(This is my first forum post, and unsure whether this has been discussed before)
I believe it is possible for Nintendo to port Pokemon to the Wii U, in theory it seems simple enough, not sure
about in practical terms. Anyway, if Nintendo, or the developers (Game Freak), were to keep to similar controls
for the GamePad, as well as have what is on the touch screen on the DS on the GamePad, while having the
top screen as the TV. Also to 'spice' it up to make it unique, change the graphics to HD textures. Again, in theory
(to me at least) this sounds reasonable enough to accomplish. The point of this forum was to express my idea
on this subject. Reply to this thread with your ideas and whether you agree with my reasoning or not.
(Please note that I do not own a Wii U (plan on getting one soon), so I am not familiar with the actual console)
*PS: This is a far fetched idea, but I also had the idea of cross-platform battling and trading with the 3DS over the Nintendo Network
I just think its insane that Gamefreak hasn't already announced a full powered Pokémon game for Wii U. It coulda been releasing shortly after DK: U or something.
I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

The problem is that all the other games have been portable and, to be fair, Pokemon is a very portable game.
A console iteration could work, but it wouldn't be the same. Pokemon is about going on adventures and seeing the world and all of that comes together so well when the game is on a portable console like the GB, GBA, DS, and 3DS. You have to option to explore your world as you explore the Pokemon world and you can run into other people that are a part of that world and challenge them to battles. It's a great experience when you're walking around campus and someone sees you playing Pokemon X and challenges you to a battle.
An experience that made me fall in love with Pokemon involves elevators. Silly, I know, but I was already impressed with Pokemon Gold when I first got it (my first Pokemon game) because the world wasn't something of fantasy and I wasn't playing an anthropomorphized dog that could fly through the air (not a real game), I was a boy going through a world that's entirely possible in my realm of existence. One day, I went to work with my dad and I was in a Department Store in the game. We went on an elevator at the same time I went on one in the game and I truly felt connected to the game afterward.
That's just something that can't be emulated on a home console.
TL;DR - Pokemon is portable because adventures can take you anywhere. Home consoles have to stay at home.
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

Okay... but there's nothing wrong with a Pokémon Coliseum game for Wii U....

Why release a Pokemon Coliseum game on the Wii U when Pokemon X and Y offer so much more?
I'm not saying it won't happen, I'm just saying I don't think Pokemon Coliseum is necessary right now.
@kyuubikid213 We need the Wii U to sell, man! We need it to sell!!!!!! A full powered Pokémon game for Wii U WOULD SELL! Portability wouldn't matter for that game!
X/Y are great games by the way but they fall short in alotta areas. The biggest thing with X/Y is that... THEY SOLD WELL!!! We want that same thing for Wii U!
Sometimes these situations make my headache. You see the result of the game on the 3DS. The same with Animal Crossing, it wouldn't even be a discussion these games would just happen. Nintendo sometimes just doesn't make sense.

Agreed but I'm nearly positive that Animal Crossing HD is in the works at Nintendo and will be revealed at E3.
Will a full powered Pokémon Wii U game be announced at E3? I REALLY HOPE IT DOES.

Gamefreak isnt putting a mainline game on the WiiU for whatever reason. So hopefully they at least have some type of plans. I'd take a new Pokemon Snap game .
Four more months until Bayonetta 2.

But simply putting Pokémon on the Wii U won't make the Wii U sell. And aside from that, I'm fairly certain more people buy the GB, GBA, DS, and 3DS Pokémon games than the N64, GCN, and Wii games.
Again, not saying Pokémon on the Wii U would be a bad idea, but the framework for the Pokémon series has been built around portability
Here's what Junichi Masuda (Game Freak co-founder) has to say on the topic.
“I don’t think so. I think the Pokemon core series is always going to be with handheld hardware, in the future as well. I consider handheld hardware you can carry around with you as almost being equal to being with Pokemon, always. I think handheld really matches the idea of Pokemon that we have. Also, you can communicate and transfer data all the time, whenever you want with a handheld. That’s also a match with the Pokemon concept.”

This is why you will never see a real console pokemon game.
When you really think about how the game would be in real life, its actually very dark and full of illegal stuff.
It always made more sense on gameboy for many other reasons as well. Imagine if they had tried to make all 150 original pokemon on a console at that time. The limitations of the gameboys graphics made that many monsters possible at that time. Arguably they could do it now, but think about how many pokemon exist now, and having to fully model, texture, animate etc each and every one would take years all by itself.
The reason why there isn't a main series pokemon game on Wii U is because Game Freak thinks they work best on handheld systems, since the whole point of Pocket Monsters is to travel around and meet up with friends in real life and battle/trade. As for games on Wii U we will probably get a game like Battle Revolution where you send your X/Y pokemon team to the Wii U to battle it out on the bigscreen. We may also see that Poken game they teased a while back but who knows.
