I believe Wooly World was revealed so far in advance for the same reason Xenoblade and Genei Ibun Roku #FE were: to instill buyer confidence in the system after flagging launch sales. I don't think that Direct would have ever happened if Wii U was a success out of the gate.

@rjejr: Wasn't Pikmin 3 meant to be a Wii U launch title though and just got delayed by 9 months?

@Octane: I don't believe anything Ntinedo says and it serves me pretty well. If they are really planning on only showing off games 2 months before release they might as well get out of the business. Also, if Pikmin 4 or Paper Mario (sorry, forgot which game we were talking about, but either will suffice) were due to come out at the end of May, wouldn't that fall under Reggie's "extending into the first half of the following year". June 30th is the end of the first half, end of May is well within that. Gamers have a certain amount of money, they plan on spending so much in advance on GOW or GoW or Halo or COD or Madden or MK or SSB. you just can't announce that you are making a $60 game and release it 2 months later without much fanfare and expect it to sell. How well have Fatal Frame and Devil's Third sold? Or AC:aF or Mario Tennis Ultra Smash? Nintendo has nothing long term for Wii U except Zelda U. If they are making Pikmin 4 and Paper Mario as $60 games they should announce them once production gets well underway.

Know what Nitneod games sell really well? Pokemon games on 3DS. Pokemon games get announced early in the year and release during the holidays, with tons of promotion throughout the year. That's the way the industry works - announce in advance, market, sell. Even Pokemon Go has 6 months or more notice.

Nintendo is out of their minds if they think people are going to buy an NX console if they are only going to announce games such as SSB and MK only 2 months before they release.

@Grumblevolcano: Launch "window" Pikmin 3 basically took forever to release. I don't know who well it sold, but they came out w/ at least 3 DLC packs for it, which in the pre-SSB days was a lot for Ntineod. If Pikmin 4 is coming out on Wii U any time before E3 I wish they would have said something last year so Icoudl have set aside $60 for it, right now we are pretty spent on Pokken Tournament, R&C and Uncharted 4. We were considering TP HD but decided the money was better spent elsewhere. Both my boys and I really like Pikmin, and I would like a heads up before release.

Many Nintneod just has it's panties in a bunch b/c we complain when they delay games so now they arne't announcing games until they are ready to release, rather then just announcing them w/o dates? That's completely idiotic, but I woudln't put it past them.

@rjejr: Nah, don't worry, I wasn't arguing that Pikmin 4 could be released around May, I think that's a stretch for Paper Mario as well. My point I was trying to make was more geared towards the idea that they should've shown Pikmin 4 last E3 when they said it was nearing completion. They can still reveal and release a game in the same year. I don't know when we get a Direct, but the first Direct of the year usually brings some new games, Paper Mario and Pikmin 4 are likely candidates; Both games are about done, Paper Mario is in the localisation phase (if the rumour is true, which it probably is) and Pikmin 4 was nearing completion last year.

Announcing a game two months before its release is indeed ridiculous (but remember that May is 4 months away still), but games like TP:HD and Pokkén weren't mentioned during E3 last year and they are coming pretty soon. The announcements are definitely more short-term than what they usually did before. Of course, games like Mario Kart 8 and Smash will be announced far ahead of their respective release, they're system sellers. A game like Kirby? That can easily do with 4 to 6 months.

About May 29/30, it's not a rule, we may very well not see a game in May this year.

Probably Wii U version of Mario & Sonic Rio.

They said it'll release in spring, so they'll probably release that game on the day before the summer solstice, not as early as the last days of May. Unless ofcourse they meant Spring in the southern hemisphere, then it won't release for another six months after that.

I don't think @rjejr has a good point regarding the lack of coverage. As has already been pointed out, Pokken Tournament and TPHD weren't shown off at E3. And we're getting those in two months. I don't see why a game couldn't be announced in March and released in May.

Now, I WILL grant that MK8 and Splatoon were announced at E3 the year before, but neither 2013 nor 2014 were preceded with the acknowledgement that they won't be highlighting games from next year.

Regardless, let's talk predictions:

TPHD and Pokken tournament are slated for March. I don't think that'll change.
SFZ is an April release. I don't think that's gonna change, either.
Mario and Sonic seem like a likely May release. Maybe not "the big May release," but a May release.
Project Guard/Giant Robot I suspect will find their way into a mini-game collection released either late this year or as the last "major game" in the Wii U's life cycle.
Paper Mario U could be real. We'll probably see it at E3, if it is with an intended Summer launch that will likely not localize until October.
Zelda U will launch in November. If it doesn't, Nintendo is officially committing suicide with the Wii U. They can't afford to push it back any further.
So with all this in mind, I suspect the big May slot will be taken by SMTxFE, but that's just my guess. Either that or Mario and Sonic will fill it cause nothing else can.

@UGXwolf: "I don't see why a game couldn't be announced in March and released in May."

Well I guess I misunderstood the implied intent of this thread as I was thinking what "big" game would be released end of May. Yes any number of games could be announced in March and sold in May - I think some Ninty dev is working on a free-to-start amiibo game they haven't announced yet - or Pushmo 3. Even a retail title like Nintnedo Land 2. But if we are talking the caliber of Spaltoon or Mario Kart - a potential million seller - then no, I don't think a "big" game could be announced in March and sold in May.

I do like your SMT x FE idea, seems likely, though I'm not sure how well that will sell either, seems kind of niche to me, and I play JRPGs. And the knew name - Genei Ibun Roku ♯FE - probably isnt going to draw in too many newcomers. That's almosts a bad as Miitomo.

Well I suppose I should just let this thread die, but the SFZ delay "rumour" got me thinking end of May game, so here I am.

Well that and the new layout, which I think I like, but I also think I hate, overall it's a very modern design, but too much white and the blue is too subtle.

@rjejr: They should have a dark theme at least. I hope it is an issue on the European end and no for the game in general.

Mario and Sonic Rio is my guess.

@Grumblevolcano: So, did we get a late May game yesterday? Lots of dates for an ND. Kirby is June 10th. Is Weird Mirage hashtag thing end of May? I'll research more later, my dinner is done cooking.

Upon further review, the late May game is...

Disney Art Academy - May 13.

Man, there are so many games coming out I don't even want to type them all out.

I do think Metroid Prime: FF could be a late May game. Toyko Mirage Sessions #FE is June 24.

@rjejr: Maybe Nintendo will be revealing the NX in May, Microsoft did that with the XB1 in 2013. A few weeks before E3 fully unveiling the system and then the actual E3 event showcasing nothing but games.

I always figured NX ND in early May w/ SFZ being the end of spring Wii U on April 22. That gives them a month of promoting the hardware before E3 June 14-16. And besides Xbox as you pointed out Sony did the same thing w/ a Feb 20th hardware reveal of PS4 then games at E3.

Though now both TMS#FE and M&S Rio Olympics are on Wii U in June. Both on June 24 b/c Nitendo continues to smoke crack. Though I suppose minimal cross-over for those 2. But I still don't like games releasing a week after E3, b/c then everybody is so focused on new E3 games they forget about games due out that soon after.

And to further muddy the tar black ND waters now we have Paper Mario 2016 and Zelda U still to come. (I hear Aonouma mentioned it, but I haven't watched that vid yet.) Now I suppose 9/11 would make a nice 1 year SMM anniversary date for Paper Mario, and Zelda U in Oct, then NX in November w/ Zelda NX port. but that's getting awfully crowded at years end.

So now I feel like I'm back at NX square one and I don't know anything anymore.

Hey @ThomasBW84 how about a Talking Point on what that great ND Thursday and particularly Paper Mario Colour Splash on Wii U could mean for an NX release in 2016? Pretty please.

I enjoyed rereading this entire thread if only for the Mighty #9 comments. Still not out yet @jariw you were right.
