Seems like you didn't even bother taking a look at those pictures before commenting. Too bad.

The UK pretty much follows the same trends as the rest of the Anglosphere (US, CAN, AU).

Almost makes up for the UK's complete and utter disinterest in the brand.

I agree. Plus it's cheaper to buy Nintendo retail games accessories and amiibos in Amazin France. I hope they open Nintendo France store and offer to sell in Italy too!

Wii Wii U? Ah-ha! I knew there was a vaguely offensive joke in there somewhere!

Seriously, though I never knew France supported Nintendo more than the UK. I wonder what the cause of the difference is. The French population is around 66 million, about 2 million more than in the UK, but for the purpose of estimating entertainment sales that's relatively negligible.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

The UK doesn't really have a favourite manufacturer. The console that is generally seen as the best, 360, PS2, PS1 etc usually comes out on top in the UK. The Wii was even the top seller until Nintendo pretty much abandoned it and allowed the 360 to catch up (just as it did in the US). MK Wii was the best selling console game until just a couple of weeks ago too when GTAV topped it. Doesn't sound like a biased market to me. People are talking about countries hating/supporting Nintendo, but everyone in every country will just buy what appeals to them.

The Wii U has sold just under 500,000 in France, and the UK will be a similar figure at this stage. PS4 is outselling it in both regions, by at least 2 to 1 :s People on here just love to hate on the UK for some reason, even though the UK has had more Wii U games in the top 10 chart than North America has.

I know the French are crazy about anime, I wonder if there's a connection. Quirky japanese stuff?

I remember France being the only place at the end of last year that had achieved what Nintendo hoped for.

Amen to that. UK really has terrible taste.

There is a country in Europe that actually likes Nintendo?

Trying to argue that the Wii U sells just as well in UK as it does in France is like saying that the Vita sells just as well as the 3DS in Japan, for real.

The more games in the top 10 stat is even more bizarre. The only game to break the top 10 in UK this year is Mario Kart 8. Smash was practically dead on arrival in UK, despite coming in 3rd in the Nov NPD. In 2013, two Wii U games broke the top 100 in the UK, NSMBU at #94 and SM3DW at #97.

Tropical Freeze - 9th (same as the US)

Hyrule Warriors - 3rd (not in the US top 10 at all)

Bayonetta 2 - 7th (not in the US top 10 at all)

And last year Wind Waker debuted 4th, Pikmin 3 debuted 2nd and Monster Hunter was 7th. None of these games showed up in the US top 10 at all. Tropical Freeze, MK8 and Smash are the only games to show up in the US top 10 since the Wii U was released.

Look at past Smash Bros games. It's always bombed in europe for some reason. I've never really cared for it. I'd trade 2 smash bros for a mario kart anyway.

Didn't know you were going by just launch week charts. That's a pretty limited scope and very easy to manipulate. Not mentioned in the Donkey Kong chart for example is how the games that placed higher than it came out weeks, sometimes months earlier. There are several 2013 games higher on that week's chart for Donkey Kong. Same goes for the rest of the weekly charts. Sales fluctuate wildly week-to-week and those charts are next to useless for actual data representation. You can't take the smallest sample size possible in the smallest window of release available and say that it's indicative of anything.

Only 2 Wii U games show up on the top 100 chart for 2013 and only 2 more will show up for 2014. Maybe. That's if Smash actually makes the cut, which isn't guaranteed.

Speaking of NL links, this was just posted on the main page. That's pretty damning, and a stark contrast to the numbers that Philippe Lavoué just published for France.

Always bombed in UK, not necessarily Europe as a whole. Smash Wii U + 3DS has sold about 2.2 million in North America and about 400k in France, which is a pretty much identical ratio with population.

Due to various reasons, the NES never really took off in the UK and Nintendo has suffered the consequences of that ever since. So the nostalgia factor does not play as big a role as in the USA or the rest of Europe.

What other charts do you want other than the weekly ones? Yearly ones are obviously going to be bad for the Wii U, but this would be the same for the US. Do you have a list of the top selling 100 games in the US last year because I don't remember seeing one. The Wii U user base is too small for any titles to have the classic Nintendo legs. Instead it's made up of the people that go out and buy day 1. This is again true in all regions, with games falling away pretty fast because there's nobody left to buy them.
