Can I hookup 8 Gamecube controllers to the Wii U for Smash Bros. Wii U?
Can I play Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, and Hyrule Warriors with the Gamecube controller?
Now, my biggest question is... Are Gamecube games available for purchase on the Wii U's virtual console? I really want to play my old favorites like Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart Double Dash, etc.
If not, does Nintendo have plans to do so? The Gamecube has some all-time-great games — first-party, Nintendo-only games.
Also, I feel like if the Wii U doesn't have what I want then I'm gonna have to ask myself, "Is it worth it getting a Wii U just for the new Smash Bros.?" I sold my Super Nintendo, N64, and Gamecube... and all my games. I know the Wii U's hardware can emulate GC games; I saw a YouTube video of Double Dash running in full HD 1080p on the Wii U.

I think it is worth getting a Wii U. From the above questions it seems like you would be interested in a lot more games than just Smash Bros and it isn't like Nintendo games will start showing up on other consoles any time soon. So I recommend getting a Wii U (I personally own about 100 games on Wii U)
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

1) Yes

3) No
4) No, nothing has been announced yet.
5) The Wii U is worth getting for the 1st party library which includes but is not limited to Super Smash Bros. Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario 3D World which you mentioned are some compelling reasons to purchase the Wii U as well. The system has and is bound to receive some of the best entries in several key Nintendo franchises. Scheduled for release in 2015 are The Legend of Zelda, Starfox, Kirby, Yoshi and Xenoblade Chronicles X, for instance.

Apparently, you can run GC games in Wii mode by modding the Wii mode, but that would void any guarantee. Double Dash will probably never run in more than the native resolution on the Wii U. For that, you'd need something that can can actively upscale, such as Dolphin on the PC.

1. yes with 2 adaptors
2. With the official Gamecube adaptor from Nintendo no you cannot but with this one and yes I have it and can say it works you can, however! The game has to have classic controller support for this adaptor to work, and keep in mind it drains wiimote batteries like no tomorrow. ((http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420571050&sr=8-1&keywords=mayflash+gamecube+adaptor)) or better yet get the Hori Battle Pad.
3.Sadly no, I imagine we will get Gamecube games via HD remasters in the future, and the severe lack of VC support is highly disappointing, heck we haven't even got a single N64 game on the Wii U VC yet.
4. The Wii U is worth getting now, much more so than when I got it back in march 2013. Regarding gamecube compatibility.. since the cpu is similar in core architecture to the Wii (which was a GameCube 1.5 hardware wise) which allowed it to have compatibility with Wii games natively it would naturally be compatible with GameCube software, however the gamecube ports as we know are absent from the wii u and this gamecube game compatibility is for the most part switched off, unless you hack the wii u's vWii which i will not delv into detail at all just stating the facts.
1. Yes (if you can find a gamecube controller adapter is another story)
2. No
3. No
4. It's still up in the air. Nintendo has said it would be nice to see N64 and GC games on the Wii U Virtual Console, but thus so far, we've seen none of either (though you can get some N64 games on the Wii VC).
5. I would say it's worth getting. It's very much a "Nintendo-box" due to lack of third party support, but there is a handful decent third party games on the Wii U (I recommend Assassin's Creed 4, Lego City Undercover, Mass Effect 3, Batman: Arkham City, Deus Ex and Need for Speed Most Wanted U). Your purchase shouldn't be limited to just Smash. Mario Kart 8, Mario 3D World, Bayonetta 2, Wind Waker HD, Hyrule Warriors, Pikmin 3, and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze are all fantastic titles you can also pick up. The 2015 releases are also looking pretty good.
As for someone playing GC games... I have heard that you mod the Wii mode or something, but I wouldn't know anything about that.

This is not straight-forward AFAIK. I understand the Wii U does not have the hardware to read GC discs. The youtube videos seem to indicate you need to install home-brew of the Wii U's Wii mode and a separate Wii. Install an app to launch games from a hard disc on both, then on the Wii using a home-brew app rip your GC games to the hard drive, move the hard-drive over to the Wii U, then install an app to map the GC controller to the Wii classic controller, then finally launch the game from the hard-drive. All sounds very awkward (although the software is there to make it happen) and needs a separate Wii to do it legally (i.e. without pirating games), I see it more as a proof of concept that the Wii U can run GC games, which makes it very irritating that Nintendo has not put GC games on the shop, especially now there is an adaptor for the GC controller.
Can I hookup 8 Gamecube controllers to the Wii U for Smash Bros. Wii U?
Yes, but with 2 Gamecube to Wii U USB adapters which are sold separately.
Can I play Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, and Hyrule Warriors with the Gamecube controller?
No with the official Gamecube to Wii U adapter. Yes (only with Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors does not support the Wii Classic Controller option) with the 3rd party Mayflash (Reason being Mayflash Gamecube adapter attached your Gamecube Controller to the Wii Remote instead of directly into the console which in terms will let the system thinks your using a Wii Classic Controller).
Now, my biggest question is... Are Gamecube games available for purchase on the Wii U's virtual console? I really want to play my old favorites like Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart Double Dash, etc.
No there aren't any ports, but they did remake The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker in HD.
If not, does Nintendo have plans to do so? The Gamecube has some all-time-great games — first-party, Nintendo-only games.
A few Nintendo employees did originally stated that their could be a Gamecube Virtual Console section in the future, the problem is there were never any conclusive answer.

Depends what you like. I mean for me the reason why it was a "must have" system was because of Pikmin 3. However other unique titles like The Wonderfull 101, Nintendo Land, Captain Toads: Treasure tracker, Bayonetta 2, Lego City Undercover, NES REMIX, Pushmo World / Pullblox World kept me a happy gamer even after my satisfaction with Pikmin 3.
Because of Nintendo's PowerPC Architecture design in all of Nintendo's disc format consoles it's possible for retail GC games to still be accessible, but because of cost and originally not having the adapter Nintendo removed the compatibility. However modding the console did provide the option again. (Just to be clear modding does go against the Wii U eShop terms of agreement)
On a side note Nintendo did re-released some NES, SNES and GBA games on the Wii U eshop and N64, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis / Sega Mega Drive, NEC Turbo Grafx 16, SNK Neo Geo and Virtual Console Arcade can still be access via Wii U's Wii Mode Wii Shop Channel, however those non eShop games are only Wii digital ports and not optimized for Wii U like the ones on the Nintendo Wii U eShop.
You'll want Pro controllers and Nintendo's output on Wii U easily holds up to their GCN lineup. Do not, under any circumstances, sell your old consoles and especially not the games. Major mistake.
1. Yes, if you can find an adapter. There are plenty of other options for Smash if you can't though
2. No, they could potentially patch it but I wouldn't count on it
3. No
4. Hard to tell. It has been hinted at but it doesn't even have a N64 VC yet. Again I wouldn't count on it
5. "Just Smash"? .......
i have 130 hours on mk8. 30 hours of super smash. i figure that by this time next year, i'll have over 200 on each. i paid $35 for mk8 after trade in and other deals, and $60 for ssb, so for $400 i got 400 hours of entertainment in just over a year and a half on those two alone. so yeah, i think those two justifythe purchase of the sysrem

It doesn't make sense to keep them when Nintendo can easily do what Sony did and sell classic games on their digital store.
I still have my PS2 because Sony's selection of PS2 Classics is pretty barren. They can't just put all the games there. They have to go around and reacquire all of the licenses. This is especially a lengthy process if things like voice acting, music, or other assets all have different licenses (as they often do). The vast majority of the PS2 library will never be worth Sony's time and money to put on PSN. All of this applies to Nintendo as well. For example, we will probably never see Star Fox on the Virtual Console because the Super FX chip used in development is proprietary, not owned by Nintendo, and not licensed for digital distribution.

Well, that's a bother. I was wondering why they didn't release it yet, but I didn't even know about the FX chip issue.
But that article is just someone's logical counterarguments to what he perceives as myths. It contains no empirical evidence or data to back it up. As for the Super FX chip, he says that it's a myth because Nintendo re-released Yoshi's Island on Gameboy Advance, but this isn't quite true. Nintendo remade it for GBA and the chip, which was actually integrated onto the SNES cartridge circuit board, was not involved at all.
