Okay, so just recently I looked at my meagre collection of Wii U games and found out I had somehow amassed 8 in 4 months (Dec-Mar), which using my superior maths skills I figured out is 2 a month. I don't know about you, but I very much doubt I'll end up owning 24 Wii U games by the end of the year.
So having a quick count up of the titles I really want to get, ignoring any delays or things I don't know about yet (which should even themselves out by my calculations), I've figured out I'm likely to double my collection to 16 games in this year. And that's not games I might pick up if I'm bored, but actually really wanted games, and any more I'm unlikely to be able to play them all to a worthwhile point.
So the question is, how many (quality) games do you think you will need to own on your Wii U by Nov 30th (it's 1st birthday), for the console to be worthwhile this year? And how many do you think will ACTUALLY buy or will be worth buying?
Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?
I dont know I only own four games right now (Nintendoland, FIFA 13, Monster Hunter Ultimate, Lego City) and I am already satisfied with my Wii U. For me its not the amount of games that I have but how satisfying each game is if that makes sense. If I was one that the amount of games made the system worthwhile for me well than I would have waited to get a Wii U. But with games like Lego City, Monster Hunter Ultimate and at the time the exclusive Rayman Legends is why I bought the Wii U honestly. Other games have piqued my interest like Pikman 3 and Animal Crossing but others like Injustice: Gods Among Us are available on the other systems as well so I can't really say those ones are the reason I got my Wii U.
But yeah to make a long story short I really dont need to buy more games to feel satisfied with my Wii U and as what ones I will actually buy well that depends on if I have the money to spend game wise at the time.

I own 4 so far (NL, NSMBU, Lego City and Scribblenauts) along with several eShop titles, and I think 3-4 more this year would be plenty. I think W101, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, and "X" all look fantastic - and that's 4 right there. Plus it's almost certain Nintendo will have another big release or two for the holiday season, likely Mario 3D and Mario Kart. I also want Madden 25 if it comes Wii U. Then there's Retro Studio's project (probably Metroid, but should be great whatever it is).
Even though I only want 3-4 more games, there will probably be about 8 that I really don't want to miss. That's besides some eShop games we already know are coming - D&D, Ducktales remake, Luigi DLC. Even if nothing else is announced, that's enough for me for a long time.
I've yet to even get a Wii U, but that will change this weekend when I finally get the final $100 I need. As for games, not entirely sure. I'll probably amass anywhere from 5-10 by the end of the year.

Well, let's see;
I am getting these games, beyond any doubt. I am pretty satisfied with the third party line-up for the year so far; all I need is Grand Theft Auto V confirmation now:
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut
Pikmin 3
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
Watch_Dogs
Batman Arkham: Origins
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Super Mario U
Mario Kart U
I have my eye on these games:
Rayman Legends
The Wonderful 101
Yarn Yoshi
There's about 15 eShop games that interest me.
and then there's these, which will all be purchased, some of which may or may not be 2013.
Bayonetta 2
Monolith's Game
Retro's Game
FEXSMT
Zelda U
Super Smash Bros. U
A satisfying year indeed, but consuming to basically any excess money in my bank account. That's 9 retail games I'm purchasing for sure, but it could be many more than that.
The console is already worthwhile for me. Off-TV play is proven invaluable when sharing the tube with my wife. I will be happy with 4 Wii U games this year.
To blessed to be stressed.
80's music makes me feel fabulous.

4 or 5 great games. I want to get great games though. People berate others for saying the Wii U doesn't have enough games yet, telling us how they already have 8 or 9 games. That's great if you enjoy them, but personally there's not a single game out yet that I have to play.
I'm currently very interested in Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101, expecting both this year, but Wonderful 101 could easily turn out bad, so I'll have to wait and see. I'm not one of those people that buys a console now for a game that's not coming out for months and months. I have no interest in another Mario Kart or a another Zelda remake. I really can't see Yarn Yoshi or X being out this year either, and have no interest in multiplatform ports as I have other consoles for those, so it's looking a little slim for me.
