I'm choosing between these two I think. These are what I narrowed it down to as I believe one of these two have to be the best. If you recommend another though feel free to let me know about it. Thanks for the help people.

The Avermedia Game Capture HD does not have to have HDMI.

I know. I use it.

Edit - That said I have no idea if it works with the Wii U. I haven't tried yet. It works with PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii though.

What do you use it for? I mean the captured gameplay? Doing reviews for youtube or making stunt-videos or something? Anything on youtube? Link? ;) Thanks!

I plan on picking up the Elgato Game Capture HD for my birthday because my component cord is messed up on my AVerMedia Game Capture HD. The live commentary feature seems cool and I'm also looking for an HDMI device.
However, the game sound and the sound from your voice through the mic will be combined--audio wont be split. Some people just end up using a sound recorder application like Audacity.
Heck there's even an intergrated twitch tv live streaming application on it as well (Too bad i probably wont be able to use that well until I get my internet upgraded). Anyway do some extra research on what's right for you :)

EDIT # 1 - Sorry I didnt realize the Roxio had stream on twitch too.

EDIT # 2
This youtuber has a few videos comparing the Elgato Game Capture HD , HD PVR 2 & Roxio Game Capture HD Pro:

What HE BELIEVES is the best one:

I like the look of the Elgato; the size and how the software looks at seems easy to use. I also like how raw videos look on youtube when people upload there Quality tests.

What I've heard around the net:
1- A couple of ppl saying the Roxio's software is buggy/laggy & not as smooth as the Elgato.
2- Elgato isn't as sharp of quality compared to Roxio.
3- Elgato's software is a lot more demanding on your computer than any other recording device, so have a computer up to par with it.

A Nice review of the Roxio Game Capture HD Pro:

Review of the Elgato Game Capture HD:

AND of course QUALITY TEST for those of you interested - Roxio vs Elgato:

I use an avermedia live gamer to great result. Super easy to set up, plenty of options for capture or streaming, and the HDMI passthrough makes hooking it up a cinch. I use a switching box to flip between recording my PC or my WiiU.

The vast majority of my youtube videos are recorded with it, although they get downrated from 60 to 30fps when uploaded. Still, fairly smooth, and works perfectly well for Wii games run on the system too.

If Elgato is taxing on the hardware should I just get the Roxio? My laptop is pretty old.. planning on getting a new one when I get the money but I don't know when that will be.

Can you plug other things into this, too? I was looking at these, but I don't really care to share my gameplay or anything with anyone else.

I purchased the Roxio Game Capture HD just recently and it seems to be pretty great so far. My PC is pretty modestly specced but all it means is I have to shut down any other programs when recording. The software that comes with it isn't fantastic(and seems a bit unstable at times) but works well enough. As a warning though to use the passthrough you have to have power going to it so you'll need to turn on your laptop when you want to play normally.

Well let's look at both of the specs

Roxio Game Capture HD Pro:
Minimum System Requirements:
Microsoft Windows® 8, 7, Vista™ SP2, XP (SP3 for 32 bit & SP2 for 64 bit), Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor 1.8 GHz or AMD Athlon x2 64 2.0 GHz, 2GB RAM
Dual Core 2.3 GHz above is recommended for 1080 30p/60i recording.
The product is also Windows 8 ready.
DirectX® 9.0c compatible graphics card or higher, sound card
2GB free hard drive space for installation. 10+ GB free recommended for video recording.
Windows Media Player 11 or higher
Internet explorer 7 or 8
Internet connection required for capture, live streaming, registration, product updates and tutorials. Any Internet charges are the user's responsibility
Internet upload speed for Live Streaming: 1.5 Mbps. 2.5 Mbps above is recommended
720p live stream requires at least 4.5 Mbps internet upload speed.
One available USB 2.0 port

Elgato Game Capture HD:
Mac: OS X 10.7 or later,
2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
PC: Windows 7 or later,
2.0 GHz dual core CPU, sound card
4 GB of RAM, built-in USB 2.0 port

Internet connection required to download Elgato Game Capture HD software

Well if your computer is a old go with the Roxio :)
Its cheaper too & quality still looks good just watch out for the buggyness here and there like Oregano said!

@ SCAR392 - I've seen people hook up these devices to the Elgato Game Capture HD the following ways:
1- The Nintendo Gamecube & Wii - Using the component cables that comes with the device
2- A Nintendo Wii U, Xbox 360 - Using HDMI
3- Playstation 3 - Using its special AV cables that comes with the device
4- Apple Ipad 2 - YOU'LL need to BUY a different cable called : Digital AV adapter that has an HDMI port built in.
