Oh yeah as for pre-owned. Lulz. I'd love to find out how many stores in the UK have a copy of 999: 9 hours, 9 persons, 9 doors or Disaster: Day of Crisis for Wii. Whereas I can tip-tappy bosh that s***t into an online retailer and there it is.

I've been running around local retailers for a pre-owned copy of Xenoblade Chronicles for ages, especially since not even the online stores here in Sweden have a copy and at Amazon UK it's way too expensive. >: (

'Had to report my local GameStop'

'Conversation was appaling'

'Now I don't know exactly how that works...'

Well at least it's nice to see you had a strong understanding of the situation before you personally took offence and complained! Good job!

Wow. I live in Canada and I must say, I absolutely adore the game shops here, especially EBgames. The people who work there are always cheerful and welcoming. They always provide you with useful knowledge and they will even put you off buying a game because they think it is unsuitable for you (of course you can still buy it if you insist).

Not to mention all those pre-order and occasional used game deals. I know online stores are cheaper sometimes but I still prefer to communicate with an actual person rather than just the computer screen. I have been shopping at EB for a long time and I have NEVER experience anything you guys mentioned above.

The only gripes I have with EBgames is that they do not price match and some of their used games have unusual high prices. Other than that, they are the perfect place to shop for games. Thank god I live in Canada.

All the EB Games in my area changed over to GameStops and eventually went downhill. Stealing from the pre-order bonus pot and selling unwrapped (occasionally played) games as "new" are the most widespread, egregious indiscretions.

Ah, used to love those EB stores. Maybe I'll hop a ferry across Lake Superior and... Wait, Canadian game prices are terrible, aren't they? I suppose we get the service we deserve, in that sense...

Then again, this is a retailer that opens new games, allows employees to "research" them, and proceeds to sell them as new. Before GameStop started putting tape on these "new" games, a manager once had the audacity to refuse a return of a game a day or two later because it was opened (by them).

I could populate a whole thread myself about the shady practices I've observed at the GameStops in my area.

Ive seen them do this ALL the time. Also had them grab the disc from the used game pile, put it back in the case and try to tell me its a new copy.

Dunno why I even brought up knowledge to be honest. I know my stuff, I am clued up on the whatevers regarding my own game choices, all I need people to do is get me my swag as soon as possible. As if I'm going to go to a store and ask them something only to hear 'Sorry, never heard of it'' or asking the release date of something when they themselves get it off the... internet.

The other part of knowledge I guess is knowing which games people would like to buy and reacting accordingly - and it's this that stores fail at for reasons I and others have stated.

As for Target - UK based fellow here - we don't have such a thing but in your/it's defence, I have to say that the USA does impress me whenever I see some of the special deals that gaming websites the world over publish, from them, Gamestop, Best Buy, Walmart etc. You guys always seem to get interesting things such as the discounts, e/x things and others such as exclusive this or that. Culturally there is still something significant in your country to going to the store and buying there. The best the UK can ever seem to muster is bog-standard pre-ordering with a £10 deposit upfront i.e paying for the privilege of a guaranteed thing that the internet will 99.9% of the time deliver without the extra charge.

Well, you should see our shopping centers! For example, there is a town in my area that was just a massive prairie valley along a major interstate. In the last 20 years it has exploded into a huge expanse of sprawling suburban development surrounding two massive shopping centers. Mind-boggling stuff... The scale is simply immense.

I remember running through those fields as a kid, brushing the long grasses with my fingers while that sweet smell of prairie as far as I could see consoled me, compelled me to some purpose that rendered all the rest obsolete for but a moment, a single pointless day staking a corner of the tarp sheltering what may be a soul, or just a young psyche.

Now those memories are like a vague dream. A spiritual remnant of useless space exhausted through progress. Not that I know what's right or wrong, but I know what cannot be recovered.

We used to have the same price as the US (till a few months ago at least), but these greedy koo koo suckers hike up ALL the game prices by 5 dollars to compensate for the "failing Canadian dollar", which is bull****. This hike has nothing to do with EBgames though, all retailers including the Eshop is selling at that price.
