It is more powerful than the 360 and PS3, but until developers understand the hardware, it'll take some time for that power to be realized. Same was basically said about the 360, as it was coined Xbox 1.5 because 360 games didn't look too different from Xbox games early on. For all we know, Wii U games that get released around the time the Orbis and Durango get released may not look too much different from games on those because developers have had a good year head start. Orbis and Durango will win power-wise over the Wii U no doubt, but I think Wii U will give them a run for their money.

I laugh at anybody who trolls a Nintendo website forum (or any console-specific website forum) and is annoyed at the shocking presence of fanboyism. But you're pretty good at the flagrant, disruptive trolling, so I won't laugh... for now... bwahaha... |

The only thing that matters when rendering games is how fast the GPU is and how fast can a system feed that GPU the necessary code to be rendered. The Wii U has a fairly fast GPU compared to todays consoles. The Radeon 6000 series is plenty fast and almost double the speed of the Radeon 2000 equivalent in the PS3. (the 360 GPU was only slightly slower than the PS3's) The majority of the leaked specs about Sony and Microsoft's new systems seems to be in agreement that they both will have some sort of Radeon 7000 series chip in it... The difference between the 6000 and 7000 series is no where near the gap that we had with the Wii and PS3, not even close. The Wii was an overclocked Gamecube, it was really underpowered. The new systems from Sony and Microsft's GPU will be 20-30% faster than the Wii U's Radeon 6770. One area that the Wii U will get smoked in is the CPU, the Wii U is lacking in CPU power, but lets get real, its a video game system, the CPU is almost inconsequential to game rendering. 8 bajillion cores may net you a fwe more frames per second, but isn't going to be mind blowing. It helps with AI, or thousands of characters running around, not many games have that.... in short, the ps4/720 while being faster, it won't be so far out there that the Wii U can't handle the same games. As long as Nintendo sells enough systems it will get its share of multiplats. I think Sony fanbois are going to be severely disappointed come E3 this year when they look at the new screenshots of what the new system can do and its only going to look marginally better than the PS3.. I mean, the jump from PS3 to the PS4, if the leaked specs are going to be believed is going to be the difference between the PS3 and a decent PC gaming system is today. It is better, but only marginally so... I don't think the Wii U will lag far behind. In fact to the masses it will be unnoticable. Edited on Mon 28th January, 2013 @ 22:04 by element187 |

Sony as a whole is bleeding money from every division. It would be suicide for them to do the same thing they did with the PS3.. Gamers might have liked the PS3, but it was absolute disaster for Sony where it counts, the bottom line. To date, Sony hasn't made a profit. Not from software licensing, definintely not hardware. After the Eye, the Move, and the Vita, I don't think Sony can take another hit like that. If they go all out, the system will be so astronomically expensive in the Obama era depression that not many people will be willing to shell out north of $600 for a system that is only going to look marginally better than the PS3's graphic capabilities were. If Sony learned from their mistakes on hte PS3, they will release a budget console, while being faster than the Wii U, but probably behind the Microsoft box being announced.... My prediction is Microsoft goes all out, with knowing full well of Sony's cash flow problems, and selling this ultra fast system for the same price as the new Playstation, which no gamer in their right mind will choose the slower machine for the same price. They will all flock to the faster Xbox for the same price. Effectively killing Sony's only niche in the gaming market. Microsoft is ruthless like that. my prediction: After this Gen, everyone will refer to Sony as they refer to Sega today... That they used to make consoles, but now all their gaming market is in software only on other systems. Edited on Mon 28th January, 2013 @ 22:10 by element187 |

28. Posted: Tue 29th Jan 2013 00:59 GMT @kkslider5552000 Anyways, I think people are actually going to be quite shocked with Microsoft's strategy from here on out. I know this sentiment has been popping up elsewhere, and I tend to buy in: I think Microsoft is going to release a console that is much more of a multimedia center than a gaming device, and I think they are going to do it in two tiers; a "gamer" xbox and a "family" xbox. Both are going to have Kinect, and both are going to focus on taking over your living room with apps, music, movies, and television. The "gamer" xbox will indeed have nice specs, but I think we're going to see Microsoft as a company drifting more and more away from the traditional console style of gaming and more into their tablet interfacing, small pay-to-play games. I bet we see them buy up a lot of those smaller, mobile game companies, and in a few years' time we see the xbox turn into more of a home theater than a games-centric machine. I think Sony is going to try and resurrect themselves as THE front runner, which is good for the health of the game market in general, and gets me excited to see what they're going to offer. |
