Hey, just thinking what can the gamepad be used for anyways? I don't have a wii u and I'm not really that creative. Here's mine
Mario kart or some similar game: you now have ultimate control over using items. Forget forward Or backwards- now aim anywhere on screen. Possible with gamepad and to a lesser extent wiimote and nunchuck.
Super Mario Galaxy HD: use touch screen to gather starbits, I guess hold a button to change that to firing them (like CAPSLOCK).. Not really creative.
That's kind of it. I'm not that good imagining things like this. But just to be clear I think the nsmbu approach was the wrong way, something that could have been done with wiimotes and nunchucks better anyway.

That Mario Kart idea is really good, but I would also like buttons to throw items the traditional way, just in case you need it super quickly. Implementing both would be super cool.

How about this for:
F-Zero: "Tentative Existence"
Customizing cars, colours, shapes made easy. This would also make track-creation a snap. However, as the F-Zero series isn't known for custom tracks... it would be better suited to a game like "Excitebike U".

The Mario Kart idea isn't bad, but it would give the G-Pad player an advantage. When I got to play the demo, in the summer, the only extra thing the G-Pad could do was Honk. Playing with the Wii-Mote is not easy; I'd have vouched for standard controls, after that affair.... Another good idea for it's use, might be to warn you of incoming items (Which side they are on, look of for a banana peel!), or even be used as a rear-view mirror.

I'd like to say : I hope there is no Such game as Mario Galaxy: HD. Sure, have a new Mario Galaxy, but not an HD Remake! And I'd Call it Super Mario: Universe (That title would suit the Wii U soooooo well). I'm doing a lot of repeating from the recent Feature... Anyway, The G-Pad could be used in that game many ways, like item selection, FPV (as in SM3DW), manipulation of obstacles, enemies...

It's really hard to come up with unique ideas for the Gamepad because there's very little that's unique about it, about 90% of the Gamepad's features have been done on previous consoles.

I have one idea for a Metroid Prime style game, you use the Gamepad for visors (except the Combat Visor). Scan Visor would be controlled by pointing the Gamepad at the screen and then using the Touch Screen to select the item you wish to scan, and unlike in past games, the game wouldn't pause while you're reading scans, so if you're trying to scan an enemy for instance, you have to dodge it while you're scanning. Also, when you use the Command Visor, you not only need to set the target, but use the Gamepad to control the ship.

I have pitched it a million times before but I say make pokemon snap and use the gamepad as a camera that you mover around to take a picture.

Usually the best ideas are the ones that you don't notice. So the games that use the bottom screen on the 3DS best have been games like Zelda, Pokemon, Animal Crossing and Mario Kart. If you ever find yourself thinking how the game used a particular feature it's that game that used the feature well.

On the Wii U I'd argue that the stand out examples would be Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD and Nintendo Land. There are other games that use it well but not to the extent that these ones did IMO. The unique thing about the Wii U is that it's possible to use it as a multiplayer feature. So if we were talking Mario Kart I'd say the best idea would be to have a local-multiplayer four against one battle mode type game.

Here's where it shows why the Wii U is such a flawed concept... Your idea is pretty nice, but it can't be implemented in a game like Mario Kart because local multiplayer is an important component to it..... you cannot use the gamepad in any way that really impacts gameplay because only one of the players would have gamepad..... The developers of Super Smash Bros also confirmed that the game would not use the touchscreen for gameplay for this very reason...... I've been saying this from day one.... Assymetric play is a thing Nintendo has been tried to pass as a feature in order to hide the fact that the gamepad hinders the traditional symmetric local multiplayer Nintendo has been known of.... You cannot even use multiple gamepads even if the touchscreen is not used for anything... Have a neighbor who also owns a Wii U and want to play local multiplayer? you cannot use each other gamepads for that somebody needs to go and buy an additional controller.......

The best use for the gamepad I can think of is making possible a true console version of Football Manager, I think Football Manager U could be Wii U's killer app in the UK and thought it was gonna happen when SI released a t-shirt for animal crossing but since the Vita version of Football Manager Classic has fell from the face of earth I think a Wii U version is not gonna happen

Now that you mention it, it would be interesting if when you've got a red or a blue shell you could just tap the one you want to get hit on the second screen.
That could easily end up making the game very unfair though.

yeah I can see everyone aiming at the same person the whole race to make it lose. maybe they could make it a special move that needs to be charged or that can be used only once per race. or just leaving the red and blue shells out of this, anything else wouldn't harm too much by simply having aim or making so the last place can't be a target
