could you tell me why you didn't want to buy it at first, what were your thoughts/feelings about the console? or have you been influenced in any way?

Hmm, it's pretty vague but I think the reason I wasn't sold at first because that they're just going to be upping the graphics and just cheaply put in the gamepad just cause and put in no other features besides it. Keep in mind that it's pretty vague.

Was Mariobro4. No, I'm not taking off my backpack...it's important.

I don't plan to buy it because of lack of third party support, I like some but not all of Nintendo first party games so buying the console only to play 3 or so first party titles I'm interested on is not enough value for my money.

Zelda
Metroid
Donkey kong
Xenoblade
Wonderful 101
Pikmin
Supersmash bros
Mario kart
.... Just to name a fiew if u only choose 3 you dont like nintendo

Simple, it's the only new console that offers new features that actually enhance my gaming life:

Off screen gameplay is essential, I don't know how I managed to play through 'M' rated games in the past when I had to play late into the night, lock the door, or change the channel when my kids or whoever barged in. Moreover, in this busy age, my wife and I need to be able to tackle our individual hobbies without sacrificing couch-cuddle time. Off screen allows us to be separately entertained yet still together... If that makes sense.

Dual screen local multiplayer reinvigorated my desire to get some buds over to game once again. It also encouraged my wife to try out games she otherwise wouldn't (FPS, for instance) so we can play together more. Also, it simplifies multiplayer with the young kids by removing the split screen confusion/distraction.

The control options are huge for my family. Most games support numerous controllers, that allows my kids to use their preferred Wiimotes (making many games easier for them to manage). Also it gives me the option to choose Wiimote+Nunchuk for games like FPS, motion controls for racing, etc. Finally, it saves me money, because I can pawn my cheaper CC Pro on my friends (who abuse them heartlessly) and horde the expensive Pro controllers for only my gentle, caressing hands.

The improved interface provided by the Gamepad has heightened my interest in games like Arkham City and Assassin's Creed, which are menu, map and/or inventory intensive. And the convenience allows me to be more efficient with my gaming time. When I only have 15-30 min. to play, it's frustrating to have to fumble around with menus and the like for any significant ratio of time.

Free internet play is the only way I'll ever accept such a concept. Access is already far too expensive in my area. I refuse to pay console-based service fees in addition. Personally, I have too many games, other interests, and am overall too busy that I can't even guarantee I'll bother to log in any given month...

Backwards compatibility is always a feature I covet. I grew up recycling console, games, and accessories with each generation... Only to hunt down and re-buy many of those same vintage games a decade later. Never again. In this case, I have so many Wii, VC, and WiiWare games that my kids should be able to stay occupied until adulthood. The ability to continue playing them (displayed on the Gamepad, no less) adds so much value, it's hard to compute.

Hope that helps.

To be honest there was a time when I wasn't sure if I would get the wii u. The wii to me was a disappointment. Although it provided me with some very good gaming experiences ultimately it was severely lacking in variation of genres. Those games that tried to break the mould like say, The Conduit were disappointing. The wii didn't fulfill my gaming needs. I turned to other consoles.
I am not hooked on graphics but... the hardware was severely lacking. How Nintendo got games like Galaxy to look so good is beyond me.

After the announcement of the wii u and the eventual launch I was excited but decided to wait and see how it all played out because I didn't want to buy a console that released one game per year that I wanted. Initial reports were negative regarding the power of the system and third-party support. ZombieU looked horrible. As much as I love Mario and Zelda it looked like I would have to give the wii u a miss. The wii u was looking like the wii all over again without the novelty of the wii remote and the explosive sales.

Fast forward to almost a year and the wii u is beginning to look more appealing to me. Yes, sales are poor but I put that down to horrendous marketing and planning by Nintendo. What is important is that games are coming. The graphics are not the best but the graphics are sufficient. That's fine by me.
Third-Party support is enough to please me. Batman, Assassins Creed, COD, WatchDogs, Bayonetta will keep me happy enough. This is already better than the wii. Here's hoping for much more to come.

The last thing to swing it in my favour was having a "first look" at the other next gen consoles and not being really impressed. Yes, there are more powerful than the wii u but I am convinced that next year will see very good sales for the wii u as people see for themselves that the wii u is a very capable system in it's generation unlike the wii in it's own.

I no longer have the time to spend on gaming as I did a few years back as work and other commitments now take up a lot of my time. I only what to buy one console this time around. So when I asked myself this question last month "which console do I get?" The wii u came up tops. I get to play my Nintendo favorites and the Third-party games that I want.

Bought it a couple weeks back, now have four or five games and cannot leave it alone in my spare time. Enjoying the gamepad experience.

I think the wii u is a decent console. However Nintendo could be doing a much better job. Right now most of the games I own could have been bought on another console. Also I feel like there is a blatant over saturation Mario games. NSMBU is a good game, but I feel like they needed another game at launch that fully utilized the wii u's features. Further more games don't really use the gamepad. There was obviously Nintendo land, but besides that there isn't much worth mentioning. Even games that are coming aren't really using it. I enjoy off screen play , but i feel like that's all its really good for. At least my purposes anyways.

which features you appreciate the most?

1. I think the console is great. It offers many unique features and has a pretty good selection of games so far.
2. I bought the Wii U because I'm a gamer who wants to play everything, a huge Nintendo fan who has been with them since I can remember, and to experience all the new features the system has.
3. Miiverse, Virtual Console, off TV play, backwards compatibility with software and hardware, multitasking between games and internet browser, and compatibility with external storage.

I think the Wii U is brilliant at doing what Nintendo has done in the past- it isn't good at being 'Xboxey' or 'Playstationey'. The gamepad is just another window into the Nintendo World, and it gives a new angle for them to freshen up old ideas. Nintendo is colourful, it's slightly camp and jokey, and tries to make it as easy as possible for anyone to play. Nintendo gives a Japanese version of gaming that is perhaps a little less dramatic/shocking 'America-centric', and it is a more 'family orientated system I'm not afraid to play with my niece and nephew, or my Mum for that mater. People talk about 3rd party support, but the truth is there isn't as many suitable 3rd party games out there for the Wii U as there used to be. It has Sonic, Skylanders, Lego and Rayman. Even Darksiders 2 resembled a grown up Link. It could do with Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Disgaea, and even Street Fighter, but The truth is GTA, Far Cry, and similar games have never really belonged on a Nintendo system because they're too dark and don't fit the demographic Nintendo is aiming for.

For me the Wii U has drawn me back into console gaming to the heyday of the SNES: it caters for what I want. But I can see I'm not part of the majority who want more mature content and more realistic graphics. Even if this is a last days of Rome with Nero Fiddling whilst the walls fall, I will happily keep playing my Wii U.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

Well, if you are a serious gamer like the MadAussie then you would have already got two 1080p TV's for your lounge room and some top of the range wireless headphones many moons ago so you can be in the same room as the ball & chain/family while still being able to enjoy the WiiU games that require the TV & Gamepad at the same time

The Wii U had a better Day 1 than the 3DS but a even longer and worse drought than the 3DS on its first year, but now the Wii U is starting to pick up. It's going to have a good 2014. Now being closer to the PS4 and Xbox One launches, those 2 systems don't have much of a 2014 line up shown out, I think they're going to have the same drought that the Wii U had in 2013. I think all three companies jumped onto 8th gen way too early.

i own a wiiu and alot of games for it i love it. the wiiu is amazing. i bought it a couple months ago during summer. i bought it because of the nintendo first party games, and the fact that most games on the system not only have some sort of multiplayer but offline multiplayer. dont get me wrong i like online multiplayer but offline is far better because i can enjoy games with friends and family in person. the system definetly delivers on that. the graphics are good although weaker than the ps4 and xb1 but thats ok. i think the system will eventually get to the point where it is as sucessful as the gamecube. i think the system has failed to sell alot so far for 2 reasons...poor marketing, and nintendo delaying first party titles. love the system it is one of my favorite systems. i also like the ability to play the regular wii games in addition to wiiu games. the ability to use wii controllers is also nice saves money.
