I enjoy playing co-op games all the time, so I thought I'd try and have my deaf dad play with me. We played through all of DKCR and the first few worlds of DKTF together, but because of the fast paced nature of the game we rarely communicate during gameplay. Are there any better multiplayer wii u games for deaf people to play? I also have a pc, but I doubt there would be better local coop games on it.
Nintendo Land has co-op Zelda, Metroid, and Pikmin. They're not too fast paced so you should be able to communicate with him at some points during the game. Hyrule Warriors also has co-op but I've only played single player so I don't know what it's like. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U has co-op event matches, though I don't know how long they'll last you.
Thanks! I've played all these games, but I realize what I was really hoping for was a game where you could take your hands off the controller for a bit. I guess and turn based strategy games would work for that.
Maybe something like Mario vs. DK(an upcoming game for Wii U) would work. You can create stages, then have your dad go through them. There aren't that many turn based strategy games with multiplayer, unfortunately. You could also play Child of Light. Someone controls Aurora and her party, while someone controls the little light thing(I think his name is Ignious or something) that assists the team.

As for retail titles, Pikmin 3 might fit your bill, but that's about it. Many games rely on audio cues, making it a bit difficult for deaf people to really enjoy them.
But I can definitely recommend Advance Wars! Since it's not only turn-based, but also has savestates, you can quit at pretty much any point and pick it up again later. There are a lot of pre-built maps, and even a map creator to truly go haywire with, and it's suitable for up to 4 players!
@SCAR392 You mean Igniculus? That's kinda boring, though. And to use him effectively, communication would be at least somewhat important.
Indeed, Advance Wars is on the Wii U VC if I'm not wrong.
It's a GBA game, but an excellent one, and is the best turn-based strategy on Nintendo platforms in my opinion (I don't play Fire Emblem so don't hate me!), well worth a look.
On the PC there is Portal 2 which has a separate co-op mode (local was patched in but I believe you need a controller). I think the nature of the gameplay would allow for easier communication. The game also has closed captions which helps with sound effects and audio clues.
A bit of a strange suggestion maybe but Wind Waker is a good choice. It doesn't have a coop but I really enjoyed playing through it with my buddy. Id play most of it but hr could take the controls if he felt like it or if a boss was proving a struggle wed switch or sometimes there were bits only one of us could do and of course two heads helps with the dungeon puzzles. I would suggest wind waker over other similar games though simply because while sailing about it its fun to talk about what your doing it about legend of Zelda in general.
