I know there might be some bias people on here, and yes Im posting on a nintendo site. But Honestly, should I trade my xbox one in for a wii u?..As of right now there aren't a whole lot of games on the X1 to play. I grew up a nintendo fan, but as most as I grew older I was drawn towards the more mature game. Now as I get even older ( old man here ) I find my self shying away from the mature games and missing the games I grew up on. So i ask again, what do you guys think,, and is it worth it to trade and go back to nintendo? Are the dead in the water like every one says?

I think it's a little too soon to say...... One thing I can say is that you'll never be able to play Mario kart on your xbox one

It depends on the general types of games you play, honestly. I bought my U since I wanted to play Mario/Link/Samus, and it had some other interesting titles that I wanted to try (ZombiU, Wonderful101, and upcoming games). If those are the games you want to play, then you definitely should. However, if you tend toward games like Assassin's Creed, Demon Souls, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, etc, then you'll probably want to keep your XB1.

I don't think anybody could declare that Nintendo is dead in the water and seriously mean it. I'm pretty sure those people are all trolls, lol. Nintendo is in pretty good shape, they just have a long wait between games right now because the lack of 3rd parties.. they're working on that though, by branching out and letting others work with their IP's.. (at least I think they are).

Now, whether you should trade your X-One in or not is entirely up to you. The best games IMO on the Wii U are Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, Zombi U, and Rayman Legends. There is a decent amount of good Virtual Console titles and they just started releasing the GBA games which I'm thoroughly enjoying right now. Mario Kart 8 is coming soon. If you think any of the Wii U games that are out there interest you more than your X-One games or games to come.. then maybe you should. You should definitely do your research first though. By that I mean, watch a lot of trailers, read reviews, just make sure that you really want to play these games.. I put a ton of hours into Pikmin, DK and Wonderful 101 and they're seriously good games, although some people would disagree with W101 because of control issues.. but practice makes perfect and it's really rewarding to take down tough enemies with SKILL.

Hopefully this helps.. honestly, if it were me.. I'd probably just buy a Wii U on the side if I could afford it and keep the X-One. That way you have no regrets.. it really depends on how excited you are for upcoming X-One games.

It's hard to say. I say to make a list of as many games that you want for the X1 that are out now or know is coming, and do the same for Wii U (you can also include Wii games). You also have to consider that X1 will be getting a tone more third party support and AAA games, but it sounds like you're gravitating away from some of that.

I went through a similar phase where I wanted to only play "mature" games, then I got even older and realized how I was the immature one and stopped worrying about what everyone else thought and played for fun. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't play video games, on any console, just to go through the motions or keep up with the Jones', or because it's the thing to do. You should only be playing to have fun every single time you hit the power button, because no matter how sophisticated they get, video games are still ultimately toys.

I would consider waiting and saving for a Wii U. If you buy a Wii U and sell the Xbox, you might regret it later if you want to play Halo (or whatever else Microsoft has in exclusives you'll want to play) and third-party.

Trade or don't either way I think you should buy a WiiU. I know people are saying they're dead in the water, but something that everyone SEEMS to forget is this. Microsoft deal with PCs and PC hardware. Sony deal with all forms of electronics, particularly TVs. Nintendo is the only dedicated video games company in the current popular market. Considering that, they're not doing bad at all. They will always have that fanbase.
And besides there's a few mature games for the WiiU. ZombiU has already been mentioned. That is definitely worth a purchase.

Totally agree with this. Save up for a while, get a Wii U when you can afford it. That way you don't miss out on the XOne games you'll inevitably want to play. I have a PS4 and the Wii U and I play the Nintendo a lot more, but I have to have the PlayStation for all those sweet Naughty Dog games.

Before you trade in any system, you need to consider what you wanted for said system. You also need to consider if you'll get what you want. If the answer to the second question is "no", then you maybe should trade it in. Keep in mind though that the Xbox One hasn't even been out for a year yet, so Microsoft may still whip out some good surprises for their system.

Next, do you really want a Wii U? Does it have games you want to play NOW or games that will come soon? Don't buy a new system based on promises or unofficial possibilities that may not happen (in other words, don't buy it for a Kirby game because there are none atm on Wii U). If you truly want a Wii U over an Xbox One, then trade in the latter for one.

Gamestop currently offers $275 store credit for an Xbox One, but you can get an extra 30% (for a total of $357.50) if you preorder select games including Mario Kart 8. That trade in price is almost enough for a Wii U and its two included games as well as Mario Kart. You can also find out more trade-in values here: http://www.gamestop.com/collection/trade-in On the left side are the values with the 30% bonus, and on the right are the values with a 40% bonus (only if you are a Power Up Rewards Pro member).

@Unca_LZ Pro memberships at GameStop don't give the extra 10% trade-in value for consoles.

Don't trade your Xbox One for a Wii U as you will miss the third party support unless you are really tired of mature games and just want Ninty godness.

I would say at least wait till after E3 to make a decision, but honestly I would like @Jaz007 suggest just saving up for a Wii U.

Thanks for all the feed back guys/gals. I have been thinking about this for over a month now, just needed some more input. At heart I am a nintendo fan. I don't know but there is just something different about nintendo compared to the others. So I have made my choice and I am trading it in and grabbing a wii u. So next question...what are the first games I should get? I am getting the Zelda bundle ( cant pass that up ) and for sure grabbing monster hunter. What other 2 games should I grab right away. ( btw I'm pre-ordering Mario Cart 8 as well )

As someone who traded in their 360 and Wii I can honestly say that I do miss the awesome third party games on the 360 but from this generation onwards I decided that I'm a single home console owner only. Between work and studying for my ACCA I just don't have the time so I decided which I could do without and between the awesome third party support on both microsoft and sony platforms or the first party Nintendo games it wasn't difficult for me.

  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
  • Nintendo Land
  • Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
  • Pikmin 3
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
  • Mario Kart 8 (Upcoming)

These are probably the main selling points for the system, games-wise. I suggest taking a look at these titles (since they're the best exclusive ones available at the moment) and deciding from that if you would prefer the Wii U. If there aren't at least 3 titles here that you'd be quite interested in playing, then my answer to your question would be no, I don't suggest you buy one. If there are however, then go nuts. :3

I don't think you should trade in your XBox one though unless you know you wont be playing any games on it in the future (and you can get a good deal reselling it).

Lego City Undercover should be one of them and maybe Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut (there's some pretty good third party games on it too)

I've said this numerous times over the years in relation to various consoles. I really don't understand this mentality. You put down good money for the system, you're not going to get the full amount back. You have it now, at least get some value out of it.

As for the Wii U well TBH I don't think there's really such a thing as a "dead" console these days. Not from the major players and not like there has been in decades past. Absolute worst case scenario the Wii U ends up having a library about the size of the Gamecube or N64 as well as a flood of indie and VC titles. Same with the XBOne and PS4, regardless of what happens there will be content for those systems.

tl;dr
I like the keep XBOne and then save for a Wii U later option.

Well since you'll have a Adventure RPG, and a Legend of Zelda game, I think you should definitely pick up 3D World. It's a great platformer. If you are into niche titles The Wonderful 101 was probably one of my favorite games of 2013, and don't believe that it has "control issues". The controls are jut not very familiar because there has never been a game with tablet controls like that before. Rayman Legends is great if you want to go 2D on the platforming, and Pikmin 3 is a charming experience if you like micromanaging the little creatures to solve puzzles. I've been enjoying Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze as well, but not as much as I wanted to have.

I always suggest the Wii U as your second console/platform purchase because its literally just exclusives. So if your goal is to get the biggest spread of games then making the Wii U your second choice gives you access to all those exclusive nintendo games. As I have gotten older I to enjoy a wider variety of games and could care less of the rating, its all about fun, and whos to say Mario cant be a mature game(Mario Kart Drinking party!).

IF your coming in now, you will have plenty to play in terms of exclusives, Monster Hunter alone will take over much of your life.
