Topic: Flashdrive question

Recently ran out of space when downloading the 1st MK8 DLC so I had to delete a Hyrule Warriors update to download the DLC. So I just ordered a 32 gb flash drive and I'm wondering if I can use this flash drive just to store updates, and if it will work fine.

When you plug a flash drive into a Wii U it uses as if it was internal storage. You can not only store DLC, and updates to it, but you can install and run full games on it too. I speak from experience because I have a 128 gb flash drive in the back of my Wii U and currently have Super Mario 3D World, Toad Treasure Tracker, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, and more on it and it runs great.

I've heard that it's a good idea to get a good brand. Somebody mentioned the rate of error is fairly low with good drives- forgot if it was 1 in 50000 or 1 in 10000. I use a flash drive, mainly to store my older Indy games that I don't really play much. Honestly, haven't really used it, other than for storage.

USB Flash Drives have a limited Read/Write capacity and if used many times will lock the drive. This is usually around 3-5 years, so if you use your Wii U a lot, download a lot of games and intend to keep your Wii U for a long time, a Y-Cable powered External Hard Drive would be better.

Systems: Wii U, Wii, New 3DS Ambassador Edition, 2DS
Amiibo Collection: Villager, Rosalina, Zelda, Sheik, Toon Link, Link, Marth, Ike, Robin, Lucina, Pit, Shulk, Fox, Yoshi, Toad, Squid Inkling, Meta Knight, Ganondorf (pre-ordered), Yarn Yoshi (pre-ordered)

I'm with Kami2Kami on this one. Instead of a flash drive use a slim external drive(if space is an issue). You can easily get 500GB cheaply. If you must use Flash technology go with a solid state drive. They are more reliable in terms of reads and writes but ultimately suffer the same fate as Flash drives. They will just last you longer if you get a good brand.

Be lucky for a modern cheap slim external drive to last 5 years. (Or desktop more expensive one for that matter).

Hard Drives are also much louder.

The warranty periods on HDD's are so low because they are not reliable.

Yeah essentialy all I am going to use it for is to store old eshop/vc games I no longer play and large game updates (hyrule warriors as an example).

Pretty sure it shows up as USB storage doesn't it.....

Also you have to have the update data on the same memory device (system memory or USB storage) as the digital game. This won't matter for disc based games I don't think.
