We wonder lots of things about upcoming Zelda games: Art style, number of dungeons, villains and helper characters, but I'd like to speculate what the "hook" might be. Starting with the 4th game in the series, they've almost all possessed a unique hook. Let's look:
Zelda 1 & 2 didn't really have hooks. Sure you could say 2's hook was RPG elements, side scrolling dungeons, etc. but that's not really what I'm referring to. Zelda 1 and 2 were the developers feeling out what this series was really going to be. Zelda 3 was a decision to go back to the basics of Zelda 1 and refine them to perfection. Since then, here are the hooks:
LA: Island theme, mysterious dream world
Oot: Medieval sort of theme, horse riding, large fields and pastures / Time travel
MM: Masks transforming powers
Oos / Ooa: changing between time periods and seasons
Four Swords Games: Multiplayer, 4 Links
Windwaker: Sailing
MC: Changing sizes
Twilight Princess: Medieval theme, horse riding ala Oot
PH: Sailing, use of touchscreen
ST: Train riding, use of touchscreen
SS: Flying, motion control
So, what's next? We've rode horses, sailed, flown, rode trains, changed sizes.. What's next? More of the same? Something different? A new twist on a past idea?
I think Twilight Princesses 'hook' would be becoming Wolf Link in the Twilight World. Also a link to the past's hook was the Dark world? I want to see large scale monsters or dinosaurs in this next Zelda. Like a combination of Shadow of the Collosus and Zelda, but who knows.
As far as the combining with Shdow of the Collosus - Zelda combo, that could be cool. Zelda kind of already does that in the 3d games by having giant bosses, but definitely nowhere near the scale of SotC did. SotC is essentially just a bunch of boss fights strung together, which, while cool, wasn't quite enough for me. Doing that with some Zelda-ness in between would be awesome.
i kinda agree with the whole big boss battles least they showed that big spider enemy but what i would like is being able to climb on the enemy and take it down parts by parts or something make it feel like your actually taking that huge thing down kinda like how MM did with the twin worms forgot the name but yeah

i stopped playing mario kart now and moved on to luigis mansion :P
The TP hook was Wolf Link. honestly I don't think the next Zelda game needs a major hook or gimmick to work. What ever it is though I'm guessing its going to incorporate the gamepad in some way.

You see an interesting mural/message scrawled across a Temple wall. Scribble it down on your touchscreen notepad set before yourself. And hours later you may across a small almost insignificant area or puzzle where that little scribble from earlier could become really rather useful. Imagine a fifty-hour+ game littered with these forms of clues and puzzles. Little insignificant puzzles (Which will reward you) that can only be solved through exploration/discovery from hours earlier in the game
Bugs and Glitches with a massive list of patches... Sounds awesome
I LOLed so hard when I read it I choked on my juice. You know what I meant don't be a smart ***. XD
He does have a point. And with Nintendo's unending OCD with polish, we'll never get it. They'd have to iron out so many bugs
LOL they could do it like TP and release it around the time of next gen and gives us both a Wii U version and a next gen version.
But in all seriousness what kinda hook could there be to Zelda besides the fact that it's Zelda I think that's all the hook you need. Apparently Aonuma's been playing skyrim I felt like there must be a reason why he mentioned it. You guys got any ideas what it might mean beside glitches XD
The cat's the only cat who knows where it's at.
NNID: Muffin-Gun
Well, Miyamoto DID get the idea for Link from Peter Pan (Google it, too lazy for Link, but I'm serious) so I guess Hook would fit, haha.
The only Skyrim influence I'd like is world size and amount of sidequests. It was way too non linear and unstructured for me. I'm almost 30 years old, I don't have 8 hours to be frolicking in virtual fields and climbing mountains and admiring how the water looks. Give me a task to do and a goal!!!

They could get the people that made the cartoon to finally give Link a voice and a surfboard while he catches them gnarly great sea waves dudes
