Theres a good (not definite) chance we will see a new metroid title for WII U at E3. As a shooter style title there will should be a 12 player online battle mode of some sort which im hoping will be beautiful, with great maps to play. But will it just go down that standard fps style or do you think it will be completely different? For me I think great maps and big weapons is fine but ìt would be interesting to here some thoughts on it.

If Nintendo ever does decide to make a Metroid game with online multiplayer I feel they should make the online experience similar to Metroid Prime Hunters that was on the DS. But of course with a ton more options, features, bounty hunters, weapons, items, levels/arenas, and customizations to boot. That would be amazing! And of course with the option to use wii+nunchuck controls for fast & super accurate aiming. Would be amazing if nintendo did this for sure.

Let's make Halo but with Metroid.

Seriously enough just build on Metroid Prime Hunters, i'm not sure how well it would sell with arena shooters no longer being a thing.

I would like an MMO where you play a Metroid perhaps.

Nobody has made one properly for ages. (Unreal Tournament 3 is the last I can think of but it removed what made 2004 good).

I'd like it to not be there.

I want to see a 2D Metroid with Multiplayer. 1 peraon play Samus, 3 people play Space Pirates hunting Samus. Samus is in Zero Suit form and has to run around finding randomly placed power-ups. When she gets all of them the tables turn and the Pirates now become the hunted while they try to escape. If a Pirate escapes they transform into Metal Ridley have fight Samus to the death... just an idea

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.

You aren't going to find a lot of Wii U owners who really care about online multiplayer games. Especially in Nintendo games that aren't MK or Smash Bros.

You could work together to kill enemies or duke it out in teams or every-man-for-himself.

This. I don't play Metroid for the multiplayer option. I'd much rather they devote that time and resources towards the single-player experience.

I would rather Star Fox become their online shooter than Metroid. I wouldn't mind seeing Assault 2 with online multiplayer and bigger levels

Multiplayer in a Metroid game seems a bit of a strange pairing. If they want to make a multiplayer-focused shooter game, I'd rather they just use a new IP.

You obviously haven't played Metroid Prime: Hunters for the Nintendo DS

It had local and online multiplayer and it was GREAT. I really, REALLY hope Nintendo does something like that in the future. Nintendo needs more online games.

Also, people saying that they don't want multiplayer because they would rather focus on the single player experience is stupid. Just don't play multipalyer then, and let everyone else enjoy it.

No, it's not stupid. Multiplayer takes time and development resources, resources that we would rather see spent towards improving the single-player experience.

Its possible for both to be good.

Actually they could just out source the development of the multiplayer to another development studio and I doubt that it would really affect the quality or scope of the single player mode I can't understand how adding more content that will increase the longevity of the games replay factor is a bad thing.

Star Fox would be weird in 1st person, and it wouldn't have the same appeal if it were a 3rd person shooter. I think Metroid does need something new to bring to the table in terms of multiplayer gameplay, but Hunters may not be the best example. They already have a fundamentally different weapons system with infinite ammo, no reloading, and charging shots, so definitely stick to that. They also have the motion capabilities of the gamepad, but unfortunately no equivalent in the Pro Controller and no second stick on the Wii Remote, so players using any controller other than the gamepad would be at a disadvantage. I think if they released some kind of add-on for the pro controller to give it motion plus and magnetometer capabilities like the gamepad it'd be fine, but otherwise multiplayer wouldn't have any fine aiming options to keep things fair for everyone and it'd just end up being like Halo, or else have no local option.

That said, they could do interesting things by building off of other shooter innovations, like still have a life bar that recharges, but the extra energy is removed from a limited reserve tank so you still have to search for health powerups without becoming too powerful. They could also stagger out the release of gradually more powerful powerups over time, or make it so that a single player picking up a powerup gives that to his entire team, or make it so that once a powerup is claimed it is barred from use by the opposing team.

Here are some ideas for special modes:

Metroidball: A spin on capture the flag in which case the object is to get a small Metroid (or Mocktroid) on the tip of your gun by charging to attract it and releasing to fire and "pass" it, and shoot it into a goal at the opposite end of the map right next to your opponent's spawn points. It may encourage teamwork by draining the health of the ball carrier.

Iceball: The ball carrier cannot move and must pass in order to get it closer to the opposing goal.

Hot Potato: The only means of death is by the Metroid you're passing, but the Metroid will come back to you if you don't hit someone else with it.

Tag: One person is randomly chosen as "It" and passes off this status by shooting someone else. Whoever is "It" when time runs out is the loser, with the winner being determined by whoever was "It" for the least amount of time.

Freeze Tag: Rather than making other people "It", you permanently freeze other players by shooting them with an Ice Beam, and the objective is to freeze everyone before time runs out. However, the entire opposing team is armed with Plasma Beams, allowing them to unfreeze each other.

X Tag: You are infected with an X parasite, and your beam will infect other players and make them switch to your team. If you infect all other players before time runs out, X win. All other players are armed with Ice Beams and Missiles.

Hide and Seek: All but one player is stuck in Morph Ball mode, and they have one minute to find a hiding spot before they are frozen. The player with the gamepad must then find everyone before time runs out.

There's a lot that hasn't been done with the FPS formula yet, and Metroid is in as good a position as anyone else to take advantage of new gameplay ideas.
