They wont.
I think they will have the same formula as last year (one or two notable games from Sept - Dec) but have more notable games which will work in their favor.
Four more months until Bayonetta 2.

None of which launch before September. Again how do you keep the hype through 2.5 months?
Well Hyrule Warriors is out in September fairly firmly and most of the rest are just "2014" or just after September. So post September we're going to be bombarded. In the meantime we have Kart which I'm not over yet, don't know about you. Then also all of the indie stuffs. So they keep the hype by going "hey guys, Smash on 3DS is out in October. Here's a Nintendo Direct with Captain Toad and Hyrule Warriors. Look over here, Shovel Knight just came out".
Even if the date for a lot of these games slips into next year. That's A LOT of content. I'd hardly call the mid-year-lull before that a huge problem.
Nintendo should host a big MK8 tournament. And I mean absolutely massive. And post prizes for the top 20 players! Do it in the middle of July and into August.
Although we got a lot of information, there is still a lot of questions yet to be answered floating about:
1: Will MK8 have DLC? Probably, but E3 was too close to launch to already be talking about stuff Nintendo held back to sell you separately.
2: What's up with this Pokken Fighters thing? It makes sense not to clash it with the release of Smash, but it's still floating around out there.
3: What are the actual DATES of release for Bayonetta, Captain Toad, Smash Bros U, Xenoblade Chronicles, etc....
4: Who are the last fighters to be announced in Smash? Wario? Ganon? Cpt Falcon? Dark Pit? Mr Game and Watch? Skull Kid? Bayonetta? Ice Climbers? Lucas? And using the Smash Bros website as a guide that the roster will be a multiple of 9, will there be 36 characters or 45?
5.a: Why isn't there a big release for the 3ds for Christmas?
and
5.b: What was all that on the Smash stage with Zelda Williams and Majora's Mask?
So I think Nintendo has enough to talk about in the next 6 months, without anything else they have up their sleeves.
Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?
I just don't understand it, we've had a great E3, one of the better ones. Now the first topics I see on this forum are about how Nintendo can maintain this hype, ''when is the next Direct'', ''the Wii U software drought of 2014'', etc. Everything Nintendo does to try to lift the mood, just creates more negativity, it seems. Perhaps the gamers aren't anymore what they used to be; Gamers who could enjoy E3, and could talk about the event for many upcoming months.

IIRC, the OP to this thread doesn't own a Wii U. Perhaps it's more convenient to discuss marketing strategies instead of actual games then?

Lol kind of. I'm not just referring to Wii U though right now. 3DS has a drought until the end of August too. And I do have a 3DS. Nintendo's E3 was really amazing, I'm just concerned for them

1. Yes. We've already seen DLC. BTW, not all DLC has to be paid DLC.
2. Pokken Fighters was trademarked. That's all we know. Besides, using Yarn Yoshi as a ruler and assuming what we saw at TGS after the X and Y advert was, in fact, Pokken Fighters, we won't be seeing this game until late 2015, at the earliest, considering putting a game character on a real-life backdrop is a common practice in early development.
3. We will know as we approach. Fair enough. Nintendo doesn't like giving a set date too early, because if the game needs another week or two to be ready, then they don't have to explain how it's coming out October 24th, instead of October 10th.
4. Another fair point, but I feel that Brawl veterans outside of Snake, Ivysaur, and Squirtle are practically guaranteed spots in the new Smash, announced or not. We may take a few pages in the Smash thread to figure out what dates some of these characters may be announced in, but I honestly wouldn't expect a ton of other announcements, and if the Gematsu leak is accurate, Choir Men will probably remain a secret.
5a. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire beg to differ.
5b. TEASING! ALL OF THE TEASING!
I don't care. Mario Kart 8 is fantastic and I am now 100% satisfied with my Wii U. The amazing e3 is just an amazing bonus. W101 was my free download so I've still got that. In the meantime I am getting a free Brain Training DS game. I would say Nintendo only need to advertise Mario Kart and the console between now and September...
I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.
Why do people never list third party or multiplats when they do lists, do they not count? This month alone we have Transformers, One Piece & HTTYD2 being released. Cross gen and multiplat but games for Wii U owners to play nether the less.
July & August though nothing i can think of has been announced Wii U wise, i'd guess its mainly because sales always suck during summer so everyone releases later, hence September & October having most of the major releases this year across all three consoles. No doubt eshop/psn/xboxd games and indies will cover people across the dry periods.

Actually I just forgot about those. Wii Sports Club too. Never mind then.

I think Nintendo will just keep advertising MK8 and ride out the next 3 months fairly easily. I mean, the MK8 bonus game promotion doesn't end until August, so it's still fair game to heavily advertise it until then. After that, well Hyrule Warriors will be close to release. Throw in a few Wii Sports Club ads and Nintendo will keep on chugging along.

Sure they can. Most new people coming in will have previous games to play and the guys who have been with the wii u since the arly stages probably already know the deal, and are going to be buying the indie games that should be coming too.
