This may already be possible through other means that I can't discuss on these forums
Unfortunately that means you'll have to find out how to do so yourself
But perhaps some company will make a third party gamepad in the future that allows you to use it as a classic controller in Wii mode....unlikely...but who knows
Hmm, oh well. As far as the amount of games compatible with them is the Wii classic or the Wii classic pro controller the one to go with?
They are the same controller per say, just the pro is more ergonomic. It's useful to have one though, as they can be used for a lot of Wii U games too.
For Wii Classic/Pro controller games I'd recommend Xenoblade, The Last Story, Sin & Punishment 2, Muramasa, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, No More Heroes 2, Sakura Wars, Rune Factory Fontier, Sonic Colors, NBA Jam, Sky Crawlers, Endless Ocean 2, A Boy and His Blob, Dokapon Kingdom, Kirby Dream Collection and Mario Allstars.
I'm sure somewhere down the line there will be an update that will let you do this. As of right now, you can at least use it as another screen to play off of.
