I want at least Pikmin 3, Zelda WW HD, Bayonetta 2, and Wonderful 101 this year. I'll check out other games that show up, but I doubt Mario Kart and the like will show up this year.
I already have:
NSMB.U, Lego City, Sonic Racing, Tekken, MHunter, ZombiU, COD BO II, Nintendo Land, Mighty Switch Force, Nano Assault, Runner 2, and the VC games.
I've played all of them alot so far except Lego, plu I have a good back log of Wii games I can pick up and play like Smash Bros., Mario Kart, Wii Ware, and VC.
All in all, about 5-7 games will do it for me, but I'm sure there will be more, and Deluxe Digital promo will pay for about half of a game throught the year.

I don't own a Wii U yet, but arguably, just one really good game would be enough for me. Like a great 3D Mario game, a great Zelda title or Super Smash Bros 4.

Two would be preferrable. Anything more would be a nice bonus.

Pikmin 3 alone will probably last me 2-3 months. Then I have 3DS, too, so the awesomeness is doubled, and maybe even tripled once 3DS crossplay games come out like Smash Bros, and whatever else.
This year alone will be great for Wii U.

I want at least 1 retail game per month for my consoles, so I should own at least 12 retail Wii U games by November. As I already own 9 games (NintendoLand, NSMBU, ZombiU, Black Ops 2, ME3, Ninja Gaiden 3, NFS:MW, Lego City and MH3U) that is easily achievable.

For the rest of this year (and maybe next) I'm looking at Windwaker HD, Bayonetta 2, The Wonderful 101, Shin Megami X Fire Emblem, Monolith's 'X', plus whatever other big Nintendo titles release (Mario 3D, Mario Kart etc). From 3rd paries I'm interested in Watch Dogs, Injustice and maybe Splinter Cell.

So 3 or 4 big titles and a couple of smaller ones throughout the rest of the year would be enough to have given me a satisfactory year; although to be honest MH3U alone will probably last me until Christmas.

I'd say about 5-7 really good games would please me..

If my brother ends up getting Pikmin 3, then that'll do fine. If not, then that.

Edit: If we're including the Eshop as well, then I'll download a couple of those.

It's not really the number, but more so which games make me happy.

I don't want to be bombarded with too many titles at once.

Wind Waker HD is enough for me. I can play a good Zelda forever!

@MrWalkieTalkie Yet sadly at least a couple of them have been pushed back (i.e. Pikmin and infamously Rayman), and/or have unknown release dates, while the rest (not including those already out) are a mystery as to exactly when they'll be finished. Not a completely bad thing, but not a good one either.

I am pretty sure that all, or at least most, of those have been confirmed for this year

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

When I said exactly, I meant months and days. I know most of them are coming out this year.

Ok I was just saying because the Forum Title says" this year"

I have two games (Mario and Nintendo Land), and the Wii U is already satisfying. However, I'd like to get at least one more game for it this year.
