Seems like Nintendo has improved their Wii U image quite a bit in France since last year? For example, it seems like Smash U sells almost 10 times better in France than in the UK. And when I play MK8 regionally (in NoE territory) myself, there are always many players from France. And yesterday, the magazine Gamekult had their annual game awards (based on reader votes).
First, for a historical reference, the award for "best platform" a year ago:
France is notably Nintendo's biggest and most loyal European market. For example, Bayonetta 2 sold almost as well in France as it did in the US, with about 1/5th the population.
Almost makes up for the UK's complete and utter disinterest in the brand.
I never knew France has taken a liking to Nintendo. With this site's understandable focus on UK, one might get the impression that the whole Europe hates the big N.
Currently on the plate:
Mount and Blade: Warband – Napoleonic Wars
Chivalry
Super Mario 3D World – Finishing the last few levels.
Mario Kart 8
The UK seems to follow North American trends, while mainland Europe puts an emphasis on Sony, with Nintendo and Microsoft control a smaller market with both appealing to different consumers (dudebros and families).
Actually, I was under the impression the UK was Xbox turf. But, yes UK is mostly an atypical market for Europe. Europe is mostly Sony with some big countries like France that always had a great tradition of Nintendo systems.
Most of the European contingent when I play MK7 are from France and Germany and pretty much the same for MK8, very rare to see a UK flag next to a name when playing on them (exept for mine) to be honest
