I got a good laugh when they announced the Wii Fit Trainer as a playable character and I was hoping that it WASN'T a joke. I thought her move skill set was hilarious. I have never even played Wii Fit but I'm looking forward to this character, I think it was really clever and unexpected of Nintendo, so bravo on that. I wasn't excited about the Villager at first, but this meme about him has piqued my interest a bit, lol. It adds a side to him that makes me want to play him, even if that isn't what he's about. I haven't played a SSB since Melee so I'm really looking forward to this one.
It's not like nintendo is forcing you to play as her...

It isn't that people don't want to play as her per se, I'm pretty sure it's more that they think she's taking up a spot in the roster that could've been given to a character that "deserved" it more than her.
I, personally, think that it was a pleasant surprise to see her added to the roster.
You may think that this Trainer may be a waste of space but riddle me this my good sir.
How do you think Bowser got rid of that hunched look through Melee to this installment (while gaining a couple of new moves, personally he looks a bit more intimidating.)?
How do you think Pikachu lost all of that weight?
Why do you think that tripping is now alleviated?
This woman has been sharing other people worldwide how to achieve perfect balance so you wouldn't stumble over yourself, how to maintain a healthy diet by eating the right foods and losing weight and maintaining perfect posture.
If anything you should be thanking her and the thanks she gets is removing her?
Was Mariobro4. No, I'm not taking off my backpack...it's important.
The Villager makes perfect sense. He represents a relatively large Nintendo franchise, he has a diverse move set, and looks like a lot of fun to play as. I don't understand how one could hate the Villager.
Not to mention he has the potential of representing various old franchises (like Ballon FIght) and his alternate outfits can be pretty varied, he could even become female ala Ice Climber and be yet another female character in the game. After all, the name "Villager" ins't very gender specific.
Its because he's not A character; much like Wii Fit Trainer. It'd be like including the default male Mii as a playable character.
I think including Tom Nook or Mr. Resetti would've made more sense IMO.
@Morphtorok about him representing old franchises; Nintendo Land already did that with Balloon Trip Breeze, Octopus Dance, and Takamaru's Ninja Castle. Not to mention Mr. Game & Watch as a whole represents the bygone era of LCD games.
