Topic: Having issues with Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.

@MightyKrypto: The digital version is about 11gb. I think I have 13gb free memory on my console. I could buy an external hard drive but I don't want to spend $80 on one. The only ones I read that are confirmed to work on WiiU were like 1tb or more. Could I get a 250gb external hard drive compatible with the console?

@mystman12: yes I have tried doing that, but no luck.

@KaviD: i have no idea which harddrives work with WiiU. I have a 2tb harddrive i use with my WiiU, which works perfect. I don't know if the smaller ones work though. But you can always use an sd card if you have one, as well.
But yeah, it's pretty expensive to buy a hard drive as well as the digital game... and i don't know if it's worth it.

The update was released after the game so it's impossible for it to be included on the disc. Therefore it must be connecting to the Internet to download it.

I think your problem is that you have automatic downloads enabled so it's automatically downloading it and then prompting you to install. You should turn off automatic downloads for updates, delete ALL data for the game, and try again.

It may not be the fix you're looking for but it might get you into the game in a playable state. And once that happens then you can turn on downloadable updates and see if it still works

@JaxonH: I tried that as well. I'm sure that the latest system update is the reason its making me download the game update.

I use an old hard drive with 120 GB. It works fine and I guess most hard drives will work and therefore it is always worth a try.

The problem with DKC:TF is very very strange. I would also turn off the automatic downloads and and delete all content. Then you should try it again.

Do you have other games with problems? Which games do not have problems?

Yes, I got the second-hand wii U version. I checked the disc and it looks brand new, no scratches or anything. I tried it yesterday, the Wii U recognized the disc right away, it asked for an update to be downloaded, so I did. After that, the loading screen appears for about 1 minute, then the error code 150-1031 message appeared. After that, the disc appeared in the Wii U menu as an "Invalid disc".
We tried deleting the update and disconnecting the Wii U from the internet, but even then the update gets installed, I don't know how that works.
We tried smash bros and mario kart 8 and they worked fine, so I'm assuming it's not the Wii U disc reader.

I’ve just experienced exactly the same problem. Is there still no fix for this? Does tropical freeze not work on all wii u consoles or just an unlucky few?

My Wii U would sometimes have trouble reading brand new shiny discs. I would rub them with my shirt to buff them a bit and it usually worked after that.

Can also try standing your Wii U up. Could help it read discs better.

Thanks for your advice. Cleaning and replacing the disc and fixing the position of the console don’t fix the issue. I’m still getting the dirty disc error code.
I’m now wondering whether to sell the disc and buy the download version of tropical freeze. Are there any problems with playing the game that way?

The only issue i had with DKC tropical freeze is that it never got a sequel. I mean the unlockable concept art just screams lost opportunity! A moon world? Yes please! Still holding on to hope.

I really enjoyed country returns and am dying to play tropical freeze. I don’t want to shell out for a Switch but would be happy to buy the digital version for my wii u.
