Ok, so pretty self-explanatory. I have a Samsung 32", 720p HDTV. But, I know that nearly, if not all of Nintendo's outings on the WiiU are in glorious 1080p goodness. However, I've been wanting to blow some money lately (I do not needlessly spend money, ever, and at certain times I just get overcome to BUY SOMETHING...dumb, I know).
Anyway, would I be losing out if I bought a WiiU, and hooked it up to my 720p HDTV? I planned on getting a PS4, and WiiU, when I got a larger 1080p TV (40-50"), but I don't want to wait anymore. Would I be missing out on full HD sugarsmacks?

I can't remember exactly, but I think a lot of Nintendo's games are in 720p anyways. (they mentioned this about early games, so I'm not sure about 3D World and Tropical Freeze)
The sensible thing would be to wait until your current tv gives up on you, but that not be for quite some time yet.

Well, the 720p would be for the bedroom, and the newer TV that would be larger would be for the living room. I would normally agree with you about waiting until one gives out, but that was how I was going to have it. PS3 in the bedroom, and PS4/WiiU in the living room. But, I don't want to wait anymore. And, my Samsung looks like it is going to last for quite a long time, lol. Great TV.

I have already bought Wonderful 101, but most of my Wii games are in storage. I doubt I'll go back to any of them, but I do have two RPG's from last generation, that should look nice on the machine. Xenoblade, and The Last Story. I never finished Xenoblade, and never started The Last Story. Xenoblade was amazing...just got sidetracked...

I believe that from the settings you can set the Wii U's resolution to 720p, as well as 480p, 1080i, and 1080p depending on your TV (including an automatic option). That ought to help you out.
Does it matter so greatly. The only time resolution bothers me is when it's utterly horrid (3DS screen) or the image is a lower resolution than the screen. You aren't missing too much, upgrade when you need to.

If the game is native 720p (like most console games) it's gonna look better on a 720p TV. 720p video on a 1080p display looks worse that 720p video on a 720p display, because the pixels don't line up perfectly. When you put 921,600 pixels (720p) into 2,073,600 pixels (1080p), some of the original pixels are being stretched out over multiple pixels on the display, resulting in a less-than-stellar image. I hope I explained this in a way everyone can understand.

That wouldn't effect the resolution that the games themselves are nativily displayed at only OS menus and miiverse, eshop etc.
When I got my Wii U in January 2013, I only had a CRT. About three weeks later, I got a 40" Bravia with 1080p support. You can start with the Samsung, as the games will be in HD anyway, and later, when you are ready, buy the new TV and try all of your games again to see the difference.
My point is, don't let your current set up hold you from buying a Wii U.

720p, 1080p, 4k, blah. They don't really matter, in the end of the day it really depends on how big your TV is and the distance you will be away from it. If you're going to get 50" TV, I would highly suggest 1080p because 720p would be stretching it a little. Here's a little graph to help you make your decision
