Topic: Hint at achievements on the Wii U?

I don't quite understand why some developers and publishers shy away from achievement systems, like Nintendo has stated before. It's clearly something that many people buy into but it's not something that will stop ANYONE from buying any particular game/system with them implemented.

It's more effort than some developers are willing to put in. Yeah, they're lazy, but when you force those same lazy developers to put those achievements in anyways, you end up with lazy achievements. Leaving it up to the developers actually isn't a bad idea, especially since it's common enough that only the really lazy would be stupid enough to leave them out at this point.

Forcing developers to have achievements when they don't want to is tantamount to fascism.

They should either have them or not. Having a system like this is just going to be broken and not mean anything.

It's not super difficult or time consuming to implement them in every game. If they're going this route, they should require it.

Well, if this is true, then maybe there will be achievements for the 3DS. I can't exactly remember, but I remember Reggie saying that the 3DS was going to be able to connect to NintendoLand, or Miiverse, I can't remember which one, if not both. This being said, there might be achievements coming for the 3DS as well. Who knows.

They way I feel about achievements are if you like them than do them if not than dont do them no one is forcing you to do them. The only thing I dont like is when game companies say this game is X hours long and half the time is spent doing achievements that serve no purpose to the game's storyline.

It'd an either or system. Nintrndos broken system of let the developer decide just means I'm buying all my third party games on my xbox.

If they ad them in they better be optional or, preferably, do something. I don't want to have crappy objectives to do unless I actually get something by doing them.

Achievements has always been optional you don't have to do them.

Key word: Do.

I don't want them, at all. I should be able to turn them OFF.

Exactly.

And I don't think achievements will be rare on the Wii U just because they aren't required. If anything it may do away with Hana Montana style boring, easy achievements, while all the big games will still do it as an additional selling point. Achievements are too hard set now, and too many people honestly care about them for those guys to leave them out.

The bigger problem is how are the achiements going to be displayed? If they're not required, there's not going to be universal statistics either, right? No trophy room to show them all off to everyone? I was hoping for something clever and substantial from Nintendo. Instead, we get this...

Is it really that hard to ignore them? You could always turn notifications off and then never go to the achievement page. That's literally the equivilent of turning them off.

Sure, but I will still get them and get judged by having a certain amount of them. Doesn't matter if I ignore them personally or not.

I'm not against achievements, it's a great feature for people who care. But, like with any feature I'm not using, I want to have the option to turn it off - completely.

I don't see how this bothers you that much. Obviously there are some issues with you here

You aren't judged by anything. It's for those who want to complete the challenges the devs set for you, or to monitor progress or certain things.

You can still play the game like you normally would in a world where the never existed...it's just about what YOU think. If you're bothered by them that much then obviously you don't think you're doing a good job with the game itself....a simple solution is to just not think like that. Enjoy the game like you would any other....and just take it out of your mind.

Sure. Pretty obvious the issue is with me since it's my opinion on the matter.

That's not how I think at all. So stop assuming as such.

I really prefer the Sakurai School of Achievements: make them unlock rewards ingame, the ones that could spoil the story are revealed after you beat that part of the game (like the ones in KIU regarding characters like Magnus) instead of just being a "Hidden Trophy" you have no idea how to unlock, and put tons of them to have people engaged.

Still good to hear if they are there but devs do not need to put them. Super Street Fighter IV kept its achievement system after being ported to the 3DS, with some being changed to address the new game modes. So even now, it seems to be a developer's choice.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

Like Mickey said, you can just turn off notifications, it'l be like there weren't even there. The only way you'll know they are there is if you actually check for yourself.
You're not being judged, you're judging yourself, you're actually causing yourself unnecessary tension.

Still, that won't solve my issue. I'll still get the achievements and get judged by having a certain amount of them.

It's very interesting how you can say that I'm not being judged when I'm saying that I am being judged. I know I am, if I didn't I wouldn't have this issue to begin with.
