At the core each of them have their strengths and weakness and if you can get all three.

I'll be going PS4/Wii U and get a One when a mainline Halo comes out.

Exactly the same way I would Wii and 360/PS3. While the cheaper of the latter interests me, right now at least the former is clearly the correct option.

Here's my take on it:

PS4 is shaping up to be the sort of "SNES" of this current generation, from my POV. Obviously PC will always be superior in the graphics department, but the philosophy behind the PS4 seems to be geared towards just being a really killer home console with all the bells and whistles you'd expect from a new system, plus LOTS of games on the horizon. It's still too early and expensive for me, but I'm fairly certain I will have one at some point.

XBone is a multimedia entertainment beast, which doesn't really appeal to me too much, but for people that are big TV watchers it seems to be pretty impressive. Titanfall looks to be a pretty impressive title to have in its lineup so soon after launch. Do not plan on owning one...

Both of those systems will have a lot in common due to the near identical third party support we will see happening soon, but I think PS4 edges out the Xbone due to its really amazing first party studios and Naughty Dog exclusivity. Both of these systems cater to the hardcore as well as the masses.

Wii U, as Nintendo intended, is not really comparable to the other two systems. It has amazing first party titles and offers the possibility of fairly unique experiences with the Gamepad, but the trade-off for this unique-ness is that there is little to no third party support, nor is there much of an online multiplayer experience to really dive into it. Because of that, I would describe the Wii U as niche. It doesn't necessarily cater to the hardcore, nor does it cater to the masses. I own one, and even though it's been out a year, I wouldn't say it hasn't really found its footing yet, which is kind of a bummer.

I think the Wii U is actually geared toward the masses. For me, I like the classic games it offers, and then anything else is pretty much bonus. I think there's a lot more people out there like me than you think.

When I first saw this, I wanted to say the Wii was a lot better than any of the consoles this generation.
But then I realized you made a typo and meant the wii u. Well, the wii u is a joke compared to the ps4. It might as well be the game boy color in terms of processing power/graphics/memory space/etc. I still think wii u is the best console right now, but in a year, I don't think it will be much competition for the ps4.
I still would rank the wii u above the Xbox one, though due to the fact that nintendo has better exclusives. In fact, I think it's safe to say that nintendo will almost always have better exclusives, it's the one thing that keeps nintendo even relevant and I don't think anybody would argue against that. It's the staple in nintendo's business model: Don't worry if the console is the most inferior, as long as the games are superior. Case in point, wii u.

All three are great gaming machines and I would buy all three if I was rich.

I feel the Wii U is just as good as the other two and with a library of top-quality games backing it, it could even be better.
If I had to rank them, I'd say PS4 > Wii U > One.

The PS4 looks nice and has a few games I'd be interested in playing. However, no backwards compatibility means I can't enjoy the newer or better games of the PS3 library. The Wii U is a great console, but Nintendo's dogma towards gaming isn't something the rest of the industry feels is relevant anymore in an attempt to make games accessible to everyone. The One hasn't given me any reason to want it yet. It doesn't impress me visually and the library of games it currently has for it have better counterparts on the 360 which I could play if it were backwards compatible.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I definitely agree in the sense that all 3 have worthy games to play, but most people aren't millionaires and can't afford a console for 1 or 2 games over 6-7 years. If I got an xbox one for free, I'd buy Ryse because it looks worthwhile, but if it's play rise or play Pikmin 3/SSB4/SM3DW/Zelda/Mario Kart, I'd rather buy a wii u. Although at this point, I may buy a ps4 in the future instead. I just hate to not be loyal to nintendo anymore. Hopefully e3 will show the wii u to turn around.

Surprising lack of troll comments, hatedumb comments, and PS4 fanboyism is suprising.
I think the only way the consoles compare is games. In this case, I think the Wii U is a much better console. That Xbox One and PS4 seem to be offering the same games with different price points, making them worse for me as I don't really care for any of them (as of now). I will get a PS4 for KH3 and FFXIV, and maybe if the library improves, maybe more. But really, all three offer different experiences (for the most part) so they all are good in their own ways.

the other consoles have over Wii U

Third Party Support
Account System
Region Free
Powah

Wii U has

cheaper
Free Online

I don't like the idea of paying for online but no third party support is a deal breaker for me and region lock and games tied to the console really kill the Wii U's appeal to me ( the 3DS can make for those with its awesome lineup of third party exclusives).

It could argued that the Wii U so far is pretty much the same games we saw last generation on the Wii.

Ad per online I'm unsure if free online is good selling point when feature wise the Wii U still doesn't compete do any thing better than live or PSN.

I think your interest in Nintendo or just games in general to the point that you are posting in forums such as this one may disqualify you from being considered part of "the masses." haha

I'd say you're right, in that Nintendo is trying to cater to the masses, but I think the opportunity for mass appeal is pretty hampered with the Wii U due to it's confusing design and a rather out-of-touch marketing approach. The first party games on the Wii U are too complex for casuals, such as my parents, who are baffled by the game pad with all the buttons, gyro controls, and touch screen after being used to the ultra-simplicity of the original Wii and the iPad. And yet, the system's marketing is too childish and simplistic for the majority of "Joe Public" that, for better or worse, still really enjoy playing CoD and GTA. The system exists in a limbo.

There's comfort to be had in buying the PS4 or XBone, because people know "I will be able to play almost every big game that comes out from here on out." The same cannot be said for Wii U, because the third party support has been spotty, late to release, or now pretty much non-existent.

So what we're left with is a rather narrow area of interest for the masses, which we're seeing translate to low sales numbers. Thus, the Wii U falls into a niche market.

Games, its all about the games, no one looks back and says "hey remember how much powerful the Jaguar was compared to the other consoles?". A powerful console means nothing if the games are not great and memorable, I'm talking a a consumer not as a business, in that respect the most important thing is units sold. As a consumer and a game addict what matters to me is access to good games, I will happily buy any console if it has games that interest me.

That said outside of games the Wii U interested me for two reasons, local co-op and (rightly) free online play. My PS4's main draw is also my PS3's main draw in PSN+, since i have been subbed to it for a while i don't see it as paying for online play. My PC is my main platform as the genres of games i prefer are made for pc (RTS,TBS & RPG).

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

This pretty much sums up this headache of a thread...

Healthier would mean analyzing each kind of apple and orange, taste well that would require all 7 billion people tasting each kind of apple and orange then voting and sales we'll just call even to save time.

Obviously with an Apple you can make an awesome Apple Crumble or Apple Pie. Apples are like supercharged Pears. Oranges on the other hand are like a gimped Lemon. You can't use them on fish like Lemon, you can't make an Orange Meringue. The only thing you can really do is put in a cake or something. Something which again Apples do better.

So without a doubt, when comparing Apples and Oranges Apples win by a landslide.

A few recipes off the top of my head that I've cooked were delicious and included oranges:
Orange cake with a caramel and orange sauce
Orange-scented crème brûlée with blood orange sauce
Vanilla and orange cheesecake with almond sponge, orange and cardamom syrup
Baked chocolate and orange mousse with chocolate sauce and orange cream

So in my mind Oranges are just more interesting.
