Yesterday, I accidentally dropped my Gamepad on the hard floor, causing the screen to crack and be unusable. So, I'm buying a replacement online. The extra Wii U is coming in one week. So for now, I'm stuck without a gamepad. So, how much can you do without a gamepad? I noticed that you can move the menu by Wii U remote, but I'm not sure if apps work using a Wii Remote. Help?
You can do pretty much everything that doesn't explicitly require the gamepad. Internet and Netflix, for instance, are completely functional.
Just try out what you whatever you want to use. You can immediately test out anything you want to do and use the home button to back out if you need to.
Uh...you need a Gamepad for Netflix and you can't type anything at all on the internet browser without a Gamepad so I would have to disagree with you @steamhare
Every menu and most of the games work with a Pro Controller or Wiimote. Basically any game that doesn't actively use the second screen, although some indie games might not support all controllers, I'm not sure.
My GOTY? Legend Of Zelda: Splat of the child. Ah no, I meant LoZ: Breath of the SPLATOOOON!
@Dezzy: I didn't say it's the only thing I worry about. But it would actually be a big deal because I'm mainly playing Super Mario Maker and I have lots of other games that wouldn't function without it and I thought that Nintendo doesn't actually sell replacements which is why I've been worried. I figured if it broke I might have a useless console. But thank you for your incredibly valuable input, it really added to the discussion.

Dude, Dezzy is right. You don't have to worry about this. Nintendo will (for the foreseeable future) be able to give you an alternate GamePad. For the right price if you're out of warranty. Nintendo is also actually selling them in Japan these days.
Just looked into this a little more. A replacement costs $150 plus shipping which is utterly ridiculous. I'm probably more worried now than I was before. I can't drop $150 on a controller. That's not reasonable at all and things happen to controllers all the time.

The GamePad has a touchscreen, NFC, and all kinds of complicated tech, it should cost less, sure, but a regular controller should cost about $10 too. Console gaming is an expensive habit. Games costing so much, and this bothers you? It's why all these people prefer to get free games on phones that only cost them about $12... yeah, you can get such smartphones with wi fi only for that price.
