Topic: Gamepad problem, "connection lost and/ or unstable"

hey, my Gamepad does not connect to the console if its not in the charging station or maybe 0.5 meter away sometimes.

I have been trying basic stuff like, on/off the console, on/off all electronic stuff and removing things with wi-fi, like smartphones and computers. I also moved the console and tried in another room but nothing seems to work.

I have been thinking of trying one last thing, re-booting the system. But i have 5 games on the internal harddrive and some very important save files. Is it correct that they are linked to my nintendo network id? So after, re-booting i just log in and the games will be available for download? What about the save files?

If anyone has any other solutions/ suggestions, please tell me and i will try.

I hope you can respect that english is not my native language. Im doing my best

Doesn't sound like a problem I'm familiar with, but I suggest giving Nintendo's tech support a phone call.

Something like this happened to me before. I think I turned the system off and on a few times and re-calibrated the gamepad and console, and it still didn't work. Then I turned the system off and tried it again a few hours later and it worked.

No idea what caused the issue or what resolved it.

@Krokodilen Games are linked to the Nintendo Network ID but the ID is linked to the console so rebooting (I assume you mean the "delete all content and settings" option in system settings) will delete all your games permanently, also all save files we be gone forever too. Sadly a result of Nintendo's poor account system so the only thing you can really do is to phone Nintendo customer support and get a repair if necessary if you want to keep your games.

Not saying this is a good solution, but would you not be able to just unlink, factory reset, then relink and redownload your games?

Save files would still be gone though.

I've heard this problem quite a few times before. If you are still under warranty, it's probably best to send it to Nintendo for repair. If the problem does right itself, it may happen again at a later date, when your warranty has expired, then you're paying a hefty fee to Nintendo to fix it.

I advise you to try following the steps here: http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_...

Is the Wii U "Always On"? I assume it is. One thing I found with my "Always On" consoles is that when something is wrong, sometimes you need to turn the thing off all the way. Turning off my Xbox One does not truly turn it off. To do that I need to hold the power button until it truly goes off. This has alleviated a lot of problems I have had with most consoles.

Considering the OP moved the console I would assume this is not the problem, unless the Wii U has some sort of battery back up? I doubt that though.

Thanks everyone, very helpful. I will contact nintendo and the company i bought the system from later today.

I just have one more question, dont think its necessary starting a new thread.
Its about the PRO controller. When ever i play a game and pause it, after maybe 5 minutes or less this message appear: "the controller connection has been lost", or something like that, not 100% sure.

It has been like that ever since i got it. Its not so disturbing really but if im sending the wii u in, i just as well also send the PRO controller and maybe get a new one. What do you guys think?

*bought the wii u and pro controller 11 months ago. The problem with the gamepad started some days ago and the thing with the pro controller has allways been there.

Not sure if the Pro controller works the same as the Wii Remotes, but after being inactive for a while they will give that message. So it may not be a fault of the controller itself.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

My gamepad failed to connect to my Wii U at the end of January. I had to set up a repair and have my Wii U + Gamepad sent off to Nintendo. When I got it back, my gamepad was working ....all except I couldn't power on my console using the gamepad's power button nor does the Quick Start Menu work now. I sent it back to Nintendo to get that fixed and they said they couldn't duplicate my problem.

I revived this old thread to discuss my situation in detail. Good luck, @Krokodilen.

I assume its just saving you battery charge is all. My wireless controller on the X1 will go off after a while. If I am in a game it will say please reconnect a controller. Its just a normal thing that happens to save battery and I assume that is what is happening here. Unless I am reading that wrong and its happening while your using it.

I remember my Wii U would lose connection so many times but it stopped after I blew air in the vent with the fan which in the back of the console.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

Yep that's exactly right, the Wii Remotes do the exact same thing: lights go off after a period of inactivity. Just press a button and you're back in business. Depending on your settings the Gamepad screen should also dim as should your TV.
