hello everyone just wondering how everyones game pad battery is holding up? ive had mine since last christmas now but recently noticed the battery life seems to have gotten alot worse i started playing some mario when i got in from work at about quarter past 5. now at 8 ive noticed the flashing light. thats only 2 hours and 45 mins off use.

anyone elses the same? its pretty annoying considering its only one year old.

put it on.

Ya, my battery life has gone down a bit, too. If you live in UK, you can buy a battery that ups it to around 8 hours. The longer lasting battery is bigger than the one that came with ours.

If it was available in the U.S., I'd buy it. That's what we get for being early adopters, I suppose.

yeah thanks man i was planning on getting one, just not so soon. bit disapointing really i cant belive its under 3 hours. i always have it in the charging cradle and its always on, i assumed thats what i was supposed to do tho. you think it would be better turning it off over night and stuff once i get the new one.

put it on.

Haven't got one myself yet but the best place seems to be Amazon and I've heard its good quality. Also what settings have you got on while playing as that may be why its so short.

Edit: Or it can be brought direct from Nintendo.

Leaving it on the charge dock doesn't effect the battery life. It will only charge it when it needs to. The only thing effecting the battery life is how many times you've charged it.

I've charged mine well over 200 times that I've gotten it. Lithium ion batteries decrease in power by about 10-15% from every 200 charges or so. That would knock the battery life down by a noticeable amount within a year. It just got more noticeable once it hit a certain mark. It's actually been going down by 10 or so seconds every time we charge it, but that builds up to 30 minutes over the course of a year, then we're like "WTF".

Hopefully this makes sense.

GotWiiD

the battery life is terrible tbh.

I purchased the battery from Amazon. I would recommend it to anyone who has Wii U. I haven't had an orange light warning at all, where before I would always need to recharge before I had finished a gaming session

While this advice doesn't apply to the Nintendo battery linked on Amazon, I'll post it anyway as I know it's always tempting to pick up a cheap 3rd party battery over a licensed one: please resist this temptation. Cheap batteries/chargers are horribly dangerous, thrown together out of whatever bits are lying about and have, at best, next to no safety features. Always spring for the official one that will have undergone severe testing in your country. Whenever you hear about phones 'exploding' on the news, it's generally traced back to cheap chargers/batteries. It's not worth saving a few $ over.

I can honestly say that I've never had a problem with it. I've never come close to having my Gamepad run out of battery. If you sit and do nothing but play video games for 3 straight hours, you need to have your controller die so you can go outside and do something else.

I completely agree. Nintendo will tell you that you're SOL if 3rd party devices mess up your stuff. I'd rather not risk it and buy the better(95% of the time), COVERED, product.

It's ultimately whoevers' decision, but whatever...

@Xyphon22
What if it's 7 degress or lower, outside?

My battery was bad from the beginning, and it's still bad. I get four hours on the lowest brightness level with volume off.

That's how long it's supposed to last.

Notice the date. That's why alot us never cared about such complaints. We knew what we were buying, and it was all to to keep system costs down, and no one understood(or understands) that. It's the exact same case with the HDD space; to cut costs. If you want more HDD space, you'll go buy more HDD space.

@burningspear thats pretty good still mate like i said mines down to about 2 and 3 quarter hours. i could deal with 4 hours i think.

Mine is still somewhat new and lasts around 3-4 hours. It's a poor battery life but I can understand why it's so poor with that screen attached to it. Although by the looks of things I got a poor battery woth mines from the start.

The best way to keep your tablet battery life healthy as possible, although it's not a realistic way of doing it... let the tablet discharge completely and then charge it to full to keep a full cycle. As I say, easier said than done, I think I’d rather replace the battery when the charge cycles are depleted and im tired of it always being plugged in.

I love Nintendo, Sony & Microsoft - why? I am a true gamer.

Sean_Aaron

I got Nintendo's high capacity battery and although I've only had occasion to play all day a couple of times the insurance of added time is nice. What I'd like to see now is a battery charger so I can use the original battery as a standby one just in case!

This doesn't apply to the Lithium Ion batteries we use now, it was recommended for older rechargeable batteries back about 10 years ago which had a problem with memory retention. It's a good idea to let the battery drain completely once a month or so, but there's absolutely no issue with putting the GamePad back onto its charging cradle when you're done using it, regardless of discharge.

I've never seen it as much of an issue. I always keep it charged so I rarely give it a chance to run itself out. Plus the few times I've had a low battery I've either just grabbed the AC adapter and kept going or swapped to the Pro Controller. If it becomes more of an annoyance as Nintendo starts putting out more titles that aren't 10-30mins here and there friendly and do use the GamePad heavily then I might get the larger battery.

Right now though I'm ok with how it is.

HappyHappyist

i haven't sen it as an issue either. my siblings and i often leave it out of the charger for hours, and it will still ALWAYS have a full battery.

i am part of a social group interested in uniting the world by painting it blue.

I've had the Wii U since launch and the battery is just fine.

I've only seen the red light on the controller twice, and I use my console every day. Sometimes I play 3-4 hours, and I never see the red light.
