Q: Do you feel Nintendo deserves the mess they are in (Wii U, and partially, 3DS) ? do you think they "are" in a mess?
A: Wii U is not selling as well as it deserves to. It has a lot to offer with great games you can't get anywhere else. The value of the GamePad hasn't been justified. But the name Wii U is abysmal. I think that cut sales in half right there.
well, ain't that what the fans have also been saying for a good while?

Should've went with Revolution, Nintendo....even if that was the Wii prototype name.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)
Agreed, I think name confusion really hampered things for the launch, worse name ever for a console (including the xbone - confusing as well and stupid looking when typed like that- two terrible names in the same generation)
Rimmer: "Look, I think we've all got something to bring to this conversation, but I think that from now on the thing you should bring is silence."
Homer: "Oh people can come up with statistics to prove anything Kent. Forfty percent of all people know that."
but if they really wanted to stick with the "U" they should have called it Uber or Ultra or "unlikely to be the same as the previous console"

If they would market the hell out of it, then there would be no confusion and it would sell well. Because of the lack of marketing, the sales were weak, and the name without hype power is nothing. They thought 'Nintendo' logo slapped on it would do the job, but obviously it did not.
It didn't stop Wii from selling, so I thought the whole name thing was moot by now.
But that name at least did make it obvious the Wii and Gamecube were separate things despite it sounding silly. Wii U sounded like it could have been an upgraded Wii rather than a next gen console

especially with people thinking WiiU was the "new controller"

The same people probably didn't know or care what a GameCube was, anyway, so that isn't really a factor. I knew alot of people who liked PS2, but didn't care about GCN, then bought a Wii instead of a PS3.
It can go any which way. The Wii name didn't hurt the Wii, and actually had some PS2 people jumping on board. These are the same people who don't give a s*** if their game console looks like a lunch box or something. They just want to play games, and the name doesn't matter as long as it has the games they want.
I don't really buy into that name thing. It may have been like that in the beginning, but now?
And no, "My friend who owns a Wii doesn't know what a Wii U is" doesn't really convince me.
