Honestly, if it was almost anyone else, I would bury it for being really hackneyed sounding. Comparing a console to Virtual Boy is just stupid, even if you are right, even if I agree with you, it's still pathetic. 1. Batteries
Ok, however this also applies to the PSP, original 3DS and pretty much any portable that wasn't called DS Lite or GameBoy. The Virtual Boy was one of the worst offenders sure and the Wii U could easily be better. However personally, because of the way I use the thing, I haven't actually run into many issues with Wii U battery life. Also lithium battery packs are hardly as much of a pain as 6x AAs. Frankly the DS Lite and the Wii U Pro Controller are basically the only things I've ever had where battery life was an absolute non issue.

2. cost
Well ok, people do argue that the Wii U could be cheaper. However the reality is that on the market it's about in the middle. In terms of actual cost it's about the same price or less than the Wii was at launch. AU RRP it's $200AU for a an entry level 360, $260AU for a PS3, $300AU for a Wii U, $550AU for a PS4 and $600AU for a XBOne. So more expensive than what exactly? Especially when looking into the internet archives and seeing that the Wii in early 2008, a year after launch, was selling for $400AU and a 40GB PS3 was at $700AU.

3. rushed
Of all the things the Wii U is rushed isn't one of them. What it's doing tech wise is hardly experimental stuffs or "broken" in any way. It's doing the same old thing Nintendo tends to do lately. They take established and mature tech and find new ways to use it. Also it's litterally them going for broke, it's not a "third pillar" strategy. This IS their next console, if anything was a "third pillar" like the Virtual boy in the last decade it was the original DS not the Wii U. Also the thing has no hope of making my eyes bleed unlike, for example, the 3DS might have.

Plus their only evidence for them claiming it was "rushed" was a series of quotes of Nintendo basically saying "no comment" when asked about "Wii HD". Hey Retro, are you working on something? "no comment". Ok, so whatever they're making next they haven't started even thinking about yet. Right? Oh wait, you have something now? DON'T RUSH IT GUYS!

4, 5 & 6. "No Games"
Ok, you could make that argument about each if you wanted. However saying "hey, they're both bad, it's the same!" is a bit of a stretch. It's an entirely different magnitude we're talking about here. Also the third party complaint while reasonable is something you could apply to pretty much every single Nintendo console ever made. Also right now the PS4 is selling fantastically despite the fact that it's library is looking very anaemic right now.

The difference the ps4 has promised many games, while nintendo is pretty bare bones right now. Aside from MK8, Bayo, Yoshi, X, and SSB4, there's basically no games coming for the rest of the year, and it looks like next to no third parties either. Hopefully e3 will have a new zelda, retro's new project, something from platinum that's been secret, along with another secret game.

I didn't say that wasn't the case, it certainty is. My point was that there's more to it than just the size of the library or even the expectation of a large/broad library of games. Before the Wii U launched it did look like third parties were going to take it much more seriously than they eventually did. It definitely was in a better spot than the 3DS was and it's nowhere near as bad as the Virtual Boy was.

It's ridiculous that people rant about how it "doesn't have any games" when they then happily rattle off a list of 5-10 exclusives. Especially when comparing it to the Virtual Boy, a console which only had not that many more games than that in total. Or saying that it would have done better if it had the PS4's launch lineup that was about as big but had Resogun as the big exclusive instead of New SMB U, Nintendo Land and Zombi U...........

If I wanted to I could pick on the PS4 in the same way that the people in the video did. Finding things that the Virtual Boy did wrong and trying to link them to things that the PS4 also did in some way. If I did that I would be just as wrong as the people in the video were. It's just be more obvious because the PS4 is doing pretty well right now.

of course the video doesn't mention the current state of the xbone. Why is this important you ask? when using ps4 as an example based solely on sales you should always bring up the system in the back of the line. Xbox One did very different things then ninty but are in the same pickle.

There's some valid points in the video and its obvious that Nintendo made some huge mistakes with the Wii U, but the beating a dead horse thing when ppl continue to talk about how bad the Wii U is selling is getting kind of stale at this point. The sad thing is that its only going to get worse during these droughts and as the Xbone/PS4 lap it several times.

The Xbone is selling MUCH better than the Wii U so I'm really not sure what you're talking about. Being outsold by the PS4 at this point in time doesnt mean its bombing like Nintendo's console is. It also has things like 3rd party support going for it.

Actually, the XB One's sales numbers, at this point are only marginally better than those of the Wii U. They've almost evened out entirely, and while a few thousand units over the Wii U may seem like a good enough lead, at first, the PS4 is outselling them both painfully.

Marginally better means a lot when the console was released a full year after the Wii U. So to say the Xbone is doing just as bad is false. The PS4 is indeed selling much better than both of them but let's not get carried away here.

Yes, but at the current moment, that year head start is irrelevant. If the Wii U doesn't get above the XB1, then Microsoft will eventually overtake them in sales, and if neither of them get better sales, soon, then we've got another painfully one-sided generation where Sony takes everything, the shovelware rains down on the PS4, and the poor Wii U and Xbox One get entirely ignored until late 9th gen.

That's not even remotely true. Consoles tend to sell best the first two or three montths after launch and then between 2 and 5 years /after/ launch. Nintendo is just as much in the null zone as the PS4 and XB1. The only difference is that the PS4, much like the Wii, last gen, isn't acting like it's in the null zone. It's soaring and leaving the other two behind in its dust.

Uhh no they don't.
Most consumers wait a while before buying next gen systems. Either due to wanting to wait for a price drop or more interesting games to be released on the system. If what your saying is true then the PS3 would have been a complete flop...and it wasn't.

The year head start is completely relevant to what you said, to be fair. The Xbox One has been out for 4 months, and the Wii U has been out for a year longer. That the Xbox One is already overtaking it says a lot.

People down the Virtual Boy quite alot, but the system actually had some decent games. In no way does it compare to the wii u though. I want to know WHY the PS4 is selling so well. I have an x-box 1 in the house but i see one flaw with it from the 360 and that is: KINECT STILL SUCKS!! Otherwise, all three of these systems are just getting started and when we get at least 3 years in with them maybe I'll worry about sales numbers. Besides, i get way more entertainment from my wii u than the x-box so i think it'll go fine.

@MAN1AC @8bitSamurai I'm not entirely sure either of you know how numbers work. I'm also seeing that you've forgotten that there's an exception to every rule, and there's no better exception than when a console doesn't release everywhere at once, causing the launch day jumps to stagger.

MAN1AC, the Wii's best sales EVER was within the first month or two, in which the Wii sold well over 6 million units. More than the Wii U's entire life sales, even given its impressive 2.5 million kickstart. The PS3 had a big jump, when it launched in Europe, pushing it up 3 million units months after launch. Its release cycle was also very irregular, causing much of its better sales to be later in the generation. The Xbox 360 and Wii, however, portrayed this pattern splendidly with the only difference being that the 360 kept going up, when the Wii ran out of steam.

Launch month sales are always some of the biggest monthly sales a console is gonna get, except for cases of staggered launches, like the PS3 and PS4. Beyond that, people, as you said, wait until interesting games come to the console, or the price drops. There's a lot of these people, but their opinions on "interesting games" and "cheap enough" differ greatly.

8bit, I was talking about weekly/monthly sales, not overall sales. Overall, the XB1 has yet to overtake the Wii U, and their numbers have only be slowly rising, neck and neck, for the past month, or so.

The PS4 is selling primarily on hype and empty promises. Are there games coming? Absolutely. Are they anything you needed a PS4 for? Not in the slightest, aside from inFamous. The reason the PS4 is selling so well is simple. Sony pulled of pre-launch perfectly. They learned from last gen's mistakes and saved themselves from serious financial trouble. (Well, not yet, but it's certainly looking good for them, isn't it?)

As for the Kinect, honestly, it doesn't suck at all. Gamers just aren't fond of abnormal control schemes. We've standardized things, so anything not standardized tends to turn us off. Second, no one's developing for the Kinect because of the previous reason. Third, the first one was a bit finicky, so people don't expect the new one to be any different, even if it is. I still think Microsoft made a foolish move bundling it with the XB1, though. Then again, no one really would've bought it, otherwise.

actualy it's only outselling by about 25 thousand a week. they are a new console just barely selling more than a year and a half console thats considered a failure even with third partys on board. think about that.

My experience with Kinect has been pretty bad to the point where i have to unplug it. I started getting technical fouls for cussing when I coughed or was trying to call out plays, and It would call for a medic and ammo for no reason with Battlefield. I don't think its deal breakers for the whole system, but the commercials sure made it look good at launch. Nintendo just needs more games, thats the complaint i hear most of on MiiVerse and most sites. I do believe the PS4 is somewhat overhyped, but i haven't touched the thing so i can't complain about it.

What? Technical fouls for cursing? XD That's the most ridiculous... Who would program something like that! XD

Also, Dance Central is easily the best example of Kinect design done right. Now, if we can just get it to work for something that's not so painfully niche, we may be getting somewhere!
