So today I was turning on my Wii U until I noticed an update. Apparently, it appeared to be a System Stability update as Nintendo Life recently announced. However, this update changes everything. I'm not sure whether this was the update listed or a new update that was just released prior to Nintendo Life finding out, but I have found out that there is a new HQ button when you watch a video on the Wii U Internet Browser!

I watch about 20 Youtube videos a day on my Wii U, and it was foolish of me not to know this until nearing the end of the video! Once you click the HQ button, it leads to a new tab which you could click for the HQ version of the video. It loads just as fast, and leads you right where you left off! This is awesome! I'm sure whether or not it actually makes the video look better on the Gamepad. It kind of looks better, but it might just be me thinking that it looks better. Tell me what you guys think, and are you excited for HQ Youtube on the Wii U?

I personally love the Wii U Internet Browser for watching Youtube videos. What I do is that I set my main tab to a Subscriptions tab. And then, I would Open a new Tab for up to five videos at once. Once I click on a video and it starts, I could close that out and replace that tab with another one from my Subscription Box until I have finished watching all videos for the day. As soon as I finishing one video, I could start another by clicking the huge play button. In addition, if I need to know what anything is, I could search a new tab while the video plays in the backround. The Wii U Internet Browser is the most convenient way to watch Youtube videos, especially when on the couch or in bed.

EDIT!!

This is an edit, because I have found some other features that I have found out today!

  • Sometimes, a function button would occur in which you could change the Quality, Speed, and Annotations
  • Annotations don't work on the video playback, only on the actual tab where the original video is being played
  • Speed allows you to change how fast the video is going, obviously! Didn't even know that the Internet Browser was capable of this! You could slow by the video by x0.25 or x0.50 or make it faster by x1.5 or x2.0! The sound also gets faster / slower! Plus, there is no video lag!
  • Quality is basically a quick access for changing the quality of a video. It sometimes shows up before loading a video, however it always shows up after loading the video. 360p is always the default and there is sadly no way for 720p to be the default, so manually changing the quality in each video is mandatory. As well, there is a 240p option that appears to only emit sound, and the rather is just a black screen. It appears to be broken, but who would even use 240p?
  • There appears to be a great change in live streams! I haven't experienced this with any other type of live streaming website. However, I used it on Marriland's Twitch live stream and it worked perfectly! Once you start the live stream, the sound emits and it doesn't show up as a "background video" like the Youtube videos automatically do when you play them. However, you could click the Full Screen button which will allow that feature to occur! Therefore, you could watch a live stream on TV while checking your e-mail on the game pad! The only problem that I had was with pausing. Once you pause the video, it pauses it normally. However, if you were to unpause it, then it would lead back to where you paused it. It doesn't catch up to where the live stream is at! You can't skip the live stream either, so you are stuck with a Play / Pause button. The only way around this is by reloading the page and playing the live stream again! Still a pretty sweet feature!

That's all that I could find. If you find anything cool, then make sure to tell me down in the comment section below, and goodbye!!

That's good to hear. Just a week ago, I finally really used the internet browser, and discovered how convenient it is for youtube. It's cool it let's you multitask, and let's you do things you could only really do on a PC before, like playing some music or video playing in the background while you browse.

I have just made some edits, so I hope that everyone could check it out! Some new (and improved) features, some of which finally function at last!

Is there a reason to use the browser instead of just using the built-in YouTube player?

Better live streaming you say? That's great for the ssb4 direct. The last direct was being feed to me laggy. I thought they were introducing a new punch out game when it started.
