If you are complaining about the Wii U, you either:
1. Are doing it wrong
2. Don't have a Wii U
3. Complain too much
I agree completely with the OP, the Wii U is part QoL, part Videogame console. With QoL going its own way soon, I do hope the next system is more of a gaming system though.

You do realise that 15 years ago there were also quite a few revolutionary shooters (UT, Quake 3) as well as the last GTA before the new idea of what GTA is. Then there were big JRPGs, Pokemon was taking the world by storm and Smash Bros was a brand new thing. Some games were even starting to play around with the idea of quicktime events. If anything 15 years ago the 2D platforming genre had faded into obscurity and the gaming world was full of basically everything that exists now but 2D platformers.

So in a nutshell the Nintendo of 15 years ago was doing this:
Untitled
and the Nintendo of now is doing this:
Untitled

and you think this is the same?............ I can't say I agree with you. Other than maybe Nintendo haven't fallen into the "low difficulty" trap as much as some others have. Is it the difficulty of some of these games that's "old"? If that's the case then good on them

My point was not to really dissect exactly how old the "new" games for Wii U look, but instead just illustrate that there's not much coming out that looks impressive by today's terms (Nintendo being the exception). I'm not a graphics junkie, but my phone's games are looking better than the majority of titles coming to Wii U. Blok Drop U anyone? Shovel Knight looks pretty cool, but again... had enough 2d platformers! Nintendo cheaped-out on the hardware and now we're paying the price with pretty much no third party support. Da truth.

That's not the point he's trying to make. I'm pretty sure we all know that Wii U games can be made look visually pleasing.

He's talking about all the indie games. All the games that are coming to Wii U don't take full advantage of its power. Granted, indie games exist on other platforms, but we're dealing with an issue here. We have Nintendo AAA titles, and then we have third party indie games. There is nothing in the middle. No one committed to taking full advantage of the Wii U with a complete development team that's not Nintendo. There is no third pillar.

@brewsky and @gage_wolf Does Bayonetta 2 count? The screenshots from that game looks very good. There's a developer video of Platinum Games talking about how they wanna use the Wii U's hardware as best as they can.

I never said it wasn't awesome, my main thing is when it comes to getting new users onto the platform how can you convince them that the Wii U gamepad is better than a Tablet/console set up. My brother has a surface/Xbox One and other than say Off Screen Play (something he doesn't care about that much) it would be a hard sell to show him what a Gamepad does that the Gamepad can't.

I think it would help nintendo if they opened up app development for the system so more people could take advantge of the gamepad. The Wii U should have also came with software installed for the gamepad, like how the 3DS came with face radiers and teh AR card games.

it was suposed to but whether out of greed or realizing how long current games would be in development they opted to release it as a retail title. this is why game and wario feels unfinished and why it's budget priced. these were tec demos that nintendo had plans to pre install on the system.

And? What, we're picking out one game that's $2 and US only, reviewed poorly and with a stripped down visual style and using that as the example? Give me a break. If you want to say that the Wii U's software "look like they came out 15 years ago" then stand by it. Don't try and skirt your way out of it. If all of the Games between Pikmin 3 and Mario Kart 8 are in that category then stand by it.

Just realise that you sound like an idiot when you try to argue that Wind Waker HD, DKC:TF, Super Mario 3D World, Rayman Legends, Assassin's Creed, CoD, Batman and the indie stuffs like Knytt, Cloudberry Kingdom, RUSH, Edge, Castlestorm are all games that could have existed in 1999. No, sorry, that's BS. Whatever your point might have been you lost the right to defend it when you said the games were like they were from the late 90s. Now go find somewhere else to troll.

Then he should have made that point rather than trying to be sensationalist about it. Disregarding all of the games that are the exceptions to "the rule" and then using a broad brush. There have been pages on this forum devoted to the third party situation, I haven't yet seen anyone come out and trash Nintendo's first party and indie stuff as being "like stuff that came out 15 years ago".

i see a third pillar....it's just small. a number of third party game will hit the system this year it's just.....the number are low.

that hd of black gate
the new romance dawn
child of light
sonic boom
transformers
lego hobbit
and more on the way i bet. e3 is coming.
the real question is how many of these will/can you buy.
i plan on three of the above mentioned titles.

Ok, chill out... Here was my the quote from my original post on this thread:
"If you peruse through the Nintendo Life new stories, the majority of the game previews, MK 8 & SSB being the exception, the games look like they came out 15 years ago. "
As you can see I never said ALL Wii U games look old. The comment you're responding to is like 3 comments removed from my original post. So maybe go back and read the whole back and forth before you start calling people troll. Nothing wrong with some good old debate, that's what makes these forums interesting. No need to call people idiots.

I read your posts, I'm not taking it out of context. I just don't see what reason you could have for saying the games coming out on the system look like they're "15 years old". Other than trying to be sensationalist and trying to get a rise out of people. When questioned on it you stood firm on the "15 years" statement and went further by saying it was a "clumsy iPad" where a "majority" of the games were "2D platformers and ugly puzzle game" which "we already got plenty of in the mid to late 90s"

So try and backtrack now if you really want to. Try and say that you actually meant was that shovelware sucks and that the Wii U has poor third party support. Either way, it doesn't change what you originally said. And what you originally said and continued to push did make you look like an idiot or a troll. Because the fact is that the vast majority games the Wii U is getting, even from indies, is better than the sort of stuff you'd see in muddy 90s shovelware.

So you just backtracked and responded for me? haha. Ok, this is my last go at this point. Check the list of games being released for Wii U this month, and then check all the other systems. You will notice that amazing games are hitting pretty much every other system (even 3DS) except Wii U. In fact Wii U has no major title release this month. Due to Nintendo's odd decision to make the Wii U pretty weak (or simply not as compatible to porting) and all the other weird marketing stuff they've dragged us through, we now have basically no third party support. Which leaves us, the owners of the system, with very few options. You either play and love the first party titles or... well yeah. For me, I wasn't really interested in playing the new DK, just not my cup of tea, and I already beat the hell out of SM3W, so I haven't had a really great game to make me wanna play my Wii U since early January. So what have I been doing with my Wii U in the interim? It's an internet browser. A giant white plastic internet browser. I'm not backtracking. I love Nintendo's games, I don't love their current decision making trends though.

Where did I backtrack? I'm saying the same thing I was in my first post. The first post which I made after reading the posts you made before it. You're the one who's suddenly talking about major games on Wii U in March 2013 compared to the releases on other platforms. Your first few posts were just rants about how the Wii U is a clunky iPad with games that were from 15 years ago.

Even now you're trying to hold onto the nonsense about the Wii U's hardware being the reason it lacks third party support. Hell, you're saying that it's something to do with the "weird marketing". Give us a break, why not just admit that your first post was trollbait? It did make you look like an idiot and you're not really remedying that

Well this is getting a bit out of hand. Here's my first post again, without the sarcastic bits as you seem to be sensitive to those:

"at least in my opinion, that the Wii U is in a really bad place. There is a serious lack of quality games hitting the U. If you peruse through the Nintendo Life new stories, the majority of the game previews, MK 8 & SSB being the exception, the games look like they came out 15 years ago. This month, all the other systems are getting heavy hitters such as Dark Souls 2, Titanfall, Infamous: Second Son, and Metal Gear 5. What are we getting on the Wii U? Nothing. "

Read it again. I'm making pretty much the same point.

I know this topic slid into a general "the Wii U sucks/wins" conversation but I have to agree with the original post. I owned an Xbox 360 for a long time and I never played local multiplayer on it. My wife hated it so bad. She couldn't play with it at all.

The Wii U she loves. She plays Zelda a lot slowly learning how to control a video game (which isn't easy to do with Battlefield). The Wii U helps me play with my wife instead of playing alone. That's more important for me than any 3rd party titles, graphics, sales numbers.
