With the mario kart 8..is it worth getting?

Yes. we have no idea when the next Nintendo Home Console will launch. A lot of people are saying the NX will be a portable system, but we have no idea what is coming. I think the Wii U is still worth it. Mario Kart 8, two Legend of Zelda games this year, and a new Star Fox.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Yep. Ther's a good selection of games for the system, and you've got Starfox, Pokken and Zelda (Twice) coming out this year, so...yeah! Go ahead!

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

Lots of information that has come out in the last week or so points to the NX being a portable or at the very least being a portable first. I wouldn't bet on the Wii U being replaced within the next year. Also there are a few interesting titles coming out for the Wii U over the next year, including Zelda which I'd argue is the interesting title. So it's not like you'd be left with a "dead system" if you jumped in today.

Yes there are so many great things on the Wii U. And if the NX is anything like the Wii U it won't have that much games on launch.

The Wii U I think has a super quality selection in it. Assuming not all of those titles will get an NX remaster, I highly recommend you pick a Wii U up.

With the rumours of a Super Smash Bros port coming to the NX, it's possible that the NX may not actually be backwards compatible (at least at launch) so you may need to get a Wii U in order to play games like Splatoon and Mario Kart 8.

I would wait until they announce backwards compatibility for Wii U games. If you buy a Wii U beforehand and then Nintendo says that the NX can play Wii U games, you'll have wasted $300. Better safe than sorry.

At this point, there is nothing that suggest pure backward compatibility with either Wii U or 3DS. Nintendo has always mentioned NX as something completely different, not a traditional replacement console, etc.

And then there's the rumor from serkantoto about Smash as a launch title (indicating a port of some sort, given the time it takes to develop a Smash game). Smash would be one of the easiest game to port, since it's not dependent of specific UI hardware such as the Gamepad or the 2 screens of the 3DS.

And for games like MK8 and Splatoon, "better safe than sorry by waiting" will not apply. Playing online when people has moved on to newer things is not a definition of any kind of fun.

(It's funny that NX is always mentioned as a replacement to the Wii U on the forums, while 3DS is much older hardware and Nintendo currently has the biggest issues selling good amount of software for the 3DS.)

Yes. You can find a Wii U quite cheap, it has a great library at this point, and we don't know the NX will be backwards compatible.
It definitely won't be backwards compatible with Wii games (officially) and gamecube games (unofficially).

Yes there is a very good first party line up and we have no proof that the next system if it is a console will be BC. Which if Nintendo really wants to take on sony and MS they are going to have to drop physical BC. So they can put an x86 cpu in the box. So I wouldn't miss out on bayo 2, w101, mk8, yoshi ww, pikmin 3 and a host of other games on a gamble...at best. buy your games now and wait until e3 to purchase...I'm certain if Nintendo is going to talk about the new system it will be at e3 this year.

If you're really that interested on the online component it'd be ideal to buy it at or near launch, so they kind of missed the boat on that. So better safe than sorry is still the best approach, until there's confirmation (not just rumors and PR speak, legitimate confirmation) that the NX is not backwards compatible, buying a Wii U at this point is too much of a risk.

Also, the Wii U's library is very overrated, it's mainly rehashes of Wii/DS/3DS games and niche titles. Aside from the aforementioned Splatoon and MK8 there's really not much worth buying a Wii U for. Save your money and wait and see what the NX has to offer.

I'll go against what most people will say and say no. Assuming money is tight and a console purchase is a very very big decision, you should just wait and see what the NX is before making a concrete decision. Plus, the longer you wait, the cheaper the bundles will get, and if you do ultimately decide to get a Wii U even after we know about the NX, it'll be less hard on your wallet.

In another forum OP said he already has the system (got it as a gift with receipt) and is wondering if they should return it for the money back to save for the NX.

Sorry I was just getting mixed info on google. I have a wii u someone gifted me and gave me the receipt and this is the last day to return since its unopened and I was just really curious if the rumours were leaning towards a nintendo nx being released in 2017..because if that was the case i would keep it.
