What @DefHalan said. But then again, Nintendo wants to stay especially secretive now in order to save as many surprises as possible for E3, when they have to compete with the unveiling of two new consoles for the audience's attention.

Remember the PS4 has been announced and there is a chance Microsoft wont even announce a new console this year

True, but all the same E3, despite its slowly declining importance, is the biggest gaming convention of the year, and this year in particular everyone is going hardball.

I think Nintendo is telling more of their current products, but keeping key details secret. They have leaks though, including the Luigi's Mansion Multiplayer, being the most recent in my memory.

I recall a while ago mention that Nintendo purposefully tries to only announce games coming out if they come out within a year. To avoid us waiting such a long time that we begin to lose interest, basically.
Yeah, they are a bit secretive. But it's probably for the best. As people said, do you really want to spend so long between a game's announce and its release that people get bored of it before it even comes out? If you've ever seen a project drag on and on (like Duke Nukem Forever or about 90% of fan projects in existance), you'll realise exactly why Nintendo saves announcements until the game is at least half done.
And it's also to avoid their ideas being copied, since their rivals love to take their ideas as quickly as possible, and Nintendo do at least want a year or so between their original new game/system coming out and someone copying it.
