For the holidays we will be buying a couple of Wii U games for my kids. They are young and of course love opening presents so it becomes a bit of a challenge when we want to gift digital versions of the game so they don't need to deal with changing the disc.
I've tried printing out a piece of paper showing the game and giving it to them but I was wondering if others had discovered better methods.
@ks-man I've not tried this myself, but you could have a look online for the cover art of the physical version of the game and get it printed (half decent inkjet should be fine) on some appropriately glossy flyer paper. Then take the cover art out of an existing game case and insert your homemade jobby, then put the download code inside the case.
Would it be possible to create a hidden folder (ex. on the last page of your Wii U system) and put the games there? As @DarthNocturnal mentioned, it's a shame that the Wii U doesn't "gift wrap" the icons like the 3DS does after you download a game/app. That would make this answer a LOT easier.
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)
You could always wrap the gamepad, give it to the kids, and press the power button before they unwrap it so that the games are there on the lower screen when they can see the screen.
Edit: for good measure, you could put them in a folder called presents.
How about downloading the games onto a portable hard drive or USB stick, this way you can keep the games hidden until christmas day. Wrap that up, and tell the kids to plug it into their WiiU.
