I know it's been about 2 weeks since Nintendo has held its investor briefing, but there is something that had confused me a bit. There is a part where they said that they will make Nintendo Network ID an account-based system, but two pictures from the briefing have made confused me about which platform will be getting it:
Will this be implemented on Wii U and 3DS? or will they use it for their next generation consoles? Someone please clarify.
Making promise is easy. The hard part is keeping it.

I think Nintendo will use the 3DS and WiiU for testing and implement the final concept in the next gen.
but I can be wrong about this

You know how all Playstation devices use the same network and the 360 and XB1 use the same network? That's what Nintendo is planning to do.
I think you mean account system, because im quite sure 360 and Xbone is separated when it comes to game servers.
That's what I'm worried the most. By the time it is implemented, Nintendo's next console hardware and handheld will have better and different network than the recent one, thus making them irrelevant, just like the Wii and DS.
The consoles we have now will be doing some sort of connection like this as an early test, but the next-gen Nintendo consoles that'll replace Wii U & 3DS in the far future will be even stronger.
I hope that they make the NNID a proper account-based system for Wii U and 3DS before releasing new hardware, or else I might regret buying Wii U (which so far I'm not).
I'm requesting one of NL staff to ask this question to one of Nintendo representatives.
I can only clarify what this unified system can do, but I cannot answer the question that you asked that many people are ignoring.
The question is whether or not this new system will be implemented with the current generation of consoles and handhelds or held off until the next generation.
Nintendo has not explicitly stated when this will be implemented. However, I can offer a guess.
My best bet is that this new system will be held off until the next generation. The reason these graphics have the Wii U and 3DS on them is for clarity. It's for the viewer to see and quickly recognize that the graphic and information is talking about two separate devices. By putting the Wii U and 3DS in the graphic, one can easily recognize that this account system is for a handheld and a console.

This is talking about how they plan to move to the next generation. A single account that you can use on both
Those are not the Wii U and 3DS. What they're saying, I believe, is that when you get these next consoles you'll just put in your NNID. Then your new console will immediately know all of your previous purchases.
............ I think improvements to the Wii U and 3DS are also likely but I don't think that's what the above is about.

Iwata wants the next console and handheld to be more tied together.
A good example of this is what Sony is doing with the PS4 and Vita. Same accounts, usernames, and possibly cross-play/cross-buy. This has a lot of advantages, is more user friendly than their current set up, and Nintendo would be able to use one platform to promote the other.
I honestly have no idea why this didn't happen this gen or hasn't happened yet. Especially when you consider the fact that they went with a touch screen controller and are even putting DS games on Wii U VC.
Four more months until Bayonetta 2.

NNintendohad been a generation being when it comes to online play for a while now. I don't think it truly ever occurred to Nintendo at the time of the 3DS launch. The Wii Us online set up says a lot to it.
I think were going to see these account set ups for the Wii U and 3DS but its going to take a while.

They are most likely working on a proper account system. Heck the NNID implementation on the 3DS connected the two devices on one account. The next step is a more streamlined transfer of purchases.

One Nnid per 3ds and multiple on wii u. It should be there account system and hopefully allow cross but and upgrade pricing on future consoles instead of making us buy the same game over and over.
I want to believe this would mean finally that you don't have to worry about needing to sell your console back to Nintendo in order to retrieve your digital games if something happens to it.... but I don't really think it'll happen..... Like when they announce NNID on 3DS everybody got excited and said it was a step in the right direction then when the details come up it turned out to a ploy to screw up customers and a huge drawback..... I hope I'm wrong but I think this news would be the same thing..
No one's "making" you buy the same game. You made the choice to pay to play it on multiple systems
True but I don't think it's that simple. Personally while I do have a few games on both I have never actually paid full price to play on both. I'm ok paying, for example, the cheap "Wii Upgrade" price to play a NES game that I already had on the 3DS because of the Ambassador programme. I'm also ok paying the Indie discount price for Mighty Switch Force HD when I already have the 3DS version. However I'm not interested in paying full price twice.
If I knew that getting a game on one meant that the price on the other was reduced significantly then I'd be buying more games. Simple as that. If getting Mega Man 2 on the Wii U VC meant that it was $1 on the 3DS eShop then instead of neither I'm getting both.
