I would never again recommend buying anything at gamestop. Sure their second hand market got nice bargains. But as cheap their offers are as cheap is their service. I never buy hardware used, because then i dont have any warranty nor a solid feeling the thing would last for years to come.
So i thought why not try the gamestop deal with the trade in for 3Ds XL.
short story:
The XL obviously was new. It had a internal screen problem. Gamestop refused to take any actions. No replacement or refund was possible.
That day gamestop lost another customer.
Just my 2 cents: Never buy new hardware on gamestop. Better even never ever again buy something at gamestop.
Choose a shop, which you really trust and which wont fail you at new hardware faults. ( for example faulty monday productions or first year tech problems)
Thankfully there are oh so many other options available.

cheers

Umm...why didn't you send it to Nintendo? Gamestop would be helpful if you had a warranty or something, but Nintendo would have fixed that up in two weeks tops.

Besides, I trust my GameStop. I've only gotten faulty used games because they were in the little CD cases and no one cared if they scratched them up.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

After I get this console, I'm done as well. I had decided I was finished with them after my PS3 Max Payne 3 was buggy (crashed and deleted EVERYTHING during final boss) and they didn't do anything about it, but knowing Wii U reserves wouldn't be available long, I went to the first, closest retailer who said "yes we still have reserves available".
On a side note, when I asked if they had a limited number available, I was told "lord no man! However many people want em, we'll have em. Come on down here!" -_- Yeah right, GameStop.

Do I even play?

@ kyuubikid213 are u kidding me ?
the console was BRAND NEW = 1 week old
of course it had warranty and EVERYTHING.
So gamestop is pleased to take your money, but they wont work for it or provide any sort of service or customer compliance.
Yes i send it to nintendo and they did repair it cause of warranty. But sure gamestop doesnt care if u got problems. I can understand that with second hand. But the console was brand new , one week old.
Sheesh. I wish u luck HD_visor.
But as i stand i wont buy anything at gamestop ever again. Even if they throw WIIUs out at bargain prices like 100 bucks and games for 10 bucks. Morals cant top economical thoughts.
I just warned you all. IF u follow an advise is completely up to you. But dont come back crying with ur brandnew WIIu which got scratches on the hyped gamepad and gamestop laughs at you.

cheers

When I bought my Vita I was told by EB Games (Australia's GameShop) that if there was a problem go straight to Sony.

Whether or not you think GameShop are entitled to giving you a refund or replacing your system, (which they probably weren't as you didn't pay full price for it, rather you traded in stuff for it (which would mean them replacing it/refunding would be losing money)) they are not the only option. You have the option to send it into Nintendo, and you chose not to.

Not anyones fault but your own.

you seem to really not read at all.
I did send it to nintendo. ofc i did. What else would been left ?
The thing is just gamestop takes ur money happily, but avoids any hassle whatsoever. You may thing bla bla capitalism and efficency and devilish customers who suck the blood out of the merchants. And if anyone merchant invents an tradein or whatever for NEW hardware, well they should think twice if thats the right way to go. Ye maybe thats the dumbest decision you could make as an merchant. But then nobody is forcing a company to do such dubious advertising methods.
But clearly this is not the common practice at least not where i live. Well now i know their cheap advertisement and i am now warned. As i said there are plenty of options and i already relocated to a trusted vendor.

. I'm sorry but stores don't offer a warrantee on hardware purchases unless you pay extra for it. That goes with any store... Without a store bought warrantee your stuck with the warrantee that the company that made the hardware offers

Bestbuy is a good place to buy anything videogame related. The cashiers ask if I want a warranty on games every time I buy a game there. Systems are great there as well since the warranties are around $30. Warranties from stores don't usually take effect until the manufacture warranty finishes.

Are there any physical stores I can pre-order the deluxe at? I have a pre-order at Walmart online, but I don't want to have to wait for shipping.

^Why not CALL around? How would WE know if any "physical stores" near you have pre orders still available? For example, my local GameStop, 1 of 9 in a city with a population of 120,000 is sold out. But I'm more than certain the one where my brother lives (pop. 10,000) still has some available.

I'm sorry that you had bad experiences at GameStop, Stereoman. My GameStop does...pretty much whatever to keep me happy and maintain a profit without using a money-magnet. I went in there once with my brothers TOTAL CRAP DS and managed to get a decent amount for it. Also, we went back and substituted games on Buy 2 Get 1 Free deals like 6 times and they didn't care. I even went in there with a 360 I bought at Goodwill and they hooked it up for me and let me see if it worked (which it didn't).

Are you not a regular at your GameStop? I don't mean just like you only buy stuff from that one...I mean like...do you talk to the employees about their day? Learn their names? Donnie and Jason are the best, but Jason moved. I miss him, but Donnie's still awesome!

I don't think you should be required to learn the names of employees or be a 'regular' to get good service... that said, Stereoman, the warranty on the system is through Nintendo, so the retailer is certainly allowed to decline helping you out. Welcome to the world.

@wobee I didn't mean for it to come across like that because I get good service at most GameStops, I was just wondering if it could be helpful...

And yeah, that's another thing, Stereoman, did you purchase a GameStop warranty? You get one year free through Nintendo, but GameStop won't do anything unless you have their warranty.

Normally you shouldn't need to be married or the brother in law of a game store salesman to be threaded fairly and equally.
Oh and just ONe gamestop taking back crappy damaged DS for used sell. Hmm what do u think about the next customer who buys such inferior gadget?
I sure dont exploit second hand markets by such methods.
And i know that many shops offer customer service and goodwill. And no those shops are not yet out of business ( so there seems to be benefit from care).
And no the faulty 3Ds xl was not my fault. The fault was clearly seen as an production fault because there was no outer scratches or consumer done damage.
I even went to several shops to ask them about their repair or refund policy and guess what ? Gamestop was the only smelly fish in that area.
Fine for you if u get special conditions, but thats not how the world should work.
And yes a friend of mine works at a gamestop, but i would never bother him to get discounts. And he knows that gamestop is pure capitalism, so i cant blame him that he just wants to make a living. I for myself do strictly devide private and work life. Nice to meet friends at game stores, but i dont need partisanship.

most of the people who work at gamestoppo are great; my son used to be one. however, they have absolutely no say in store policies. some of those store policies suck. i also know for a fact that pre-order goodies DO come in as promised then quite often disappear when a customer comes in to get their game/item.

the 'warranties' offered by them and other stores are pretty much pure profit for them, which is why you can't exit a cashier without getting hit with the 'do you want the extended warranty with that?' line. if the manager doesn't hear those words, the employee is warned/terminated.

retail is tough work for the minions manning the counters, with the better ones who try to really take care of customers well burning out quickly.

@stereoman: the best return policy for electronics i have found is at Target: a 3 month, no-questions-asked return window.

Firstly, I'm not strictly saying that you HAVE to become the salesperson's best friend to get good service. I was just saying that people are naturally kinder to people that are familiar to them. That could possibly help.

Secondly, GameStop fixes broken electronics that are traded in. They fix them up and sell them. The next customer would have gotten a fully functioning DS Lite.

Third, I don't think I said anything about cheating the system and getting unfair discounts...

And lastly, you never stated whether or not you purchased a GameStop Warranty. GameStop doesn't care about the free Nintendo Warranty, if you don't put forth some extra cash, you don't get their assistance in that situation.

GameStop is the bane of the gaming industry. If you don't realize and understand that, you're either: A) an employee of their's, or B) oblivious

Also, I don't understand the whole "ERRRR! You didn't buy the GameStop extended warranty! HURRRRREEERRRR!" If I buy a Samsung TV at Walmart and it goes out after a month of use, I take it back to Walmart and get it exchanged, no hassle (true story).

i'm sorry but not all gamestops are the same. it comes down to the people who work there. I've never had any problems with hardware I've bought from them.

Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword

Yeah but it speaks volumes about a company when majority of complaints against said online all say the same things

the people who work at eb games and even gamestop are great... while they do try to upsell the stuff they are required to they dont force it on you.. as you know it really does not harm in asking... i often talk to them alot, and they are nice and knowledgeable about what they sell..
