'm more than happy for them to not bother at all and just bring me some good games like a good console should.

@Azooooz Good idea, I would like to see a channel on the Wii U Eshop where you can download HD versions of gamecube and maybe n64 games. It would be called HD Classics instead of 3d classics.

I don't know if they will implement this, but I would like to see Nintendo eShop on Wii U uses real-life currency like dollars, plus using prepaid cards for people who don't own Visa or Mastercard.

I would like to see that Nintendo opens its shop in Middle-East, many people in M-E are Nintendo fans, and they are waiting for Nintendo to open its store.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo has already stated that the Wii-U won't do any upscaling of Wii games. I'm sure just having backwards-compatibility working will be work enough, but working on adding visual effects to old games is something that would only distract from making a system to run new software.

I think one thing they really should do is ape Apple's position on the iOS devices and decouple the user account for downloads from the hardware to push more frequent hardware upgrades. Not being able to easily sell people on swapping out their Wii for a new black or red one was a big missed opportunity; ditto for upgrading the system to keep current with Microsoft and Sony.

If they're going to embrace digital downloads this generation then they should stop thinking about the console as something you get for the kiddies to last for years. iPad and iPhone are way more expensive than Wii and yet Apple does very well putting out a new version of these devices every year and they have a massive software shop. Despite this you don't see a lot of market fragmentation; indeed as long as an application is supported by the developer it will continue to run on new platforms and people who buy iOS devices seem to be good about upgrading them to within one or two generations of current.

If Wii-U is reasonably-priced and Nintendo succeeds in making it a "must have" then I think they should be able to break with the old console hardware release cycle. Nintendo needs to go in a different direction and say that the Wii-U is more like an iPad than a PC - it's not something you buy every five years with the odd upgrade. The most expensive thing seems to be the basic system design and then the online infrastructure behind it. I suspect Microsoft and Sony might try this as well: keeping the form factor basically the same, but tweaking the specs every couple of years. They already sell versions with different storage capacities which is practically the same thing.

I honestly think that's going to be the way forward for gaming consoles to keep them relevant: periodic small changes to processors/memory every couple of years with a big update every four or five, but maintaining backwards-compatibility to provide a continuity to users so that they won't feel like they're accumulating hardware to play old software.

A harddrive or the ability to add one would be the main thing for me and may even influence whether I buy a wii u at all as I tend to buy more downloads than retail.

Yeah I would go a external over internal anyday, cheaper to buy, easier to install and no heat generated inside the Wii U chassis means no RROD shenanigans. I want to see VC games from alot of devs that we have been hanging out for and plenty of them around launch.

The main sell for me would be easier to swap/out service kit without the risk of losing my data.

Even if there's no upscaling of Wii video I'd like the ability to run games off of an external hard disk - not only to mitigate loading issues, but reduce wear-and-tear on my optical drive and hedge against disc rot.

External may be easier to install but tinternal has better wrote speeds which is most important.

nintendo will never go with the incremental upgrades. Apple gets away with it because they are different products. Consoles are beefed up to last in /he long haul. Even apples own apple Tv had big gaps between updates.

You can mitigate against that by using a speedy interface like eSATA, USB3 or Firewire 800. I don't think an external drive is going to be slower than optical disc in any event so that would be a plus regardless of whether the drive was internal or not. But if Nintendo isn't planning to allow running of disc-based games from a hard drive then frankly I won't see much point in investing in one since I could just use SD cards for download purchases. I suppose it would all depend on whether they make good on their pledge to sell downloads of full retail titles and the performance read-write from SD isn't sufficient to do so.

I expect Apple would have done more frequent updates to AppleTV if it had been less of a niche product. Nintendo and other console makers are definitely going to be pushing their machines as more than just game machines, just as Apple pushes games on their iOS platforms. I really wouldn't discount the idea that we'll see more frequent hardware sales to try to encourage people to double-dip; especially when the economic situation makes it less likely that more households will be splashing out as extravagantly as they have in the past.

I just hate that every time I click on an article about the Wii U, all I see is tech jargon and specs speculation. As far as this system is concerned, I could care less about all the bells and whistles and power under the hood. I just want good games and creative gameplay ideas.
