You don't need a degree in business to speculate and analyze how companies should operate. Just like you don't need experience as a football coach to criticize the Seahawk's playcalling, or how you don't need a degree in political science to think a candidate is doing something stupid.
The idea that analysis is something only experts can do is mostly restricted to scientific fields, where there is a large objective knowledge barrier to fully understanding problems.

I keep seeing people go on about marketing but it's never a more developed thought of how it should marketed, who it's being marketed to, where's it marketed and what is being marketed or if the money for marketing would be cost effective for a niche product.
It needs to be marketed to teenage males and adults. It needs to alter the belief that the Wii U (and Nintendo in general) is for
children. Advertising during major sporting events, sponsoring/signage at various concerts and events, commercials playing at movie theaters and during popular television programs
Those are all ways to get the word out about Nintendo and make people realize it's still relevant, but along with that Nintendo would also need to produce more mature titles that would hook players who have left Nintendo for other consoles.
And to answer OP's question....nothing can be done at this point to increase Wii U sales by a large number. It will continue to sell less than it's rivals for the duration of it's existence.
I didn't want to do another "lets list all the games"/"look at these metacritc scores" thing. The thing is I've brought most of the critically acclaimed games on both the Wii U and the Wii. And all I can say that in my own personal opinion I feel like the Wii U's content is ahead now compared to where the Wii was at its peak.
I think Smash and Kart on the Wii U are miles ahead of the Wii's equivalents, I feel like I enjoyed Bayonetta 2 more than I enjoyed Prime 3. Galaxy? Well that's a tough one and I don't want to overhype this but there is Splatoon on the horizon. Then there's the smaller digital content where the Wii had a better VC but the Wii U is getting retail Wii games and has a significantly better indie scene. It is definitely subjective but I do feel like the Wii U is smashing it out of the park right now. If people can't enjoy that and instead want to argue about sales and marketing then that's their loss.
It is true that, in this age, more people know what they want and have the tools to research for it themselves, but not everybody. That is not the majority of the industry (especially casual gamers, and clueless parents buying it for their kids).
TBH I think their approach to platforms like youtube probably hurts them more than anything else. They've certainty improved but there's a lot more room for further improvement. Like it not having big lets-players on board kills a lot of potential hype particularly for some of the less known titles.
Also I think it's worth acknowledging the fact that sometimes it's not a "what did they do wrong" thing. Frankly I don't think there's that much that Nintendo has done wrong. Sometimes it's more a case of the market simply wanting something else. People gravitated towards the Wii partly because they were over the XBox/PS and partly because they were nostalgic for the N64/SNES days. That is a factor and it has probably swung back the other way. It's the same thing that happens with politics BTW.

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"
Yep. The second we started arguing whether a set of games of a set of years was "good" and "original" or not
I'd rather see gamers arguing about what games were better than these other games. Better than gamers pretending to be market analysts and arguing about marketing strategies despite not having any actual data infront of them.

The Wii U features are difficult to sell, I think the best that Nintendo can do to sell the Wii U is just keep on releasing packs that include one attractive game. I don't see anything more that they can do at this point.
I really don't like the navigation bar of Nintendo Life continuously reappearing while browsing!!

It's fine to argue about which games are better when it's a focused discussion (e.g. whether Twilight Princess or Wind Waker was better). This was turning into a broad discussion of whether a period of games released was objectively good or bad. There's no way for that to turn out well.
Also, you don't need to be a market analyst to talk about marketing strategies. Marketing is something based on culture human psychology, and that's something that we have some innate understanding of. We are using data, such as Nintendo's quarterly reports, NPD reports, and discussion from actual market analysts. There is very much a discussion to be had.

Is all they can do,when they release a new console when they release it.They can start a new except if they mess up again and give it a stupid name and terrible marketing, which i hope doesn't happen though.
The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
