I read the Iwata Asks on Fire Emblem Awakening, and read about how they may have set it on Mars. I know it sounds stupid. But I'll admit, I would love to see that idea come to fruition in the form of a futuristic Fire Emblem game.

Imagine having lightsabers, or beam axes, or guns, or electrostaffs. And then using turrets instead of ballistas. Granted, there may have to be some changes made to the game because of the futuristic setting. Maybe the ability to target and attack multiple foes at once. I don't know what kind of magic they would use, maybe electricity and ice? Anyways, I think it would be sick to have a futuristic Fire Emblem game. Thoughts?

Is there to was though when even at like of than with it?

Games I'm playing: Xenoblade Chronicles, Trauma Center: Second Opinion, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked

I would honestly hate this. IS can go ahead and make this game if they want, but they should call it something else.

What, like full moons, silver bullets, and eyebrows that join in the middle?

You should check out Shadowrun Returns if you can. I wish this game would come to Wii U

I personally prefer the medieval fantasy setting but would at least give something like this a chance.

Or they could just make it a new ip. Or revive Famicom Wars and make it a new installment in that series....not that anyone remembers it.

Advance Wars is a continuation of Famicom Wars so is Battalion Wars to a lesser extent.

You could always try Rebelstar: Tactical Command for the GBA.
It is like FE gameplay with guns, and what I found to be a really fun game.

That would be sick(ening). So no thanks. :)
Franchises set in a certain time period jumping between dates doesn't appeal to me. If you want a strategy game with a futuristic setting there are plenty out there.

Fire Emblem 40K. It'd be something new, for sure.

A futuristic setting sounds better for the Famicom / Advance Wars series. An updated Advance Wars for the Wii U with a futuristic setting sounds like it could be cool.

Any one you can get your hands on. They are only really connected gameplay wise and bave the same enviroments but the stories are basically separated, except maybe the GameCube and Wii ones I think that is a straight up sequel

I think the FE7 (just called 'Fire Emblem' in English-speaking regions) for GBA is a pretty good entry point. It's quite newb-friendly with its extended prologue and has all of the basic mechanics that serve as a foundation for future games. As a huge fan of the entire series though, I think the new one, Awakening, is the best in the series overall and it is quite newb-friendly too, especially with its casual mode (Fire Emblem is notable for permanent death if you lose a unit in battle, casual mode in Awakening removes this).

And as @DefHalan said, most are standalone stories that you don't need prior knowledge to understand. The ones that are direct sequels mostly weren't released outside of Japan. Awakening is sort of a sequel to Shadow Dragon (the DS game, which is a remake of the first Fire Emblem), but it takes place 1000 years later, so only a few references are made. The Wii game is a direct sequel to the Gamecube game.

The medieval/fantasy setting is one of the things I like most about Fire Emblem, so no it doesn't sound very appealing to me. There are enough games that take the futuristic/sci-fi or modern route as it is. I like that the units are Paladins, archers, and pegasus/falco/draco knights rather than the usual modern military theme, and thats one of the things that makes the series stand out.

it'd work for Advanced Wars or a new IP but I think that kind of setting would just be turning the series on its head. Look at when they tried to make a "futuristic" Harvest Moon.

+1 I finished up the Dragonfall DLC last week and can definatley recommend this title. Its not aslong and open ended as fire emblem though and its a lot more mature.

Thanks for the game recommendations, y'all. It'd be cool seeing a futuristic Advance or Battalion Wars (although I've never played the former series) as well. But Fire Emblem, man! Imagine the music that'd come out of a sci-fi Fire Emblem! It would be totally crazy.

Oh, man. Day 1 buy just for the in-game music.

Dreaming, forever longing, that someday Nintendo would make a MOBA-type game.

Currently playing: League of Legends, Heroes of the Storm, Super Smash Bros. Kerfuffle (3DS), Mass Effect 3
Things I probably should be making progress on: Rune Factory 4, Mario Kart 8, Wind Waker HD, Gods Eater Burst
